Got lots of nice things- a new LL Bean long coat from Mr. A gift card to my favorite garden place from lil. My favorite thing was the giving. Lil liked everything he got which was awesome as he never knows what he wants and isn't a thing kid. The best thing I got him was a sheepskin pillow
Nice time with everyone- all 3 family meals we did. Went to church 3 times- Catholic Mass 2ce (goldy- is only the Spirit supposed to have peace? what about the rest of the person- does astheticism live?!!) The second Mass I was ready for all the changes, but near disgraced myself trying not to giggle the whole time (I know, I should be a grown up). They held up 'the card' and waved it around everytime they had changed the words. The old people just belted out the old words loudly. I had a horrible case of the giggles after first imagining the old cartoons and the bouncing pingpong ball over the words and then having Lil say they forgot 'Lil's name' even tho he has a book in the Bible (insert further rants) when they now list the 50 obscure Saints, sort of saints and who ever else is in the list. This right before my Fa-in-Law rolls his eyes at me when they hit the consubstantiation word (he had made a comment before Mass about changing to consubstantiation being stupid). I would probably have felt a little more guilty about my irreverence but the kids behind us were playing games on their phone the whole time, kids were screaming and people were talking thru the whole thing. It was like being in a busy cafeteria.
The 3rd Church service was 'real' (lil) Lutheran service. THis is a very small place that I have been going to since I was a kid. I think after the 1st 2 services that I am ready for some comforting, traditional stuff. Nope. There is an influx of Chinese families into the family. The Church sponsors the ESL classes in the neighborhood. Lessons/Gospel were in English and then Chinese. I now have great respect for anyone who can learn that language! It was very cool but not traditional. I think I am an old fuddy duddy officially.
