Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 134: Huh?

I was forced to...I was on the advanced track throughout high school, and I needed 4 years of different disciplines. By the time I got to be a senior, the AP classes were all that were left. AP Lit/Comp was the worst class I've ever taken, what a complete piece of BS that was. The only think it did for me was make me that much better of a BSer. I didn't read a single **** book, they were all terrible, and managed to get a B.

That class wasn't horrible for me, just repetitive to a fault. The real *headdesk* moment was a year later, when I was in one of my pre-req English classes, and it was basically all the same material and assignments over again. On the plus side, it meant I could take the approach you did, bb_dl, and I got an A.

But you'd taken the class before! That is cheating! :p

And at this point it is obvious to me that I didn't miss anything by not putting effort into those classes in high school. Maybe it was just my school and my teachers, but they were a complete joke. Seriously, I had some composition class my junior year of high school, where we were supposed to learn the "correct way" to write, including outlines, writing a first draft, revising the document, final draft, etc. I was busy working, it was fall, I had to work on the farm, and I didn't do anything for a paper that I was supposed to submit the next day. I wrote 5 pages about duct tape, didn't have a 1st draft, didn't proofread...basically did the bare minimum. The teacher said it was the best paper she'd ever read by a student, gave me a perfect score and told me that it was first time she'd handed back a paper with no corrections. It was at that point that I knew with confidence that the whole thing was a complete sham. I didn't care about those english/writing/literature classes before, but after that it was complete indifference. I knew that I would just focus on the stuff that matters, math and science.

AP US History was the best. Instructor knew what he was doing, and could predict the DQB every year, to within 75% accuracy. Towards the end of the semester, he just devoted entire class periods to training for the writing sections. I wound up with a 4, and the desire to take AP Macroeconomics with him the following year, which I 5'd. That got me out of Institutions at MTU, and from what I understand, that's a very good thing.

For me, at Tech, Institutions was the most enjoyable of those 4 ****ty classes (Perspectives, World Cultures, Institutions, Revisions). My Institutions professor was awesome, and he made the class enjoyable, the rest were pure hell.

Greetings from Vivo.

grrrrrr..... my usual hot stone customer just cancled on me today. Its going to be long and boring here today.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 134: Huh?

Its even more boring when you're not doing anything.

I always tell people who complain about having nothing to do because it will change and when you have too much to do, you will look back at this time and go...."Remember when....I wish I could go back to those days!!" :)

That time for me was yesterday, when I ended up staying an hour late to finish up 2 projects.

I've read what you write. It shows. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 134: Huh?

I think I took 8 total AP exams:
Micro, Macro, Psych, Gov't and Politics, US History, Western European, Calc AB, and Calc BC.

I think that I was the first person from my HS to be named a National AP Scholar

Sadly, as a result of poor schedule planning, only the calc and econ tests actually helped me get out of taking classes in college.

Even though the calendar says it's Spring here in Denver--and throughout the state--it's still the height of ski season for young legs willing to do a little work on some of the major passes in Colorado. I know I posted many times during the Winter about the historically good snowfall most of Colorado was receiving. The chart included in the linked story proves just how much snow areas of the state received this past ski season and most of that snow is still available to ski.

I had the same experience in a junior year comp class. In fact, the teacher made me simplify my writing style for the last paper in that class to improve the readability so the dumb**** audience could understand it. :p

The only writing I've had to do for my job is procedural - and of course, that style wasn't covered in any high school writing class (it also wasn't covered in any composition class in college - not until I took a management class in my final year did I gain exposure to it).

The good thing about Massage is that you can only work on one body at a time. ;)

Afternoon lodge. Driving down to Syracuse this afternoon at some point in time to check into the hotel and then find a bar for Wings/Sharks. No Mule for us, no Clowe for them... I'll call it a wash. Flying to Houston tomorrow morning through Chitown until Friday afternoon. Probably won't be posting much, as I don't plan on bringing my laptop and will only have droid with me. Bring on 90 and humidity!
