Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 118: BoredboredboredBORED

Fail.

5-8 Club, Matt's, Broadway, Davanni's, Senser's, Green Mill, Ol' Mexico... these are all better choices. Don't know where you were staying, but that's no excuse.

I'd just about kill for some Broadway Pizza. Definitely not missing it next time I'm home.
Oh trust me, I know I failed. And I was all over everywhere. Fridley, Spring Lake Park, Maplewood, downtown Minneapolis, Forest Lake.. I covered all of the bases, just not food wise.

W T F is Aculpaco's????

Could she mean Acapulco's?
That is very much what I meant. Like I said, early. I don't do well with that. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 118: BoredboredboredBORED

Hm. Closest thing I had to decent food while I was in the cities (got back at 3AM yesterday, so I've no idea why I'm awake already) was Aculpaco's, which wasn't anywhere near as good as I had remembered. IHOP was pretty good though, I suppose. And I had missed Wendy's. And Starbucks.

I'm sorry. You're in probably the nicest big city in the Midwest (take your traffic jams and population density, and suck it Chicago :p), and you decided to eat like the average, ignorant American tourist on a McTrip?

Mel has the right idea.

Good morning. I'm enjoying a cold glass of cranberry/blueberry juice to cool the heat of mid-morning. Hope your day is going well.:)

Mornin' Loj. Good luck Bob!
Thank you! Today, I'm getting myself a new job...

Nice. I'm about to shred and clean some kale for tonight's dinner. Just need to come up with a nice sauce for the chicken thighs, and I'll be all set.

This is where I failed when I went to Chicago earlier this year. Instead of eating at the local establishments, I settled for IHOP, Chili's, and Romano's Macaroni Grill. :(

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 118: BoredboredboredBORED

I'm going to remember this list for the next time I'm in the cities. It might actually be soon, too.
Me too. In fact, as April approaches, I vote that a thread be started so we can get input from the locals on where to drink (oh, and eat).
Example... we went to Friendly's when I was down in Ohio last week. I believe it's some sort of chain, but I'd never been, so we went there.
  Their ice cream creations are AWESOME! (granted, I haven't been in years).

Checking in, Lodge. Busy day today, but the highlight will be submitting my application to CASPA (the catch-all application center that you submit your application to. CASPA then does all the copying and processing and mails your applications out to whichever schools you specify.) I'm shaking like a leaf.

Edit - good luck, Bob!

So I'm thinking of letting my son sign up to start reffing this year. He's expressed interest in it before. Hmmm...

Rainy and depressing AGAIN. I should not be experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder in farking August.

If you're going to visit Alaska, avoid summer. It's gray and depressing. Visit in March/April instead. Clearer skies, there's still snow on the ground and mountains, and no hordes of tourists to contend with.

Apparently, if you get one of their combo meals, you get a free happy ending!

Hey SB, Sounds like you're eating lean and mean these days....chicken thighs and kale can't have too many unhealthy calories. Good job.

Sodajerk by Buffalo Tom was written about working in a friendly's.

Booo. AND you never mentioned you were in Hoffman Mistakes, just up the road from NMUKat and I. :p

There are some good local places everywhere in the Chicagoland region; some complete dives that have the best food too. :) Although, I will admit that I do fall into the same problems and go to chain places more than I should.

Speaking of that, this place was supposed to open up near my office...

'Afternoon all. I am so glad it is hump day. Work-wise yesterday was aweful. We're shorthanded and everyone wants something ASAP.

* morning, Lodge.

Thanks to being short-staffed, a few of us were asked to work longer shifts over the next couple days, I accepted, even though I knew it would be blech. I may have chose poorly.
This week I feel your pain. Except that instead of OT, I'll get to clock out early on Friday.

Thank you! Today, I'm getting myself a new job...
Good luck!

Chains have their place, but I like to try fairly local eateries if I can when in a new place. Or, at the very least, someplace I've never been before.

Example... we went to Friendly's when I was down in Ohio last week. I believe it's some sort of chain, but I'd never been, so we went there.

I heart Friendly's! They are one of the reasons I was happy to move back to New England. More accurately, being able to buy their ice cream at the grocery store is one of the benefits of living here. (we actually had a Friendly's near us in NC.) Odd thing, they are one of the few, if not the only, non-fast food chain restaurants in town. Everything else here is locally owned.
