Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

I had the album centerfold from the same album (the one that is the picture of the moon) on my wall as a teenager and college student. Not a huge Floyd fan, but I do appreciate their music.
I'm sure you'll understand this - when I got back into Pink Floyd as a teenager, it was because DSotM and The Wall reminded me of childhood.

The song "Money" kinda freaked me out when I was around 5 or 6. The guy laughing was very creepy. I loved the bassline, though, and the overall feel (also, things that creeped me out when I was a kid I found enjoyable as I got older).

And, it's great being in the 4th or 5th grade and singing, "We don't need no education." Sure, I didn't know what the song was really on about, I was just uninterested with being in school at that point. :)

This is also why I never really associated PF with drugs - I certainly wasn't even thinking about that when I was 7, so why would I later? I was aware of the connections when I "re-discovered" the music in high school, but it always just seemed peripheral.

Apparently even though I thought I was taking it easy with move (napping, drinking water, not doing much the last two days) my body did NOT agree with me. I started having contractions yesterday, which gave me a five hour stay in the hospital, 1.5 liters of fluid by IV and some medicine which makes my heart race, but calms the contractions. The baby is fine, but I can't do much more than sit around for the next five days. She did clear me for the ride back to Conn so we'll be doing that tomorrow. And since my work is from home on a computer, I can still work.
Heard about the contractions from mom last night. Glad to hear everything is ok!

You can bring us "supervise" on Sunday. (It's a nice way of saying "sit around and watch us do all the work". :p :) )

My wife began contractions with our first child at seven months, which the doctor stopped, and she had to take it easy (mostly bedrest) until the 36-week point. We were a little nervous, and had a lot of false alarms when the time came: on our sixth trip to the hospital (in a seven-day period) the baby finally arrived!

Also, she had our first daughter natural, and our second with an epidural. She highly recommends the latter option.

Good luck to you!

But there are some seriously hot men for Scarlet to get all hot and bothered over. :)

GE - my brother sent me a large envelope yesterday. Email me your address so I can forward what he said and make you a hero in the eyes of your daughter. At least for a little while!

So....one of my best friends, the one I go out with on Thursday nights, told me yesterday she has lymphoma. :( Or they're pretty confident she does. Today she's having a surgical biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. She noticed this lump on her neck/collarbone area about a month ago. It kind of came out of nowhere. Thankfully, everyone she's seen so far has told her if she has to get some kind of cancer, this is the best kind to get as its both treatable and curable. Needless to say, while she's trying to be upbeat and positive, it's freaking her out. I'm scared for her but am also positive that whatever treatment she gets will work. And if there is one time I need to not be Opposite Girl, this is it.

I am going to go see her tomorrow. She said right now she's just looking for company and support. I can do both. The news kinda threw off my day yesterday. I need to do all the stuff today that I should have done yesterday.
 She'll be in my thoughts! I assume she's in Boston, so she has plenty of options to receive the best medical care.

 I agree with tcbg below. I think you'll make an excellent supervisor on Sunday. :D

Not much going on here (after those two posts, I suppose I should be thankful!).

Thanks! We're optimistic that I just overdid it and if I take it easy we should be fine.

I didn't know that Money creeped you out back then. (of course, back then your taste in music, was um, questionable at times. ;) :p )

As far as associating PF with drugs, I think you are right.

Thanks, I think I can handle that!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Good luck to Scarlet's friend and to legal! And as for goldy, too bad your wife can't handle a pound either. ;)

Morning, Lodge. It's pretty gloomy outside, but eff it, I don't care - I have a day off, and I'm going to enjoy it. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Try some espresso.

Thanks! I would try some espresso, but I got to work and realized that I had industrial strenght coffee here. I am more awake now than I was 3 hours ago. I am on my third cup here. It should be an interesting afternoon.

Twenty years with the same company for me today, but since we're both tacky & abrasive it's really no surprise it worked out for us. One of the perks of time served (Read: Being an old fart, at least by the standards here  ) is I get five weeks vacation plus a week of floaters/personal time so I celebrated our milestone by taking off today. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Re: Pink Floyd. My dad is a pretty big fan, so I grew up listening to The Wall a lot when he'd drive me anywhere. Never thought about how funny it must have been to hear a kid singing "we don't need no education." Comfortably Numb and Hey You were my favorite songs growing up. I didn't have any drug associations with the albums then.

