Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

I swear... my sister... she's trying to see if she can get into the sports industry... not sure why but she's trying... I tell her of all people trying to get into it... and I get this entire rant on how I assume that's she's stupid and that she already knows this. How the hell do I know what she knows? Considering some of her pie in the sky hopes I never know what to assume with her.

She really does think that I've had it easy and that it is unfair to her. I've suspected she's felt like this for quite awhile. Its not my fault she went into a field where the number of credentialed people is stacked against her. She's good at what she does... I can understand she wants to shoot high and try to figure a way in... she feels that she deserves that cultural niche and I don't blame her.... but christ almighty... why the hell do I bother.

Yes, there's nothing I like more than to trying to explain what I know and then get called an inconsiderate jerk and an incomplete and damaged person... yeah, like I'm supposed to know that she knows what the sports market is like... like I spend that much time around her and gauging her knowledge base. If you think its that tough than why the hell beat me up for what you know is a reach? I put her in contact with somebody I know... maybe I don't do that next time.

edit: Its like this all the time with her. I don't know something she knows I'm a misadjusted moron savant. If I know something she doesn't I'm just a smarty pants *****. If I talk like maybe she doesn't know something she knows about she acts offended that I assumed she was stupid (which I haven't).

edit: its this idea that somehow she deserves better than what I've got... excuse me... which one of us burned ourselves out last year? Not her. I can tell you that.

The only reason I don't throw this back at her is because I don't consider it a valuable part of my time. Sadly, I only engage in the heavy retort at christmas when I feel I have to stake out territory. Which makes mom and dad oh so happy. For the most part, I just try to take it in stride knowing I didn't mean any harm... but ****ing hell.

Hey Scarlet... I know this is a loaded question... but how does one get to be you? I don't know exactly what you do but I imagine it might be where my sister would love to go in life. My impression from here is that you put together events and arrange things in a corporate setting.

She's been looking at executive assistant type stuff (I know she does one job like that now)... corporate services... that kind of angle... she's done some movie casting... she's done some management work at a Boston-area children's museum.

If I didn't think my sister could do a good job at things I wouldn't care. Especially after the crap thrown in my direction. I don't know if there's a magic bullet or a magic angle (not mis-spelled)... I'm sure she could wow somebody... I don't know... she's wearing thin on me... its not her desire... its catching flack from her. We (I and my parents) want to help her but our ideas are limited... I'm in research science and my parents are every day normal people.

Hi, Lodge. It has been a long, stressful, heinous week. I invested in the large bottle of rum. Yup.

You too? I have a homewrecker of Captain, Coca-Cola, and bought a couple limes for tomorrow. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

Good Morning Lodge.

Found out jr lied to us about a school assignment. Not the first time he has done this. He is now officially grounded all weekend. No TV, no internet, stay on our property (after I take him to the library so he has books to read). Can't go across the street to shoot baskets with the other kids in the neighborhood. Mrs. and I will NOT be grounded though so I'll disable the TV and internet when we leave just so he's not tempted. Worst thing was - it was a stupid, unnecessary lie. Had to know he'd get caught and he didn't need to tell it.

Dang, I wanted to go to see The Avengers as a family this weekend. Not sure if the Mrs and I will go without him. May go to a movie he wouldn't want to go to instead.
I feel your pain. go to the movie. If he wants to go after he is off groundation then he has to pay for the 3 of you to go.

Better yet, go to the movie and brag about how good it was when you get home.

There are liquor stores in the cities, which we will have to hit up because FM doesn't have beverages yet. . And, we are going to a bar. A homewrecker is a good starting point.

A decent one about one mile from my place. Hint, hint. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #150: Everyone sucks... except Scarlet

I should be out of Duluth between 10:30 and 11. We're leaving right from his place once I get there... Soooooo... 2ish? I really don't know.

All I needed was an estimate. Awesome.

Hi, Lodge. It has been a long, stressful, heinous week. I invested in the large bottle of rum. Yup.

This. Well, without the rum.

Crap day started late last night. Next door neighbor, really nice older woman, husband is in a wheelchair and is currently in the hospital. Anyway, she had her TV on WICKED loud. It was on past midnight. I've lived here almost 7 years and I've never heard their TV. Went out to the living room to sleep on my couch. Woke up about 2:30 or so, went back to my bed. 5:06am - TV goes on AGAIN. Same volume. I knew she was up so I wanted to go over there and ask if she could turn it down. Then I got all paranoid thinking "Does she hear my TV?" So I basically got about 3 1/2 hours sleep.

Got my grilled corn muffin for breakfast but it was hardly grilled. Got to my desk and my computer wouldn't turn on. Was on the phone with the help desk for over an hour. Got it fixed, more or less. Got a final file of two event documents that HAD to be released to the printer today. Client takes forever to review, then gives to her boss who emailed me she would be reviewing it over lunch. Um, no. Talked to the print production manager and we agreed we were going to release it without approval and if her boss had any edits we would see them at printer proof stage. Plus the designer was leaving about 2:30 today. Went down to her desk to tell her this and got a "But she's been out all week and wants to review! And lunch is only a half hour from now" crap. Told her we had to do this or she wouldn't get her proof on Tuesday and get her pieces by next Friday and the designer needs to release as she's leaving at 2:30 and she has the gall to say to me "That's not my fault." I was like "No. What your fault is was that you ****ing sat on this for 5 days and didn't review, plus you were three ****ing weeks late giving us the content to start with." On the inside. And I like this girl. Can you imagine if I hated her?

The day did end on a very high note when we got approval from the performer for the 4th of July for her bio the program. CBS is announcing who it is next week I believe. Got lightning fast reviews and only minor edits and an approval at the end of the day. That was the one approval I thought would take the longest. I want to introduce her people to the folks in the business unit I was working with today.

You might win this round.
No, as much as the GM here and I may butt heads, when he's not around it blows because suddenly I'm the one that gets to deal with EVERYTHING. This now includes the trail race series (and a spontaneous remapping of the course because someone took down our markings), covering a training group run, and handling orders. Add in the 259826384638743947 cases of merchandise that came in (that I guess I'm the only one that can take care of) and an employee up and taking his name off the schedule... Good glory hallelujah, pass the rum.

Oh, I had one tonight. :) It was a good one. It was actually called Effing Good Martini. Had a watermelon liqueur and gingerale in it. Yummy!

Hm, that sounds interesting. Made well, it could be awesome, which knowing your taste it must have been.

I'm just working the classic Captain and Coke. Good stuff.

I am currently drinking a Gatorade. I am crazy. :D

Good hockey game tonight. I am rooting for the Devils. I have never been a fan of NJ but I want them to win the cup. If so, #9 will be wearing a Wild jersey next year.
