Gas just hit $4.09 here. My Jeep just pitched a tent in the park and got pepper sprayed in the face.

Twitch Boy Cannot Have Nice Things.
Are you saying that you didn't see this coming when you decided to toss big old mudders on that thing? I'm pretty sure everyone else did.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 145: are you giving up something for lent??

No, but then again, I've learned from this crowd that anything can be twisted and considered sexual in nature.

I asked a question that a recruiter suggested once and I've been using ever since. "Do you have any concerns that I may not be the ideal canidate for this position?" I like this question because often it gives me a chance to correct a misconception and it also helps me understand what others may believe my shortcomings are.

The CEO of [company] North America said "that's a very good question" and then began looking uneasy and finally said something about youth and experience. Perhaps it's because he said "you're very young" and then realised he's not allowed to discriminate based on age. Here I thought age discrimination was for older people.

I deal with this at work all the time... mostly its senority push and pull. The thing is that my face looks like I'm 25-26... I'm 30... so you've got this "kid" doing something beyond what most of these guys can muster... I don't get the respect I deserve... I know this because I've often been kept out of the loop and out of the know.... which in turn means I have no real incentive to "up my game" so to speak or care. To me, respect is quid pro quo... give and get. Its quite annoying to expect the world of me yet still play the "he's a kid" game.

It annoys me that I can do something incredibly advanced, on short time, and with national implications but still treated with a lesser degree of consideration. I am basically an advanced scientific consultant within my agency yet they refuse to treat me like an adult. Nothing like being held out of the loop on serious matters. You can't expect somebody to keep going full at things without affording some conference of respect. Why should I go through another wall if you don't trust me? Why should I try if I don't think I'm valued?

Granted, I have my immaturities and at this point its very hard to hide my frustration... but I've NEVER taken well to being walked over. Point still remains... why should I up my game if it doesn't do me any good? And make no mistake... i know what I can do and how I behave when I think people actually trust and have confidence in me. If one wants me to be everything I can be then show me that you believe that I can do it.

edit: Of course, it doesn't help that most of the "young" people at work are mostly low level support staff of various means so I'm sure that feeds that particular image.

Went with all-terrain 265/75s (for comparison, the Rubicon usually comes with 255s.) Good size for what I need. Can't go much bigger without a lift, and going much bigger would start to affect my snow performance anyway. Just needed to lose those silly 225s - they looked like they came off a VW Bug. And mudders aren't very good on ice.

And I don't drive much, so it doesn't kill me. If I leave Anchorage and go a significant distance up the highway, it's usually in someone else's vehicle. Still sucks.

Snowing here at the moment, but I got some grub at the store for the next few days, including bacon (I use it in my meatloaf).

Still feeling like crap; going on day 10. Have resolved to spend today in bed with the heated blanket and space heater. I have insurance again as of tomorrow, so for now it's heat, healthy food, and sleep. My professor kicked me out of her office today after reviewing my test because she said I looked like crap.

Ah, I thought you bought the 32.5x11.5 tires, not the 265 set. And I always laugh when I see people who put mudders on their trucks here in MN during the winter. They have some really bad driving days most years around here, but they just look so tough.

Actually those measurements are pretty close in size. The JKs (2007 on) can take a pretty big tire without a lift.

My mileage fluctuates wildly with temperature as well. I pull about 11 at holy-crap-it's-cold temperatures, 13 at 32 degrees, 15-16 in the summer, 17-18 if I go on the highway. Sticker said 15/19, so eh.

All I know is those 225 all-seasons had to go. No way in hell would I trust those on ice.

Yeah, I'll ***** about gas, but it really isn't that bad for me. If it was going to be, I wouldn't have bought it. I've had it almost two years and I'm just now coming up on 10K miles.

Mudders are just really impractical for anything other than off-road driving, if you're talking about pure mud tires like TSL's. But if you're looking in the more All-terrain/mud-terrain category where the tires are meant to be more hybrid, you can get a tire that is decent off-road, but is still decent on road. It's a give/take.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 145: are you giving up something for lent??

Work is driving me insane. Some of the BS I'm starting to deal with now that I'm getting more involved in certain areas is enough to make my head asplode.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 145: are you giving up something for lent??

The new fancy discrimination tool is "how long have you been out of work," with companies shying away from the long (6+ months) unemployed and preferring people who are 3 months or less out of work. Reportedly, they'd ideally like people who are still employed and just switching companies.

There is quite a bit of recent turnover at my company because of this. I think the Big 3 and Quicken Loans have been scooping up a lot of young people with a few years' experience from mid-size employers.

My company is hiring so many college new hires, and so many new hires period, that corporate has said that within 3 years 75% of the workforce will have less than 5 years experience.

So, shoveling that was a hell of a workout. Especially when I worked out just beforehand.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 145: are you giving up something for lent??

Hi Lodge. Expecting snow here after 3:00pm into tomorrow. I wore my snow boots (which I bought in Noember and wore for the first time last weekend up in Vermont), brought a hat and my umbrella. So it's safe to say we probably won't see a flake or a drop. :)

Well, another example of Opposite Girl. Snow has begun...three hours early.
We started at 12. Nothing on the hardtop but the gras and trees have at least a few inches.

Good evening Lodge.

Regarding little gII.......I thought for sure today he would have been a little sore and grumpy and slow moving. Not! He didn't skip a beat. I am impressed. I am beginning to think that the hospital put him under and forgot to do the procedure. :)

In fact, I think it is an evil ploy orchestrated by the WPF. (World Popsicle Federation)

I told you. That age they don't skip a beat. It only is horrible after you get older. Then people want to die for a week.

You were spot on.

I thought there would be some stuff to deal with. Nothing. Anyone want a jug full of narcotics? ;)

Edit. I am off all week and I took a couple days next week to care for him...........

Alas, the Kyle Rau thread has ended. It's for the best. I'd rather it close before it became very tired. But still, *sniff*.
