Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 115: What sports do you watch in the off-season?

'Ello Lodge...
So, worst 4th of July weekend to date, minus drinking with my fam for the first time.

Just found out I've got to read The Great Gatsby for my 3000 level Humanities class. Especially amusing because I managed to get through high school without reading any F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Wait, your weekend was horrible because you have to read a 200 page book?

I wish my life was as difficult as yours.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 115: What sports do you watch in the off-season?

Aren't you cute, JF.
No, completely unrelated thoughts. The first pertains to ******s of exes, crappy sisters, and basically being alone all weekend.
The latter "issue" was amusing.

I was about to say... I had to read 5 liberal screeds and one book on the Armenian Genocide when I took a 100 level sociology class (which is fair, because I didn't really know what sociology was... I just figured it was like group psychology or anthropology). For a non-reader like myself that was not fun... especially since the tests were only on the books themselves.

Now, if Gatsby is like the first of 5 fiction texts I'll feel bad.

3000 level? That must be wicked advanced.

The Great Gatsby, like NMU girls, is a short and easy read.

Well, I did have to get special permission to be in the class?

I've got to read the Great Gatsby, the Norton Anthology of American Literature Volume D, and The Condition of Postmodernity.

I think you will survive. Only the Anthology is longish (1000 pgs) and it might even be interesting as its about the years between the wars (1914-1945).

Because its advanced or because you were on ap? ;)

Yup - I only read that as a freshman in high school. :p (and I agree, it's boring and pompous and annoying.)

Twitch: you'd best be enjoying yourself in Juneau. :D

Evening, Lodge. Never thought I'd appreciate two days off in a row this much. Also, I should have read the city website a bit more carefully, because I missed garbage day this week due to the funny holiday situation. :o

The Anthology doesn't seem too bad, a lot of Frost, etc.
And because it's advanced for a freshophomore.

Yeah, I should have read it as a junior, but I took AP Comp instead of the class I would've read it in.

Evening, Lodge. This morning, I had to go to the ER because after having some blood work done, the lab called back and told me my hemoglobin level was a mere 6. The hospital wanted to admit me, but they just gave me a couple blood transfusions and told me to follow up with my primary care doctor tomorrow, as well as meet with a hematologist.

At least my sling comes off tomorrow I hope.

What is a hemoglobin level supposed to be at?

Good luck - here's hoping your hemoglobin levels stabilize, and that the sling lasts no longer!

I was commenting on the level...maybe things have changed, but we took 100-400 level courses...3000 seemed a bit high. :p

When you have to read Homer in the original Greek you can complain about reading :D

Michigan Tech has 1000-4000 courses (and 5000s and 6000s for graduate school).

Forget the sandwich, have a steak and a spinach salad!

Good on the sling! Can't wait for another week so I can shed mine!

Thanks! I know exactly where to find a steak and spinach salad, and I think I'll go there tomorrow! As for the sling, I can't wait to take it off... the two months of downtime has driven me insane.

you know, UConn made the high number switch... it used to be 100-299 (undergrad) now its 1000-4999... but their enrollment is over 500 people too.
