Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #152: Next to get married?

job interview sometime in the next two weeks... shirt and tie!!!!

It is out in Reston so I'm hoping they'll pay for a cab... going to be a bit expensive. Will have to see if my shirt fits... more girth than I'd like. Do I need a blazer/sport coat for an interview in the summer? I'd rather not shell out for one... but I will if I need to.

Good luck on the interview! Um, you are well out of college now, so an adult - time to go buy a sport coat as a minimum, if not a suit. And get a new shirt to go with it. And yes, you need one for an interview, even in DC area in summer (don't put it on till the last possible moment, but you need it). You are trying to impress them with, not only your skills, but your maturity and professionalism so you need to look the part.

Unless you are really in demand, I doubt they would even think of offering to spring for your cab fare, I'd never bring it up if I were you.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #152: Next to get married?

Good morning Lodge. In the office early today because I was asked to got to an 8:30 meeting. Who does that??? I got up earlier, came in to get breakfast. The guy where I usually go every Friday did a double take? I said "I know, I know. It's really early AND it's Thursday. Sorry for the confusion!"

Retirement party/dinner tonight for one of the senior folks in my department. So I went for my weekly martini last night instead. Get there, bar is somewhat crowded (as it's after 6pm instead of 5pm when I usually get there). Grab the last two seats for me and my friend who won't get there till 6:45 or so. We usually sit on the corner of the bar but last night? The president and CEO of my company, the head of one of the business units and the CIO were there. Oooookay, then. All of a sudden it was like clowns getting out of a Volkswagon. There was a private dinner in one of the rooms and everyone showed up all at once and hung out at the bar area to drink first. It was so loud and crowded. I texted my friend to make sure she was on her way as I was saving her seat. I hate that. I think if you have a party of that size, there should be a bar in the private room. I felt bad for the people at the tables having dinner. Then, at about 7:15, they all left for their dinner, two other parties at the bar left, and then my company bigwigs left and it was just me and my friend there. Just like that.

Good Morning Lodge.

It was hot yesterday, but the heat didn't bother me. It would be nice if the weather stays good over the weekend, preferably a little less humid than now.

Goldy has hit several nails on the head with this one. I don't know why any guy wouldn't have at least a sport coat...

Are you complaining because an 8:30 meeting is too EARLY?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #152: Next to get married?

Yea, 8:30 AM and "really early" don't go together. Maybe if it was a 6:30 AM meeting.
Exactly. 8am meetings are the norm, and I get about 1 7am per week, and occasional 6am meetings when needed. 8:30 just means I have the option to sleep in, not like I ever take it, since I'm here at 7 every day anyway.

My initial thought was "must be an East coast thing" but then I remembered that when I worked with AKF out of Manhattan, we often had 7 AM (EST) conference calls so maybe it's an insurance business thing.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #152: Next to get married?

Since 6:15 AM this morning I've managed 4 loads of laundry, going to get coffee and a danish, and finishing several tasks for work. I feel productive! :)

Too bad I still have 7 hours to go. :(

Suit. Always wear a suit. You want to be taken seriously, you're going to be asking for a big boy salary, then you'd better look at sound like a big boy.

And I wouldn't bother with the cab fare. Maybe 5-6 years ago, but now...doubtful at best. I certainly wouldn't bring it up in the initial interview(it's like asking "how much will I make" or "what are my benefits" or "when can I go on vacation". Check out the public transport schedules in that area for now.

this.

Morning, Lodge. Last day of vacation for me before I roll along into Mental Health (class 5-9 Monday and Thursday, clinical at the state hospital 2-9 tuesday and wednesday) and start the new job (orientation on July 9 and 10 during the day). Then training and beginning my overnights! Busy few weeks ahead!

Sadly, I believe the humidity will climb again starting tomorrow. Today will be a bit on the warm side (90) but will be far more comfortable than yesterday with the dewpoint dropping into the low 50s by midday / early afternoon. Next week will be downright unbearable with near 100 degree temperatures a possibility by midweek. We're likely looking at a full 1-2 weeks of hot weather here.

Well, it sounds like next week will be a good time to go sit on an intertube in a river, with a cooler full of beer and ice, and broil myself.

Pretty much. No mention of rain in any forecast I've seen beyond the "isolated" mentions. Plus in this type of pattern, the odds strongly favor any rain happening at night due to the strong atmospheric cap in place during the day with all the heat.

Echoing the sentiment of others here, blazer+dress pants / suit = mandatory attire for any job interview. Looking the part is just as important as answering their idiotic questions.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #152: Next to get married?

Jacket & tie at a job interview = no brainer.

Someone in tweetervile just said CNN is asking President Dewey for his opinion on the SCOTUS health care ruling being overturned.
That's some funny stuff right there!

Well, the way I see it is, we get a few weeks of this high heat and humidity every year. There's no good in being mad about it, just suck it up and find something to do that works well with the heat. In fact, the next few weeks would be perfect for a night on the patio at Psycho Suzi's, drinking tropical rum drinks all night long...

edit: And the gf is officially on her way back home!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #152: Next to get married?

Got a reply from my new friend Ufuk in Turkey. This will be fun trying to understand his syntax. I mean it's in English words but figuring out what he means is another thing.

And until that project gets going I'm kinda out of work again.

If you get too bored, I'll pay you to wash and wax my truck. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #152: Next to get married?

Morning Lodge.

Not last winter, but the one before, the goalie for jr's team lived at the top of the worst driveway in Edina (I know, it's the flatlands, but still...). My wife was the one who always had to go get him 'cause our Outback was the only car that could reliably make it up there. The goalie's mom traded her BMW M5 in for an Outback. In addition to the intelligent all-wheel drive, they have more ground clearance than most SUVs and the boxer engine gives them a very low CG (which is important on their hill due to off-camber turns in the drive). I'm sure the boxer makes them a ***** to work on, but they run forever and don't need major work very often.

I've heard you're right about the boxer, but when it goes, it GOES.

Also, yeah, Edina does have some ridiculous short but steep hills. Why the hell anyone thought it would be "cute" to build a city there, I don't know :p

I approve of the Psycho Suzi's idea. My gf has already reserved herself a patio table for when she returns :D

Morning, Lodge.
