Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

I will never buy a car that is Hyundai, Honda, Mazda, Toyota, Kia, Nissan...etc. Hate them all. I'm sorry, but I'm sticking to Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Chrysler, Buick, Cadillac, Jeep, Lincoln...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

Dad retired from Ford. The Ford money paid for the farm, paid for the college, and Ford is taking care of Dad's retirement. So when the time comes to buy a vehicle every 7-8 years or so, all that's going in my garage is a Ford. Parents got a 2010 Taurus this summer. That thing is really nice.

You're either going to walk away wearing a ****-eating grin or saying "I will never drive one of those again as long as I live."

They're beautiful, but I'm in the latter category. A friend of mine had one, and we went somewhere in it, and afterwards I told him "look, I love hanging out with you guys, but I'm never riding in that thing again." Worst riding vehicle I've ever been in, and we had to yell at each other to have a conversation, as he had a soft top, and we had to listen to "WOOGITY WOOGITY WOOGITY" at 60 MPH. Great looking vehicle, horrible to ride in.

I've got just over 85K on my '03 Ranger SC 4x4. I doubt a new vehicle is in my immediate future, but if I had to grab a new vehicle, it's either a new F-150 or a Taurus. Both are incredible.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

I thought you said your area was more noted for its Goat production?? ;)
Well, we do have goat theives.

Dare I even ask what you've bought with 170K? I'm going to guess 3-4 bedrooms with an actual backyard and a basement.
My deal wasn't as good as bb_dl's but for under your number I got 3 bed, 2 bath, 2.5 car garage, big backyard. No basement really because it's a bi-level. Just outside of Ann Arbor, so I get Ann Arbor schools, but township taxes.

And PMI is lame. I laugh at the bf who has had his house 5 years and is still paying PMI. My bank account looked much sader after closing, but I've never paid PMI.

Beyond that, I'd really like a Mazda 3 Speed. I like the idea of the hatchback for my hockey gear. And the Speed would just be fun.
I love my Mazda 3, and the bf liked his. Mine's an '07 with the 2.3 L engine. Haven't had a problem with it yet.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

Nope, no maternity leave. The lack of benefits is the crappy part of working through an agency. I am covered by FMLA, so I could stay out longer if I could afford to do so.

You belong to the **** My Life Association?!?!?!?

Welcome to this week's edition of "Car Talk." Immediately following this week's edition of "Real Estate Virgins." :p ;)

Morning Lodge. Can't believe how freaking busy I've been, and continue to be. But I don't know what my guys are going to be doing past about next Wednesday. :( We have some more projects in house, but it'll be a while before they're ready for us to work on them. And I'll be out from Monday afternoon till Friday next week as I'm presenting at a conference in Chicago then attending the rest of the conference. Hope I can find work for them before I leave.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

You guys definitely don't want to know what I paid for my lake property about 45 minutes north of the Twin Cities. Granted the cabin is pretty small but the shoreline makes up for that. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

Good morning, Lodge.

The funeral was good yesterday; lots of people there, including my brother and family I haven't seen in years. And everyone I talked to reminded me that Mom isn't suffering anymore... that's the one thing I'm taking comfort in right now.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

S'upp y'all

Mazda is owned by ford...

Yup, and Mazda makes some good small sedans. I've heard a lot of good things about the Fords as well (trucks and cars), but I'd still shy away from Chrysler cars. We've had a lot of good luck with Jeeps over the years, though.

Good morning, Lodge.

It's hard not to sound trite, Bob, but I really hope your family becomes stronger in the aftermath. Good luck, and my condolences again. :(

Morning, Lodge. I think this will be a good day. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

The F-150's have been rock-solid for years, but the cars have really improved since Mullally took over at Ford. The Fusion is nice, and you already know what I think of the new Taurus. I was also surprised how much room the Focus had when I sat in one of those at the dealership.

Bob, I generally stay away from commenting on the bad things that happen to other people, due to the fact that I'm not very good with things like that, and the fact that I also tend to let people have their space in times like this, but I was very sorry (and shocked) to hear of your mother's passing. I wish you nothing but the best in dealing with her passing and everything related. (told you I wasn't very good at this)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

Good morning Lodge.

A good friend of the g family has been having some health issues the last couple weeks. Received a text last night. "Mayo Clinic contacted us with the results that we anticipated. I officially have been diagnosed with lymphoma."

I am at a loss for words. Less than six weeks ago another friend of ours (same circle of friends) lost his battle with cancer. Please say an extra prayer for Mrs. g as she is really struggling with this as she is still grieving over the passing of our friend and now this.........:(

Edit - sorry to be a buzkill to all the car/house talk. :)

a car should be nothing more then something to get you from point A to point B.

That being said, I will have my Nissan Sentra through the year 2013. Then I will look into getting a new car. And it will most likely be an Altima.

Buy one that's a year old and save yourself the depreciation. Knocking a year off the car's life is worth the 35-50% in savings.

Thoughts and prayers for you and your family and friend gmann. What kind of lymphoma? I only asked as my friend was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma earlier this summer and her prognosis has been good so far. I believe Hodgkins is one of the most treatable and curable cancers so while it is devastating to hear, there is some hope out there.

I am not sure about the lymphoma. The text I received is all I know at this point.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 120: How do you want to die?

Good morning all! It's really hard to work when the portal you use to access the company's systems is not working. Grr...

I was about to say... I thought FMLA just meant you couldn't lose your job... I don't think you get paid... if your company wants to be nicer than that then its up to them.
Yep, it's amazing how many people don't realize that the leave guaranteed by the FMLA is unpaid.

No Math!

Banner day for the les house. We are finally attached to town sewer. We had to bite the bullet or pay some humongo fine if we waited past this yr. Mr was happy to point out that we now can flush and use as much paper as we want:p
Congrats! Another benefit is that you won't have to get a septic inspection before you sell your house.

I have to admit that I have a special spot for the longhood stingrays of the 70's. They look soooooo sleek. But the newer ones are pretty badarse.
I do too, but for totally different reasons. :o

/me preps for taking heat on this one.

I've got a '05 Scion xB (1st gen, the boxy version). Over 113k on it, and I've only had one maintenance issue, and have only needed to replace the brakes once. Blast to drive, lots of interior space given the overall size of the car due to the box shape, and its great on fuel (~ 25/30.) I'll admit its either a love/hate car, but I've transformed a lot of impressions once people get inside it.[/QUOTE Thank you for the info, we are considering a Scion for our next car. :)

Bob & gmann - my thoughts and prayers are with you and your families at this difficult time. :(

assuming I'm getting one in 2014, I will buy a 2010 or 2011 model.
