Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 116: Who's to blame for the lack of a new thread this morning?

 Ugh, so the real-estate guy who is showing my place called to say that he has a couple that wants to come by at 6pm tonight to show the place. I tell him, thanks for calling to check first, but I won't be home until Sunday. I'm currently at work and am leaving for a weekend vacation from here. He asks if I locked the door and could I leave it open for him in the future since he doesn't have key. Sure, I'm going to just leave my apartment unlocked when I'm not there...you know, with my camera, my laptop, tv, etc. inside.

 I found this guy totally incompetent when I was looking at the place the first time (he was the realtor with the listing), good to see nothing's changed. At least the renter isn't paying his fee.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 116: Who's to blame for the lack of a new thread this morning?

I was thinking the same thing (especially if he's coming from MSP). I flew roundtrip there from Boston in Sept. 08 for about 299$, so I don't think it's unreasonable to be paying that for Atlanta roundtrip.

MSP to ATL RT 3 weeks earlier (i'm going twice) was $219 after all fees. I realize its a holiday, but still. Plus freaking Delta is hubbed here and there.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 116: Who's to blame for the lack of a new thread this morning?

I'm tossing around the idea of making a trip out east for a weekend of watching hockey. Not sure where I'd go, but I think January is working out to be the best time, any of the weekends after new year weekend would work. I want to catch 3 games, somehow, so I've been trying to find Thursday or Sunday games and build a trip around that, but there is only one Sunday game on the schedules I found and that is Brown, bleh. Any suggestions on where are must see matchups? I'd like to check out more than one arena, and since there are so many programs out there, that shouldn't be a problem.

Um, hello, leave a door unlocked in Revere? What is he insane? This is what they make lock boxes for.

I don't think it is a hub matters anymore. Flights are stupid expensive out of Charlotte which is the US Air hub. If we fly out of Greenville, 90 minutes south of Charlotte, the flights are a lot cheaper, but you have to fly through Charlotte.

Southwest is having their fall sale right now, did you look into them?

I'd say it depends on where "out east" you're planning to go -- we're a pretty big place, you know. :p If you go to Boston, you can see Northeastern (a big recommendation given how much history there is at Matthews), Boston University (really nice new, but sometimes sterile, rink), Boston College. If you want DIII, there's a few other programs in the area. If you're planning on renting a car, that opens up Lowell (+/- 45 mins from Boston), Merrimack (+/- 30 mins), UNH (an hour-ish), Bentley (in the Boston area), Holy Cross (in the Worcester area). If you're in CT, you can hit Yale and Quinnipiac, and Sacred Heart (you might even be able to do Yale/the Q and a few Hockey East schools depending on the schedule). GLM or Rocket probably has a better idea if you were planning on being in NY.

The hard part is that Thursday and Sunday games are not all that common. Your best best would be to look in the later part of the month when school is back in session.

I was thinking more of the Connecticut-Massachusetts-New Hampshire area, I'd like to go to a couple places in New York, but I might be going that way for work already. I think I'd stick to D1 games, or if it works out maybe even an AHL or Bruins game. Ideally, I'd do something like BU on Friday night, drive to UNH on Saturday, then come back to catch a Sunday game at Northeastern, but the schedule isn't going to work for that with the lack of Sunday games. I also looked at the CT schools, I wouldn't mind going to Quinnipiac or Yale but I don't have much interest in Sacred Heart.

If you do come down to Quinnipiac or Yale, let me know, Mr. Hit and I can meet up with you (we're close to both schools)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 116: Who's to blame for the lack of a new thread this morning?

Anyone have connections to get good airline fares? I don't want to pay $299+ for RT to Atlanta over Thanksgiving. :(

I know SG flies free, but that doesn't really help me. :D

yeah man, 299 isn't all that bad over Thanksgiving. But if you're insisting on finding cheaper fares, check kayak.com or check Frontiers website. You'd have to go through Denver, but you might find a ridiculously cheap rate.

And quit yer beechin and pay higher fares so I can make more money. :p

I don't know if you're driving or flying, but you could do the following: January 21-23
Fly into Boston on Friday a.m.:
Friday: BC @ BU
Saturday: Lowell @ BC
Sunday morning, take Amtrak (or MBTA commuter-rail) to Providence)
Sunday: US-18 team @ Providence
Fly out of Providence.

hmm, that wouldn't be bad. I imagine that the BC-BU game is a pretty good one to see. :p

I have plenty of time to figure it out, and I put a bunch of the games into a spreadsheet, to help plan what I could do. With the limited amount of Sunday games, I might have to settle for the exhibition game @ Providence. Or else I could always go the the Sunday Yale @ Brown game. That weekend would probably be:
1/14 - Harvard @ BU
1/15 - Vermont @ Northeastern
1/16 - Yale @ Brown

So..... don't see PC?

Good advice.

1/13 - Flyers @ Bruins

Except then you'd have to watch the Flyers and Bruins.
