Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 124: End of season: Which hockey table will you be at?

Well, I've loaded about 100 different houses within my price range into Excel with about 60 different specs/features/characteristics/amenities for each of them. Now that things are apples to apples, I think it's just a matter of going out and figuring out which features are actually important. Then eventually I'm going to refine that down to like 10-15 and dedicate a trip to each to walk through them. Yikes...

How bout these features? I think they would fall into the top 10-15.

- No bug/pest infestations
- No basement wall/floor leaks
- A recently installed furnace
- No crumbling retaining walls in the yard
- Not built on an Indian burial ground
- New hardwood flooring
- No mold
- No backed up septic tank

Yeah, that will have to be determined during walkthroughs. Especially the indian burial ground one. Also, no septic tanks. Period.

I walked through about 60 before I found this one. And I doubt you'll be able to get your preferences into a spreadsheet, there is just too much to take into account and not all of it can be quantified. Just go look at as many as possible, then you'll start to find out what you really want.

Not that I ever looked at houses, but I will say the same applied to apts. It's the little things that make one place a favorite over another. You want no house with mold damage, sure. But what if one house has a certain view you like, or a little bit nicer yard, or just the layout of the house itself? Those are the things that really make you fall in love with it.

Yeah, basically what I did was put in my price range, my locations, the following minimums: 2 beds, 2 baths, 1 garage, built 1980 or later. Looked at about 400 houses (pictures, maps, etc.) and just general layouts as much as I could deduce. Whittled that down to the 100 I have now.

We are able to book ice at Ridder or Mariucci for $200/hr. Of course we have a tax ID # as a non-profit and our association liabilty umbrella so that may make a difference. Hmmm, wonder if I can book it for my peewee team then sublet it to the USCHO crew...hmmmm.

Actually, I played in a charity tournament, Hockey for the Heart, at Ridder last spring. They have good ice, too. It's the first year, and they're hoping to make it an annual thing. At any rate, it's small enough that I know the guys running it. They told me basically what you just said. They granted an insurance waiver so long as all players enrolled in USA Hockey and thus cut the hourly rate in half, or something like that.

As a result of the insurance waiver, a bunch of AHA guys played this tournament along with a few of us who play Super Rink. Both leagues require USA Hockey enrollment anyway.

Either way, it's gonna be a hell of a party when you move in. We won't wreck the place, we promise. But there might be a TFLN or two resulting. ;)

Thats one way to get all of the cockroaches out of your apartment.
They're asian beetles and are clustered outside the front door (and I don't live in an apartment - I'm not some ghetto work-slacker like the forklift jockey). :p

Good morning! Happy Birthday LWB! Happy Friday to everyone!!

Work died down a bit, since I've finally gotten caught up with my emails. Now on to more important things. I have no idea how to do my hair for my halloween costume, I tried to mess with it last night and it doesn't look anything like it is supposed to. Maybe the ladies of the lodge have some hints...I'm trying to get it to go backwards, but not slicked back, like a flowy backwards. All that happens when I try is that it sticks straight up, or it ends up slicked back. Do I need some kind of special hair gel/spray to get it to do that? Hair dryer? I'm stumped. To make it more complicated I need to spray some of that temporary hair paint stuff in, to make it kinda gray. (I'm dressing up as the Dos Equis 'Most Interesting Man in the World")
Put some volumizing mousse in your hair before you blow dry it.

Good morning Lodge. Vacation day for me. Getting things ready for the trek to Bemidji.
