still... its something people shouldn't have to put up with... we do because we're not jerks. I was realizing you must have to deal with the thick of it... being down in Waterfront (right?) puts you near enough to the mall and all the rest if you go on a ride. Must be crazy out there.

not in the nation's capital... I got to see it all from my apartment :) I've got one building partially obstructing and that's about it.

The worst thing about 4th of July is the late night non-sponsored fireworks. Hard to sleep with random fireworks going off from 11 pm til lord knows when.

A good way to celebrate the 4th is to contact any British friends you have, wish them a happy Independence Day and ask them what they're doing to celebrate.

Get a white noise generator - they're great at canceling out whatever random noise is occurring outside.

I don't think its noise in general that is the issue for me. I can sleep through noise.. when its constant. I think its the random loud explosion that gets me. :o Kind of like Thunder waking you up when it sounds like its 2 feet from your window.

That's why a noise generator helps - if you have a constant sound of some sort, it makes it less likely you will hear the random crap from outside. If I didn't have a noise generator, I'd never be able to sleep during the day.

My problem is getting asleep, it takes me about am hour and a half to fall asleep but when I am asleep, I am dead. I've already slept through one earthquake.

Watched the St Louis Park fireworks with BPH/MNS/ShirtlessGuy. 40 minutes, and the finale was pretty good, but if they used the same amount of fireworks in half the time, it woulda been awesome. There were too many 1-2 shoots, then a brief pause, then 1-2 more for the first 1/2 hour or so.

Did get a chance to sample BPH's homebrews. The darker one was really good, while the wheat (?) one was okay, but something was missing. He left 3 bottles, but neglected to say that they were different kinds, so it kinda was like Christmas opening them and pouring them. Didn't know what you were gonna get. :)

Juneau, Alaska has the most depressing weather in the world. Hands down.

It rains pretty much 24/7, there are low clouds everywhere, and the sun is as existent as Barack Obama's birth certificate.

ETA: Kelsey's making me say something to 'diva in German. But I don't know any. BECAUSE I'M A DUMB PANDA

Yep, Waterfront. I almost always pass the Jefferson Memorial on the way home.

One good thing. I rode to there from Rosslyn and the Mt. Vernon trail to the 14th Street Bridge. That part of the Mt. Vernon trail is usually full of people in the afternoon who have staked out a spot to watch the fireworks. While waiting they let their kids run uncontrolled on the trail, play frisbee, and otherwise make it very difficult for bicyclists. For an unknown reason, there were very few people there when I passed this time.

My dad, an avid cyclist, puts up with the same stuff.

As far as "bigger than you" etc etc, it's not the size (well, in THIS case ;) ) it's the attitude you bring. If someone mouthed off to me, when I knew I was perfectly in the right, and they were in the wrong, they would feel rather belittled after I got done with them verbally. And if they opted to get physical, well, I'm not exactly built, but I would promise them (and deliver) that I would be in the hospital bed next to them. ;) :D

It was a fine weapon, but it just fell into the wrong hands. And we always have Twitch and the other vuvuzela site to rely on. ;)
