Well, see, there's your first mistake... ;) :D

Actually, I give you kudos for this. We're in the early stages of this, and getting any feedback from a certain uberdork is like pulling teeth.

I think my friend did it right...he told her when they got engaged that he would be as involved or uninvolved as she wanted him to be.

Actually, I debated the advantages of not being able to shower at work after the gym in terms of safety (there was an assault and attempted robbery of a census employee on my train last week). And, yes, I am at work. There's a limited amount of bottled water... hospitals in the area get priority and all that. In either case, should be interesting, I'd like to snare a few extra bottles before going into the gym.

I didn't realize you used a gym there. Shows what I know. :D

Speaking of lack of water, I will have that problem here tomorrow. For the first time since I retired, the water will be shut off between 9 and 5 tomorrow. Due to faulty construction in the building where I live, whenever anyone has to do plumbing repair, they have to shut off the entire water supply to the building. They try to limit this to once a month.

Nice design:rolleyes:, whoever set that up should be shot. Valves aren't that expensive

Smile & nod.
Best advise I received regarding marriage. :)

FYP

Regarding shut-off valves, it is possible there were some, but the were gate valves and they no long will shut off. Ball valves were less common in the old days, they hold when closed unlike old gate valves. If the building had decent management they would look to add shut-off valves whenever there is a shut-down like this.

This has been explained to me, but I never did understand it. The next time that I see one of the maintenance people, I'll ask. I had intended to go out most of the day to avoid all of this, but we are supposed to have about 6 inches of snow (which could be rain instead, being that the weathermen are quite noncommittal around here.)

Just drink beer instead of water. Problem solved.

Don't worry, they're pulling forecasts out of a hat up in NYC too. We went from rain forecasted for this storm yesterday, to 2-4" last night, to now 4-8 inches. It's amazing how technology has NOT improved the meteorological forecasting area. I know the difficulties in trying to forecast stuff since I had to take an intro to meteo course in school, but the point still stands.

I'm putting in about 5 today. I think with my new base, I'll be able to get the weekends off that I need to complete my races. I'm kind of excited for that. I have a 5K in May that I'm going to try to PR in.

Morning Lodge. Why didn't anyone tell me wedding planning is a gigantic pain in the *ss?
Awesomeness. I plan on running around 4 tomorrow, 3 on Thursday, and then 6 on Saturday.

Good afternoon, Lodge.

Were you absent when everyone was writing about that a few yrs back in the grinding thread at the time?

Suggest something completely outrageous and be serious about it. that usually gets some sort of half azzed opinion.

Should I also use beer to flush the toilet? :D
I heard the screech from many mouths after I read this...

Yep. I could try to spell my name in the snow from the 7th floor. :D
and this made me LOL

So I work in the mailroom at school, and a student just came here and wanted to make sure his letter was ok to be mailed out, as he had never mailed a letter before. Is it wrong that I was borderline shocked that a 21 year old kid didn't know how to mail something out?

Things like this make me hate being lumped in with this generation.

What worries me most is not that this generation has never mailed a letter, it's that they can't take 5 seconds and think out how to do it! Heck, I never had to write a check until I was 25. But it's not exactly bloody rocket science to figure out. And with the Internets at their disposal you'd think they'd be able to figure it out pretty quick.

That's my feeling as well. Although I was 'lucky' I guess to have been given a good education and being brought up by some pretty good parents who taught me some important life lessons on how to be a (fairly) functional member of society. I learned how to do checks and whatnot I think in middle school, maybe even elementary, and mailing a letter was definitely done in elementary.

Maybe if education nowadays focused on this sort of thing instead of showing Elmo screaming about birthday cakes and banging on a piano for five minutes, we wouldn't have this issue.

My sixth grade teacher had a saying that I'm finding rings truer and truer every day: "You're a product of your environment." We've made an environment where kids just don't get exposed to this stuff somehow, nor do we put them in a situation where they can learn to figure it out.
