Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #13^2: Independence!
Yawn.
I looked at the time, the Yawn and thought- holy cow RFAlph is at it early, even for him!
Congrats on the upcoming nupitals, the rest of you bring aspirin and hydration.
Scarlet- glad your surgery went well.
Bonfires are good.
Back at home after a week of drive-cation.. What I learned in the last week-
I could not be a long distance truck driver or a nomad. We weren't in one place longer than 2 days and a few we were only there less than 24 hrs. I have travelled like this since I was a little kid. I am good at being efficient, packing well and organizing things but I would rather vegetate for longer than a few days.
If you are on the interstate, OH, IN, PA and upper NY all look the same. Corn, Soy, lots of trucks on the hwy.
When you drive west through NY, PA and Ohio you get signs inviting you to SIN (Lion ADULT Books and toys) and to REPENT (various hand made signs and billboards). On the way East- only Bookstore signs. If you are heading east does that mean you are beyond redemption? I find this deliciously ironic- We don't have adult book store signs here in MA, supposedly the bastion of lasciviousness.
The Fingerlakes Region is beautiful but altho you can see the H2O, there aren't many public places to swim in the lake. Lake Seneca had one public beach (35 mi long lake) and that was closed for the Italian Festival.
Buy gas in OH as that was the cheapest place. You can get a shower in those truck stops too but you need to take a number.
17 yr old kids who are car crazy do very well when the place you are staying is also the place the Porsche and Lotus clubs are meeting to rally. They can also see various types of cars across an 8 lane hwy but not see they have spread their laundry over the path to the bathroom in the hotel room.
It is not wise to try to keep up with a 17 yr old fairly elite athlete when trying to hike 2.5 miles up a gorge that has multiple steps and requires you be somewhat of a Billy goat.
Very glad to be home.
