Taking the rest of the afternoon off from school work, stress about apartment, essay editing, grad school applications, and job applications. :o F* everything. I'm watching Dead Like Me until I have to leave for the day.

If you do come down to Quinnipiac or Yale, let me know, Mr. Hit and I can meet up with you (we're close to both schools)
Yeah, we could make it a mini meet-and-greet! :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 116: Who's to blame for the lack of a new thread this mornin

Good Afternoon, Lodge!

After a rollercoaster week at work, it is time for happy hour! Why did my supervisor come back? Things were much easier. I was also given a project to design a flyer and they wouldn't tell me the specs or who is the printer. If I recall my education, those are one of the many questions to ask from the get go before you start on a project. Then I find out it is a tri-fold brochure mailer. These people are idiots!

This marks the end of my first "full" (28 hr.) week on the job. This is all you need to know about the other programmer in the office, who has been there a year:

Him: See, coding is a hobby of mine. I love code. Love reading it, love writing it, love watching it work. I go home on weekends and keep studying code.

Me: ...*implied facepalm*

Well, at least he loves his job. :D

ETA - the 'Genuinely nice planet' thread is turning into an argument between two grumpy old men. Where's the popcorn, this should be entertaining. :p

Oh, I'm sure legal is going to be grumpy over the next couple months from time to time.

He is a stereotypical CS major. While working on code, he thinks aloud to no one in particular. I fear it's only a matter of time before I hear that when he's not coding, he's a sleepless World of Warcraft addict, surrounded by empty Domino's boxes and cans of Mountain Dew or Monster.

He's not necessarily unpleasant to work with, but oddball, OCD people like him are one of the reasons I was glad to get out of Tech's CS department early on.

But that could be ANY major at Tech.

True, though at Tech the CS majors are usually the strangest/scariest/worst.

...but he's not a Techie. ;)

People who are only about their discipline and don't have much else scare me because I get the feeling that they're an event from a spectacular breakdown. No way can it be healthy.

Not to mention, how do these people live without at least a few friends and a modest social life?

From experience... not well :(

But yeah, I look at these types... I fear for them. I know of at least 1 at work. I don't like my lot in life... I'm trying to figure my way out of it... these guys that are gung ho on the discipline and don't do much else... I don't know, that's not a life.

Maybe they don't feel the need for these other things... it doesn't make sense to me.

He can take offense... you can take advice. ;) (I'm probably in the same boat about not enough social interaction, but hey, my entire job is about social interactions. :p)

**** right. I don't even know what world war craft is. Hell, I don't know if I've ever played a non sports video game except for those old mario games on nintendo when I was 5. I owned a playstation but I only played hockey, football, golf and car racing games.
