Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #13^2: Independence!

Good morning Lodge. Lovely morning here though it might rain later. Going to drive for the first time post surgery today, heading to the supermarket. Wish me luck! I didn't want my first time behind the wheel to be tomorrow on the way to work.

Having been thru similar type surgeries in the past, I really shouldn't be so surprised at how tired I've been. I'm sure it's just the lingering effects of the anesthesia. It's not the meds. I haven't taken any Percocet since Thursday morning. I'm thinking I may need some this week as I get back to my normal routine and walk more on it without the crutches.

You should keep the crutches just to play up the sympathy angle at work.

A couple times after getting out of my sling, I wore it while downtown because I noticed that when it came off people would come in close on me while I was given a good chunk of space when it was on. If it hadn't been July and hot, I would have done it more.

Promotion!!!! :p

The issue of a replacement is real, not just for his role as President, but his role as partner. The firm has typically been balanced between mechanical and electrical engineering ownership. Right now, with his death, we have 3 EE principals and 1 ME. On EE is planning to retire at years end and we have one new one being groomed. I see no one in the firm who is an obvious choice as an Owner in mechanical department. I'm sure my name will come up, if only to be rapidly dismissed. Not sure I am interested at this stage of my life, 5 years ago was different story...

There is a thing like too good weather. There was gridlock on one of the bike trails I use.

Hey.

Chili in the crock pot turned out pretty well, better than I expected.

Garlic herb pork loin w/green beans here. Lazy day. Basically gearing up for a busy 3 days of work before vacation.

Gridlock on a bike trail?

---

Hello from Quebec
Well, a bit of an exaggeration, but it was damm crowded on the W&OD especially near Leesburg. There is always a problem when trying to pass a group of walkers when people are also biking in the opposite direction. And then near DC there are many people who have rented bikes by the hour and barely know how to ride.

Sounds good.

I marinated some sirloins in a mixture of: lime juice, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, olive oil and various seasonings and then grilled them. I also grilled some asparagus (brushed olive oil and then sprinkled some coarse kosher salt on them). Home made choc chip cookies for dessert.

Good to be home. Last night/this morning I was up late with some friends. We were outside bs'ing around a fire. I got up about 3 hours after I went to bed and went for a very long kayak ride. Got back to the cabin and took a nap before I drove home. Good thing I only drank H2O last night otherwise I would have been a pile of nothing today.

Chicken kabobs, using red, yellow, and orange bell peppers and a white onion. I was going to add mushrooms, but got lazy and didn't want to clean them.

Hello from Quebec

In a previous life I spent a considerable amount of time in Quebec. I also frequented Quebec City, Sherbrooke and Vaudreuil and to a lesser extent Ottowa. Good times.

By August standards it was cold out last night. We had a very large fire. Dry oak and we kept piling on the wood. Something about a fire........... it's just simply awesome. Watching the flames, the smell....you know what I mean.

I'm a native MN. I do know what you mean. ;)

It just seems that a good fire takes away any stress you might have, calms you, and gives you inner peace. It's wonderful. So simple, but so awesome.
