Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #131: Spring is here!

Funny story- Lil's school's hockey team (he isn't on it) is in the play offs. The coach usually plays 2 forward lines and 2 D lines. The rest sit on the bench and only get on the ice to warm up and leave at the end of the game. He frequently promises the scrubs they will play and then never lets them. They were supposed to be able to beat the other team this week by a wide margin so once again he tells them they will get ice time. The other team is way better than the beginning of the season and of course the 2 lines are exhausted so they aren't producing the big score they should. No one gets off the bench. One of the sisters made a huge sign complete with blinking lights that says "GO BENCHWARMERS!!" She had it going the whole game :D

That's sad. Why are the bench players even on the team if they aren't used? Is the coach forced to take them simply to have a full roster?

There are actually good players. No one knows why he does this. Even if one of the kids gets hurt he still won't play the others. One game he skated 3 D for the last 2 periods because someone got hurt. I expect he has them there in case 2-3 players are incapacitated.

Evening, Lodge. Gotta wait to register for classes because Northern still hasn't sent my transcript to Baker. Oh well; I still plan on changing my major to culinary arts. :)
YAY! :) (on the changing major)

Morning, Lodge! Checking in. Busy weeks ahead and behind. Class is ramping up (had M, T, W last week, have M, W, S, and Sun, this week) and am taking the National Nursing Pre-Admissions Exam on Friday (this week). Working extra hours to make up for taking Friday off. :( Did find out that I think I got into Penn State for nursing though (not Main Campus, but the one near my parents), so I have an option! :D

a lot of coaches only rotate two lines. Those that do tend to fail when the games get tougher. Most MN high school coaches who use a two line system, when they get to state, don't win. Hell, Jack Parker was using 2 lines in the third period in the 2009 National Championship, and had Miami been able to clear a puck out of the zone, it would have failed for them too.

So SB is going to a school called Baker for culinary arts? Whoda thunk? ;)

Need to have someone for practice drills...

Bad enough at high school, but we played a team the other day at peewee B2 (think 3rd level, A, B1, B2) who double shifted their top line all game. Bet the third line never played in the third period - they still lost the game.

Watched the game before ours last night at District playoffs. Thought someone would get hurt or ejected for sure. The other Edina team who finished 1st was playing the bottom seed, 12th, Bloomington Kennedy. Kennedy has some huge kids, one is literally 6-1, 180 - at 12 . They were losing and decided to take out some of the Edina kids. Refs were too dense to pick-up on it, or didn't care. Fortunately one of the two refs finally decided he couldn't take any more and started to call some of the crap so Edina White pulled away on some power-play goals and it cooled down a little. One of the Kennedy moms got kicked out of the parent section and was by the end boards near me, urging her little "Dutch" to "take him out." Edina White has a couple hot-heads and I thought for sure there'd be gloves dropped.

We got the same two refs and the same guy who would not call really blatant head-hunting by Kennedy would absolutely not call anything on our opponent either. The opponent kept slashing our goalie after the puck was covered and he finally retaliated - our goalie got the penalty and the kid who slashed him got nothing. Finally, half-way through the game the other ref figured out it was going to get ugly if he didn't start to call some stuff.

Fun night, but we came out with the win at least - and goldy jr. got the GWG. Ugly grinding rebound goal - same as all his goals. ;) Third leading scorer on the team and none of his goals have been from more than 6' from the net or on a rush, all tips and rebounds.

Congrats to jr! Remember: There are no ugly goals.

Call him the garbage man! Congrats!

the dumb thing is, these teams have enough for 3 lines. I mean, the 3rd line in high school isn't going to be the star of the team, but they can hold their own out there. Yet coaches are so stubborn. Why?

Final Five forcast is looking good at the moment.

17th - 51/28 (morning rain)
18th - 49/33
19th - 41/21

Hell, if you have em, you might as well use them. If nothing more than to give your top line just that more of a breather every third shift cycle or so.

The refs are in training for the ECAC, I see. :D

I don't know and we were wondering the same thing watching that game last week. Eden Prairie rolled 3 lines, Wayzata rarely used their third, as far as I could tell, either that or they just constantly doubleshifted the Lucia-Cameranesi-Klein line.

Good afternoon, Lodge! :)

Bought groceries, washed dishes, and the cat is taken care of... what else to do?
