Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #131: Spring is here!

I apologize because I post about little g quite often and I do not want to create the perception that I am trying to start a pity party.
I'd like to think we're all friends here (even if only virtually). I know it helps to sometimes talk about things and I'm sure everyone here truly enjoys reading about little g's trials and tribulations.

Little g will be ok. However, there are others who have things way worse than little g. It does not make his/our life any easier but it does put things into perspective at times.
We ALL need that perspective from time to time.

The only thing you need to apologize for is that darn S&SS! :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #131: Spring is here!

Little g has cerebral palsy, he has hypotonia or low muscle tone or weak/limp muscle tone. He is weak. All the typical milestones a baby or toddler should hit took a considerable amount of time longer for little g to do. (holding his head up, sitting, crawling, walking) All of his muscles are weak. Talking is even a struggle for him.

Little g will more than likely never be able to perform physical activities to the extent or level of what his peers will be able to do (piano, baseball, violin, soccer, writing/drawing, hockey etc). With that being stated, little g has been and will continue to be involved in as many things as his attitude will allow him to be.

Cerebral palsy is physical. Individuals with CP can still function at a high level cognitively. However, little g did not have a pulse or hearbeat for at least 25 minutes before/during/after delivery. In addition to the physical issues we also have to be aware of other issues that loss of oxygen can cause (brain damage) as it relates to cognitive ability.

To this point in time everything regarding little g has been a guessing game. Will he walk? Will he talk? Will he be able to read? Will he be able to write? Will he be able to skate? Will he be able to play catch? Will he be able to play a musical instrument? Will he be able to hold a crayon and write his name or a shape? Will he be able to go to school and learn just like his his peers? Will he be able to go to college? Will he be able to function independently in society? To date we have some answers to these questions but unfortunately there are still more questions than answers.

Not sure if I have ever posted this but I will never forget a couple things the doctors told me. First, after Mrs. g was whisked away from the delivery room I was brought to a waiting room. I really had no clue what was going on. I knew things were not going as planned but I had no idea just how critical it was. Our doctor approached me after twenty minutes or so. He stated "you had a boy, he had no vitals, he will be flown to Minneapolis and your pastor is on the way." Lots of information for a first time father to absorb. Second, about 16 hours or so after arriving in the NICU I straight up asked the doctor what was in store for little g regarding his future. The doctor asked me to take a seat and proceeded to tell me something that rocked me to my core. He said "based on what little g has been through there is more than 50% chance that he will not survive the next 24 - 48 hours. If he makes it through that there is a very strong likelihood that he will never know who you are and will probably be in a vegetative state with little to no quality of life. I have seen worse babies do better and better babies do worse."

Due to his tenacity and never quit attitude he has defied the odds to date and has proven wrong nearly every professional who has worked with him. If I had to guess I would say that little g has a bright future. :)

Sorry for the long post.
Don't apologize; lil g's story is one that needs to be told again and again. The kid is awesome!

Evening, Lodge.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #131: Spring is here!

Now there is a big 10 conference does this mean there will be a video game?

Sadly, yes, if the CLC and the former head of the NHLPA (forget his name) get their stuff together.... there will both be a B12 conference and a hockey game

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #131: Spring is here!

For those who are curious...picture this being said really loud in a drunken slur.

That's exactly how it sounded. :D
You know...
I didn't even need you to say that to know how it was said.

Hello all, just wanted to drop in and say hello, hope everybody's monday is going much better than mine!

ctf, stay strong my friend. there are far more fish in the sea that are far more deserving of you.

Anywho, this has been an absolutely ****ty monday, I hate the Big 10, and i just want the weekend already. Lots of work on my plate this week, thank God there's hockey to look forward to this weekend.
I hope your day got better, dear, and thank you. In fact, thanks everyone for your support. I need to learn how to not fall for guys. Ever again.

And shoving me out of my seat, as I was talking to the girl.
Funny story for you. The Commie thinks I should move to the Twin Cities because there will be good influences there.
I asked who, and he said him and you.

Don't ever apologize, g. Ever.

Anyone have a tissue?
SUCH an inspiration, G. I love hearing about each obstacles Little G overcomes. I can't even imagine how proud you must be that you're raising such a miracle of a little boy.

You will, it is just part of life. You just need to learn from this experence and move on.

Never take advice from The Commie, EVER. It will NOT end well for you.

Keep your head up ctf, you'll find a guy that will give you absolutely everything you deserve..which is actually quite a bit;)

although it's been awhile since I've posted often on the board, with my hockey career likely over now, I'll have more time and hopefully I'll get back to knowing everyone in here again.

gmann, such an inspirational story for me, it's things like that which help us all to realize how truly blessed we all are. love the story, no need to be sorry.

Anywho, it's past 1am here, it's a beautiful march thunderstorm here, and I still cannot sleep. Sleeing's a waste of time anyways, isn't it?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #131: Spring is here!

Morning tLodge...

Inventory is done for the year!!!

Gmann...we all love hearing about lil g's triumphs and accomplishments. Especially picturing the look on his face (and yours and mrs. g's) when he accomplishes something new. Keep 'em coming.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #131: Spring is here!

I apologize because I post about little g quite often and I do not want to create the perception that I am trying to start a pity party.

Bottom line and regarding little g, it is what it is. His issues have opened my eyes to a world that very few people will ever experience. Little g will be ok. However, there are others who have things way worse than little g. It does not make his/our life any easier but it does put things into perspective at times. Almost all of us have a disability of some sort (looking at you Gopher fans) but with little g his disability is visable and much more obvious.
I never see this as a pity party. It is inspiring to read of his triumphs! I agree with all- don't stop!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!! terrible tuesday.
Spent 4 hrs this WE catching up on my charting at home. :( Lil is back into the practice grind which means that I don't have Tuesdays to catch up.

HH is almost over. Lil is giving it up after this yr. Makes me sad. Th HS team coach is bad enough that some of the Frosh parents this yr are looking for another place for their kids to play until he retires (their kids are pretty good but he just won't play anyone but Jr and Srs). The upperclassmen aren't of the best character. Even if he was a stud it wouldn't be happy for him to play but I am sad for the passing of a milestone. All the parents are shocked he is quitting and can't figure out why because he is really good on D (when he isn't being blown up because he is so lightweight). Even more sad- my Dad, who lives less than 5 miles from us, has never even seen him play. His choice. In a poignant mood this AM.