I also saw The Wall and the Dark Side of the Moon laser shows over at the Museum of Science in Boston. They're pretty awesome, if a bit creepy. Haven't experienced them with any "additional enhancement".

Not to mention that you both foul the groundwater with exotic chemicals! :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Regarding Pink Floyd - they are my favorite except for Boxcar Willie. ;)

When I was 5 years old I stumbled across The Wall 8 tracks part I and II at a garage sale. At the time I had no clue what Pink Floyd was but I thought the cover on the 8 track was pretty cool so I had my mom buy both of them. I listened to both 8 tracks religiously and at the age of 5 became a Pink Floyd fan. When I was 12 or so I started collecting Pink Floyd memorabilia. To date I have been to over 20 Pink Floyd concerts and my Pink Floyd collection is kick azz. Wish You Were Here is my favorite song and for the last 34 years The Wall has been my favorite album. :)

Happens to the best of us. Been that kind of week around here, too, so I can empathize. Cheers to a better weekend!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Personally, I put "The Wall" way down the list of favorite Pink Floyd albums. I've got it ahead of A Nice Pair and Meddle, but never really cared for it overall.
Maybe because so many of us were still arguing over DSotM vs. WYWH we didn't want to muddy the water :D

We're talking Clifton Road here (the first house I lived in, for those of you outside the family). My musical tastes included Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Joan Jett, and Cyndy Lauper. I also recall listening to a lot of Dire Straits and U2. It wasn't until Middle School that my musical tastes hit the crapper. Fortunately, grunge saved me. :)

(And what does it say that Firefox flagged "Lauper" as misspelled, but not "Cyndy"? )

Back in college after the party had ended a few buddies and I would do something to kill a few more brain cells and then play this song. "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict". If you have not heard the song give it a try.............. :D

Anyone ever heard the song?

Indeed. I believe it is on Ummagumma, and was re-released on "Relics" (sort of a "greatest hits from before the big albums" compilation).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

It's Party Central at Chez Shot this weekend. A twenty-five year old female second cousin of Mrs. Shot is getting married next month. In adavnce of that, we are throwing the bride-to-be and her fiance a bridal shower tomorrow evening.

Forty or so guests for drinks, dinner and the works. Lots of prep been going on for the last several weeks. Mrs. Shot has gone above and beyond the call of duty on this one. She and the bride's father are first cousins and have been lifelong close friends.

The guest list includes half a dozen or so couples of our vintage and the rest are kids in the twenty-five to thirty year old age bracket. Looking forward to an enjoyable evening. Lots of cleanup tomorrow night and Sunday morning. Have a good weekend all.:)

Spinach is good arm food. See Popeye.
Yep.

A co-worker of mine is married to a Mexican woman, and he did a church mission down in Mexico with his family. When the US beat Mexico, he tried to tease her about it a little. He slept on the couch for a week.
He's just lucky that he didn't get the John Wayne Bobbit Treatment!!

Sweeeeet! Just made MAJOR progress with the better looking and cooler roommate tonight. It is working just like I planned.

Ugh. The pains of battle. I still have to be at work at 7. Oh well, they make monster for a reason.

Yes, but that reason is still Classified yet and we're not aloud to talk about that yet. ;)

Grrrrrr..... Computer has been in the shop since Monday and been limping along with Mom's old laptop and my ipod. Mom's laptop is slower than dirt and probaly hasn't been used since october, but since all I have to plug in my iPod is a USB charger for now, been plugging it in and doing more updates on the laptop to get it into somewhat working order. Think if I ever get the chance, I would get here one of those iPads, and shot this junk heap.

Only real complaint I have about viewing the USCHO forum on the ipod is that its not nearly as easy to do as it on a regular PC or Laptop. Odd thing is that another MB I'm on, which runs about the same software package as what USCHO does, looks and runs about the same on an iPod as what it does on a regular PC. Odd, but they took the time to make their MB more Mobile user friendly.
