Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 146: Playoff Hockey Activities

The company has a travel agency/division where they'll usually book the flights for those of us who need it. It isn't part of a compensation package directly, more of just an 'accepted benefit' for those who live far away. It's generally done by most shipping companies for the most part.

If they didn't cover the flight, I would get a straight $200 travel stipend, but that rarely covers a one way ticket for me anyways, let alone mileage to/from the airport up north. Since they cover the flight, I'll get the mileage reimbursement. Pretty solid deal.
All of mine just gets charged to the corporate card and expensed away.

Rack up them airline miles bbdl! Cripes, you might as well say you work part time for Delta too ;)

Would they give you more if you flew from the closer airport, Ottawa? ;)

Nope, and I really have no interest flying to Ottawa or Montreal, having to deal with customs can be more of a PITA than the hour or so that it saves me driving.

I was looking at Montreal for this trip home if I had to book it myself, since it was half price of any other reasonable airport for me to fly to, but I generally would rather not deal with international flights since I can't guarantee getting to the airport early enough, especially getting off the boat. Canada doesn't do pre-clearance for flights there, as far as I know, but I still didn't want to risk it.

Granted if I were still living up there, I'd probably fly out of Montreal for international flights. Now I'd consider going out of Toronto for international, I believe it's slightly closer than NYC. Either that or Ottawa (which I think is even closer, but probably not as big).

Holy crap. I just reached back to 10th grade chemistry and pulled "endothermic reaction" out of the cobwebs in my head to explain something to a coworker.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 146: Playoff Hockey Activities

Their first question will probably be "when can you start?"...

Wasn't the FIRST question but ....

Not quite to that point but when they explain the benefits package at the first interview, I'm guessing I have a good chance at an offer. Biggest problem - it's on the other side of town for me. Google says 16.5 miles, 24 minutes. That would have to be early or late to avoid rush hour.

That's understandable since it's business related but hp1015 is essentially talking about travel to and from work. That's why I was asking and I can certainly understand why they do it in his industry.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 146: Playoff Hockey Activities

'Morning, kids. I'm officially going to my first midnight opening showing tonight. I'm setting the over/under at "teenage girls 'Diva chews out" at 5.

OVER!!!!

If I'm home any later than 5:30 tomorrow someone is getting a shovel, and not as a gift.

Oh ya, if I was flying international, no contest, Montreal would be the airport of choice. Ottawa is considerably smaller, but it's not a bad airport to get in and out of.

Details for Sat:

Tailgate: starts at 9am. (I wouldn't mind showing up at 7:30 or so to get breakfast at the Liffey or something).

Um, yeah, that's about it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 146: Playoff Hockey Activities

OK, so my flight lands at 10:40, providing we take off on time. I figure by the time I deplane and get a cab and get to the hotel it will be close to noon. How many folks at the tailgate are planning to go to the first game? I'd like to stop by and say hello if people are there. I do want to see part of the first game if I can.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 146: Playoff Hockey Activities

My tickets are in sec....Green Bay. Pretty sure it won't be packed and I can sit where I want. Leaving for the Chicago area tomorrow night. Is it sad that one of the things I'm looking forward to in WI in Spotted Cow?
Not really...

Oh, what part of Maryland do people have a pretty thick accent?? Had a client who's recently moved into the area and she's really hunting to find somebody who can do deep work just like her MT back home. Just kind of hard to understand her a bit.
I'd offer to meet up with you, but NMUKat and I are a bit further West then you're likely planning on being for your trip to Green Bay.

That's great to hear!

I have a good lead on one job (did the interview last week), but they're interviewing one other person this Friday. They'll make a decision between the two of us then next week. Other than that, my phone's been silent. :(
Been going through some stuff here today, mostly to get my taxes organized, and I came across your wedding invites that I didn't get to go to. :(

So if I showed up tomorrow at 4:56 with a shoebox full of receipts, I would be getting a shovel then??
:D

I'm unsure about the first game, but I'd bet some people would be at the tailgate lot. You can text/call me when you land, and I can let you know the situation.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 146: Playoff Hockey Activities

Pffft, Les, I'm not concerned about the TSA robocops. Just gotta make sure I give myself more time than usual before departures just in case. Usually I breeze through, only been secondary inspected once before, also during a string of weird travel.
You obviously haven't seen the ongoing rants in what ever thread it is about the TSA I don't have a worry about them but there is a poster that gets in a lather on a regular basis...:p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 146: Playoff Hockey Activities

Brent, I'm planning on being in the lot, in my chair with an Old Ore Dock in my hand at 8am sharp. I'll bring eggs to eat also, for breakfast.

Scarlet, I'm planning on going to both games, but since its one ticket, I might wait until half way through the first to head to the game. You should definitely come to the tailgate.

I'll be there. I can bring bacon.
