Fine. I'll just shut up and not talk about the storm. We have no right at all to make any comments. None. We know nothing about bad weather here and are just whiny babies complaining.

I think something is wrong with my oven. I just tried to make corn muffins and they did not come out well. I'm hoping it's just that the mix is old. Which it is.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #161: Needs More Wub

Are we supposed to know what that means??

The wind picked up all of a sudden and it looks like the snow is coming down even harder. Yeesh. The T is closed all day today as well. Thankfully I still have power. Keep your fingers crossed that remains the case. I do not know how they're going to play the Bruins game tonight. It's already been delayed from 1pm to 7pm. It may be in front of no fans. I hope the team stayed in town.

I think we got a good 2' as of about 8:30 this morning. Hard to tell with the drifting but there is a table in the pool area and there is a mound of snow on it that looks like it's easily 2' high. My car may wind up in that garage till tomorrow at the earliest.

Did you stock up on enough necessities to get you through? In particular toilet paper and milk?

When I lived in Maryland, at the first snow while I lived there I needed some groceries so I went to the store. Thinking it was just a dusting and no big deal I just drove over. First I was amazed at how slow the traffic was going with that tiny bit of snow. Then I was amazed at the lines at the store and the carts piled high with milk and TP - literally no milk left in the coolers. The forecast was seriously for like 2". I know Mass is no Maryland, but I always remember that with any big snowstorm warning.

Not sure what you're inquiring about goldy. I'm going to go food shopping tomorrow. Not a problem.

While you easterners dig out from the snow, I plan to take full advantage of the snow we have here and will hopefully put around 100 miles on the snowmobile today

Dig out from what?? Not sure what you're talking about. There's nothing to discuss here. Wasn't there hockey and drinking last night???

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #161: Needs More Wub

We've easily got 2 feet... maybe more. The drifting is incredible. I went out at 10:00 to attempt to plow. Got my truck stuck plowing down the driveway in a drift easily 4-5 feet deep. She's beached there and I have no idea what I'm going to do come morning. The drift at the back gate was almost to the top of the fence (42"). I literally just stepped over it and trudged out to the driveway. And for the first time in my life I witnessed first-hand what a full white-out is like. I was within 25-30 feet of the house and could NOT see it through the blowing snow.

Needless to say, with my COPD/emphysema I'm not able to deal with the cold air and run out of breath quite easily. That happened while trying to dig out the truck. Barely made it back to the house and my wife was about ready to kill me (but refrained because I couldn't breathe). The rest of the weekend ought to be interesting...

Be safe... hope you get it all cleared out.

While I appreciate that the upper midwest gets its fair share of ice, snow, and cold weather, only in the northeast do you get nor'easters. It's basically a hurricane with show! Until you've witnessed one first hand, you have no idea how powerful they can be. It's not even the snowfall per se, but the drifting can be phenomonal. Nemo brought both.

I don't care what any yooper thinks. 2+ feet of snow in one storm is crippling in a densely populated area.

I get that. What I find silly is a) the media OMGWTeFFBBQ coverage, and b) a travel BAN. Not a recommendation, but an outright ban. Even in the Halloween Storm back in the day, I travelled around the city no problem, and I didn't even have my Jeep. I had a 4-cylinder Corsica. Sure it took more time to get where I was going, but I still got there safe and sound.

For those of you keeping score from home. I could use some positive vibes and a few prayers.

My father was admitted to the hospital yesterday afternoon. I jumped on the first flight to Hilton Head this morning. Things are not good. I am here offering my support and soaking up what time is left. Saying good bye Monday is going to be tough.....................:(
Sorry gmann. Thoughts headed your way! :(

Yep. When people ask why I'm always so happy, I simply reply: Life is great. Enjoy it.
You only get one... make it count!

I left work, it was 4-1 Tech.

I drive home and cook up some ultra mac and cheese and sit down to resume the game...it's 5-4 UAA.

I'm going to destroy Jewel Staite's childhood memories.
Do I need to get the kittens?

Wow.

Good morning.

The 70+ winds blew the actual point of the travel ban away so it's not surprising you missed it.

If someone wants to risk it, go for it. If the state says, "travel at your own risk, we're not saving you," then that's fine, too. But an outright ban is befuddling to me.

Roads in Massachusetts are a lot narrower and more difficult to navigate than streets in the midwest which have the benefit of better city planning. There's more space to move snow around there. Cars getting stuck prevent plows from being able to do their job and clear the streets and would cripple clean up attempts, especially when snow is coming down at a rate of 4" hour. Emergency vehicles can't get through, etc. Coastal communities have flooded and iced over roads. It was the smart thing to do, especially since this storm came Friday afternoon into the weekend. I don't know if he would have been able to enforce the ban if this storm started on, say, a Tuesday night.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #161: Needs More Wub

I was trying to imagine The North End with 20+ inches of snow, must be a nightmare. Now I want a cannoli. :)

Right, but if someone decides to travel, gets in trouble and the state doesn't try to save them...lawsuits upon lawsuits upon lawsuits, so they try to save them (not to mention, it's the right thing to do). There will still be some morons out there that will risk it, but I think a ban will keep more people off the road than simply saying "travel at your own risk"

Morning all. Headed to Owatonna for hockey, rushing back here to ref a Bantam A game, then going to relax and watch hockey tonight.

The people here are idiots... but because they are just that stupid you have to prepare only because of the attendant level of stupidity.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #161: Needs More Wub

weird thing is, the gov had a plan that worked. mookie is the last person to cheer big gov and their ideas, but this worked.

sure, south central canada gets cold, but y'all do not get the quick dumps of snow like we do (2+ feet in less than 15hrs at my place) because y'all don't have an ocean feeding the storm next door.

mookie is only sad that the majority of it fell while he was asleep. :(
