Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #159: Lodge's Attitude Toward Christmas/Holidays

Good luck with the repairs.
The service man just left. The exhaust chamber on the boiler was full of soot... just about plugged solid. He also found not one, but two squirrels roasted well-done at the bottom of the chimney! Told the wife to forget the turkey and ham for tomorrow... ;) All in all, everything turned out well thankfully.

A good reminder to check my CO detector.
I ran out this morning and bought 3 new combination smoke/CO detectors just to be safe. I still can't believe the one we had didn't go off as there was a really strong odor of boiler exhaust throughout the entire house. Luckily nobody is showing any signs of anything (other than being cold).

Lot's of stuff to do today before heading to my mom's for the Christmas Eve feast. All I know is that there's stuffed shrimp, scallops, and lobster tails with my name on them!

So, that's what the people on the right coast who just had their furnace repaired are calling it these days.

I wonder if the two squirrels were doing it before it got too hot there. ;)

Good Afternoon, Lodge!

Heading up to St. Cloud/Foley area in a little bit. Shoot me now.

Adding a protective bubble to my Christmas list before I get off the boat and into the general public.

Supposed to snow 10-15 inches down here in the Missouri boot area tomorrow night into Wednesday. Wheee!

Yikes. All I could think of was those crazy duck people on the history channel learning to make squirrel stew.

No, it's an oil fired boiler. I think it's clogged internally since my wife forgot to have it serviced in the fall. The oil guy called and thinks the same thing. Unfortunately they probably can't get here until after 11:00.

Also discovered our iCO detector apparently doesn't work. I can't believe we didn't have a CO condition with the amount of soot I saw in the basement.
Sounds like a cleaning and a tune up were badly needed, with the price of oil it will probably pay for the cleaning over the season.

I had a squirrel in my wood stove once, it was in my shop, he came out of there like a rocket once I opened the door of the stove:)

Merry Christmas Folks

Definitely. The wife canceled the cleaning in late summer because nobody would be home... then she forgot to reschedule the appointment. Sieve! ;)

The guy said the squirrel didn't cause the problem but certainly didn't help it either. From the condition of the firebox he concluded it started running poorly not too long ago so we were lucky. Of course, better to have it happen today than tomorrow!

Time for some holiday festivities... hopefully I can find some Christmas cheer soon.

Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

I didn't think Blatz was still in business.

Stroh's spelled backwards is Shorts, as in that's where you need to check in the morning after drinking it.

She just was ordered a Blatz.

I told her that's the sound her arse will be making tomorrow after having that "beer."
Hmm. Well this explains a few weekends ago. Buddy bought Blatz and Stroh's on separate occasions. He is from Wisconsin which, might make some sense.

Just got back from church. Prime rib is nearly ready with all the fixings. Merlot is ready to pour. Xmas music is playing in the background. Fireplace is glowing. Kids are chomping at the bit to open gifts.. Life is good.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

Merry Christmas to all. A touch of bourbon ready to sip, as A Christmas Story marathon has begun. :)

*Watching Baseball - the documentary marathon and contemplating a beer or two himself. *

Not as bad as originally thought at the in-laws. Mr. wore Black's grandparents didn't show up so the conversation about death and dying has been avoided.

I have to admit to an infraction. I had forgotten about the Yule Log. :(

So now that's on, too. NOW it's Christmas!

We are watching the Polar Express. Mrs. g is snoozing and the kids are nearly out for the count. Might have to pour something on the rocks and fire up the kids newest gift which is the wii.
