One of my nephews just got sworn into the army today, my youngest brother's (he's 9 years older than me) youngest child. The kid's a bit dim, IQ somewhere in the low 80s, and I worry that about the only thing he'll be good for there is cannon fodder. He's ecstatic and I've just had this giant sense of dread wash over me. I don't know what his MOS will be, but that cannon fodder thought is just looming too large for me right now. Ugh.

Had a very Scarlet-like Tuesday. At least I have Friday off. That's about the only thing keeping me sane right now.

I just learned that he's enlisted to become a cavalry scout. There aren't a lot of jobs in the service more dangerous than that. :(

It must be extremely scary for you and your family, but I think you have plenty to be proud of with that young man.
