Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 145: are you giving up something for lent??

This people isn't going to spend one minute watching a bunch of people drive fuel guzzling cars in a circle while other people act like something exciting is happening and yell wildly into a microphone about it. Even the ads are boring (at least the Stupid Bowl has good ads).

Don't like Vagasil ads, eh? ;) Neither do I, but there's one other thing I find annoying, and is probably why I will remain in this part of the country for a very long time.

Good afternoon, Lodge. Still on that high over this past weekend.

I just realized that I must be in a small minority of sports fans that is switching between NASCAR 's Daytona 500 and the PGA's Accenture Matchplay Championship match. I don't imagine that the PGA and NASCAR have many crossover fans. :p

Gmann - all signs are pointing to a big chunk of the state getting slammed starting sometime Tuesday. Current indications are that points south of the twin cities will get rain / sleet / mix of rain&snow (at least initially), while the twin cities and points north will see all snow. The axis of heaviest snow will be through central MN. Of course, being that this is two days out, things are subject to change. What's a given is the storm will dump a lot of moisture on the area (forecast models are projecting 1-2" of liquid for the bulk of the area), and that the temperatures will stay on the mild side (there won't be any arctic outbreak following the storm's passage).

The chief weather terrorist has taken your forecast and added a schtickle of fear.

We're not going to watch any racing today. Postponed until noon tomorrow.

I couldn't help but notice while flipping through the channel guide that there is seven (7!) hours of Oscar pre-show.

Cripes.

Well, this has been a disappointing day of sitting around home watching TV. I was looking forward to the race. Oh well, at least the house smells yummy, my roast is going on hour number 5 in the crock pot. :)

edit: Awww, crap. I'm far enough north that I'm going to be right in the heaviest snow band in this impending snowpocalypse. Up to 20". Well, **** you mother nature, if you think I'm plowing this ****, you're mistaken. I have 4 wheel drive and it will be melting in a week.

The inlaws will be watching little g the day little gII has his procedure. They just called and mentioned they are excited if a nasty blizzard does come through as they are packing an extra big bag just in case. I am going to beg the doc to give me something to make the world a very happy place. :)

My crock pot of roast has been turned into a huge crock of beef stew, with potatos, carrots, onions, peppers, a 12 oz. Smithwicks, tomatoes, and a whole bunch of spices, all added at various points during the cooking process. I just finished breaking down the roast so it is in stew sized pieces, so it should be ready in about another hour. I'll have plenty of food for the impending snowpocalypse!

The Rau thread is hilarious. The line of posting started in the GopherPuckLive chat last night during the game, and thank Parise someone started it here. :D

For Lent I did my usual: I gave up self-denial.
Nice!
Total abstinence is so excellent a thing that it cannot be carried to too great an extent. In my passion for it I even carry it so far as to totally abstain from total abstinence itself.
