Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 142: On the 1000th Post of the Last Thread

Other than the Chive shirt, I got nothing, and loved it. Well, not entirely true. Got to spend time with my nieces, watched some Breaking Bad with the parents (who are now hooked), and had some quality time with the family. Best gifts of all.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 142: On the 1000th Post of the Last Thread

I should clarify that I wasn't looking for any gifts, nor would I have felt particularly good about receiving any without anything to give in exchange. I'm just irritated with my childish brat niece who will be 21 years old in a few days and acts like she's going on 15. Apparently we're all bad relatives for not getting her birthday gifts and taking the effort to send her birthday greetings these past few years. She's not cognizant of the fact that people perhaps don't spend time on such things due to actions she takes, her treatment of others. /rant

Got 150 in cash from the parents, destory all humans: path of the Furon for the PS3 from my younger brother who packed it in a bigger box with a bunch of his smelly socks, an electric razor from the girlfriend and her friend gave the both of us matching his and her watches that he had gotten as an comp from Greektown Casino he said.

Good evening Lodge.

Christmas has been great but I am ready for the holidays to be over.

I didn't get much for Christmas and that is ok. The g family does not get caught up in the commercial hype. Pretty basic and that is by design.

Biggest news of the day is that I think little gII figured out how to use the potty. Adios diapers.............
These two things in a post do not compute!

HAPPY BOXING DAY! HAPPY HANUKKA!! (still) moanin' monday!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 142: On the 1000th Post of the Last Thread

Got lots of nice things- a new LL Bean long coat from Mr. A gift card to my favorite garden place from lil. My favorite thing was the giving. Lil liked everything he got which was awesome as he never knows what he wants and isn't a thing kid. The best thing I got him was a sheepskin pillow :)

Nice time with everyone- all 3 family meals we did. Went to church 3 times- Catholic Mass 2ce (goldy- is only the Spirit supposed to have peace? what about the rest of the person- does astheticism live?!!) The second Mass I was ready for all the changes, but near disgraced myself trying not to giggle the whole time (I know, I should be a grown up). They held up 'the card' and waved it around everytime they had changed the words. The old people just belted out the old words loudly. I had a horrible case of the giggles after first imagining the old cartoons and the bouncing pingpong ball over the words and then having Lil say they forgot 'Lil's name' even tho he has a book in the Bible (insert further rants) when they now list the 50 obscure Saints, sort of saints and who ever else is in the list. This right before my Fa-in-Law rolls his eyes at me when they hit the consubstantiation word (he had made a comment before Mass about changing to consubstantiation being stupid). I would probably have felt a little more guilty about my irreverence but the kids behind us were playing games on their phone the whole time, kids were screaming and people were talking thru the whole thing. It was like being in a busy cafeteria.

The 3rd Church service was 'real' (lil) Lutheran service. THis is a very small place that I have been going to since I was a kid. I think after the 1st 2 services that I am ready for some comforting, traditional stuff. Nope. There is an influx of Chinese families into the family. The Church sponsors the ESL classes in the neighborhood. Lessons/Gospel were in English and then Chinese. I now have great respect for anyone who can learn that language! It was very cool but not traditional. I think I am an old fuddy duddy officially.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 142: On the 1000th Post of the Last Thread

les, I just remarked on the "and with your spirit" because everyone messes that one up at the church we attend. At least for Christmas they put everything into one multi-page worship aid, including the hymns, no need to bounce between two cards and hymnals like most services. Boy was that a stupid way to do it, having two cards. My wife and jr both served for "midnight" mass at 10 PM. Wife is coordinator of Eucharist ministers and jr is coordinator/trainer of alter servers. I, being Lutheran, stay kneeling during Eucharist. ;)

In other news, I hate this weather! I want snow and cold - it's December in Minnesota! Jr. has an outdoor practice scheduled for tomorrow night and I doubt the rinks will be open after the upper 40s forecast for today. This week is a great time for the kids to get out and play pond hockey for hours on the rinks and the ice sucks. May have to get a bunch over here since it's better on the pond than on the city rinks. May spend the day making another light stand and setting up extension cords for lighting. Would love to get jr out to the ski slopes too, but don't want to pay for skiing on slush.

We just had a conversation regarding the Spirit thing on the way home and Lil asked what happened to the not Spirit part of you so it made me laugh when you posted it. At least they don't wave a card wildly on the altar even if you have 2 cards. I am sure that the next time we go it will be a bit better. Then there will only be the people that actually are there to celebrate the Mass, not all the CEWF people.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 142: On the 1000th Post of the Last Thread

There was a bit of a "we don't have to if you don't tell anyone and if you tell the bishop I'll deny everything" at church Saturday night... They did it mostly to script but acceeding to the choir on one part.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 142: On the 1000th Post of the Last Thread

Happy Chanuramakwanzmas, everyone! :)

Been busy lately.
I work, then I work some more.

HN came into town Saturday afternoon. We hosted three friends of ours who were alone Christmas Eve. (We're staying at a Residence Inn for a few days.) One's mother decided to go to Florida; the mother was also away for Thanksgiving, too. One is divorced and I'm guessing his girls were with the ex. The other is in the process of divorce and her husband had the kids at his folks'. Her mother is being particularly nasty to her during this time. We were blessed to have them share their time with us.

Yesterday, we went over to my mom's place. Had dinner and exchanged gifts. And watched "Firefly". :)

Hopefully, Santa has one more gift in the bag. We'll have to wait and see...

I got blasmed for Christmas, and it worked perfectly. I barely remember the hell that is Christmas.
