Weather is crappy here in Cake Eater Land. Pure sleet for about the last two hours. Gonna be a fun time for anyone going out tonight.

Started snowing here about 6:30 and it's coming down hard and the wind is blowing. School has already been cancelled for tomorrow.

I am off of work through next Tuesday to take care of little gII. (at work we accrue a "special" kind of PTO. It can only be used for medical after missing 3 days of work. Can be used to care for me, spouse, children, parents and even inlaws. I get 80 hours per year and it keeps building up year after year.

At 9:00 I am going out to clear the drive way and I am going to light up a Cuban as it has been a few months since I have fired up a cigar. .

My thoughts are with you guys until things are resolved.

In fantastic news, I left my phone on the roof of my car today - something I haven't done in the 11 years I've been driving. I never put anything on my roof, but the repair guys said they left a flashlight in the car, so I put the phone and a get-well card on the roof while I looked for the flashlight. Frustrated, I didn't see it, so I hopped in the car and took off for the gym. Finished at the gym and went to check my email on my phone and realized... F*, it was on the roof when I left and is now...somewhere on the road. I did manage to find the get-well card on the side of the road. I wouldn't be so upset as the timing works out well (was planning on upgrading on Friday when I get paid), but my grandmother had back surgery on Friday and suffered a stroke on Saturday and is still unstable - so not having a phone...kind of a big deal.
:(

When I grow up I want to be a meteorologist. Wake up, go to work, close my eyes and throw a dart and watch the public scramble.

Edit. For those of you keeping score from home.......we are back home. Not one whimper out of little gII (yet). What a trooper!
Way to go gII!

****storm 2012 has not yet commenced here at the Hammer Palatial Estates.
hasn't started here at the Shirtless Manor, either.

Evening, Lodge.

Related: I booked a room, but it's currently full. Also, check with BPH as I know he was thinking about it. There probably will be spare spots in other rooms, if you check in with that event and ask. There are currently 14 rooms marked for the "Gopher Hockey Fans" rate at the famed Travelodge. :D I know a few are full already.

And for anyone else out there who wants.....an experience, come on out to Houghton! I know we'll have a rather large contingent of MN fans and Twin Citian MTU fans making the trip!

Yes. Popsicles and smoothies also. He is still doped up and will be for a while but you would never guess he had anything done. We will see what tomorrow brings.
Kids this age fly thru. Sometimes they puke first time they eat but otherwise they look great. Adults on the other hand are miserable and want to die. :p Glad things went OK

Just got back from my brother's house. Met with his accountant to do my taxes. Yay for a nice fat refund!

Chicken and biscuits are done. Lunch for the rest of the week is now set. I would have loved to have done it yesterday, but a migraine kinda forced me to make an adjustment.

Still no sign of ****storm 2012.

Just got done blowing the drive way. It's nasty out there.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 145: are you giving up something for lent??

UMD called off classes tomorrow. In other news, not a damm flake has fallen since 11am.

Wimps. Only once when I was there when classes were cancelled: when the state closed down due to temps (-60).

Tech only shutdown once during my run, and it was a legit 30" storm. Of course, the old-timers will tell stories about how class was never cancelled, and there were exits on the second floors of buildings to cope with the snow pack. I call BS.

Must have been 1996.

To add specificity/details to this claim:
- Tower MN dropped to -60F on February 2nd, 1996, and that is MN's all-time coldest recorded temperature; Duluth bottomed out at -39F that morning and only recovered to -21F later that day for a "high".

Winters simply haven't been that cold since the oughts began.
