Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 128: The Search for Wenches

Since I retired, I have not paid much attention to this sort of news. I had to google to find out what you were referring to. I checked OPM and they say everything is fine. Is this just affecting Census and other installations in Suitland?

As far as I know the Suitland Federal Center is closed... I would also wager that since the Smithsonian storage facilties are in the area they'd be affected as well. I didn't get any communications until 9:40... but the gate guard told us it was closed when I got there around 9:10. Either way, I get a day to myself doing some cleaning... and maybe brewing some beer. :)

Besides for Census, all I saw is NOAA. (They have all of the arks. ;) ) If this caused a section of the Beltway to buckle, it could cause problems for a while.

Cute quip re: NOAA, Ralph! :)

Afternoon, Lodge! Been getting up and going to the gym since Friday (well, Friday I went after work & shoveling). Up to 2 miles and doing some moderate lifting. Otherwise, not much happening here. Cold, but it is winter in New England, so it's tough to complain too much. Made homemade tomato sauce yesterday during the games, which was fun.
Just sayin' "hi".

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 128: The Search for Wenches

Hi back! Were you there on Saturday? I didn't make the trip up. Watched it though.

Agree about the cold. I always say that I don't mind the cold as you don't have to shovel cold. You can also drive in the cold with relative ease. That said, it totally affected the T this morning and I had to wait in the cold while three packed trains came and went. And I had to wear a hat. I hate wearing hats. They flatten my hair. I look terrible. Well, worse than I usually do.

We're building a new 22-story office tower a block away. Whatever it is they're doing there is causing this building to shake. It's been doing it a lot today. Driving me nuts.

Making chocolate chip cookies to bring to Lil and his friend when I pick them up from practice. Last night I made snail buns. Loving baking for some reason. Have also paid the bills, traveled down to the south of Boston (45 minute trip that took 1.5 hrs ) to handle some stuff with my Godmother, came back (45 minute drive for real this time), and did a load of laundry. I am now ready for a nap and instead have to go run a meeting later this evening. Sigh. Mr. and Lil will be having men's night and watching tons of sports.

They are either driving piles (posts) to hold the building up, or driving sheet piling (sheets of steel) to hold the soil in place while they excavate. Either way they are diving big chunks of steel into the earth, making it shake.

I was. Front row with the Hosers, but wearing my black BU Hockey Sweatshirt (and my #18 Yip Yip Yip Hooray! t-shirt). Watched Fri's game on tv.

I, too, hate wearing hats. I don't actually own one at the moment (well, I own 1, but it appears to have gotten lost in the move). I've been getting by with hoodie sweatshirts and the hood on my jacket, but I may break down and buy one soon if it stays this cold.

Thank you, les, for the reminder that I have to pay bills today. :o

I have a hat that I like to say is my personalized hat. It's baby blue with dork embroidered on it. I heart my hat. :)

I spent part of my day balancing my checkbook, making sure the bills are queued up for payment, and updating my spreadsheet (thanks again, 'ewe!). That way, I don't have to do the math, it does it for me!

Now that I have an oven I can make tater tot hotdish! Too bad I'm probably not going to be home to actually get around to it for about a month.

I'm going to need to try this tater tot hotdish you weirdos keep talking about. Is this an acceptable recipe, or would I be missing out on the true hot dish experience?

I don't know. That one looks a little light on the sodium and cholesterol. You may have to add some to make it the genuine article.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 128: The Search for Wenches

the area in which i work is under a "boil water" advisory... its unclear to me what that'll practically mean... I would think that would mean no work.

In the real world office, it would mean shut off the drinking fountains and coffee makers. In the federal government you're probably right.

maybe... should I mention the murders and robberies that have occurred right outside our complex and the numbers that can't just jump in a car to go somewhere for lunch?
