Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Sweeeeet! Just made MAJOR progress with the better looking and cooler roommate tonight. It is working just like I planned.

Ugh. The pains of battle. I still have to be at work at 7. Oh well, they make monster for a reason.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

You have been a deprived child until now. Have you seen Black Sheep?
Erm, no?

What? Seriously?
Indeed. Keep in mind though, I couldn't see it without my parents' permission until 5 years ago.

Trust me she hasnt seen any of the classics...
Oh shut up. How many nights did you have the opportunity to force me to sit down and watch them, yet you went to sleep at 10, and I stayed up until 2 watching stupid stuff on Spike with Jon.

Farley sucks/is overrated. Except Motivational Speaker and the Chippendales skit.
For the record, I have seen both of those. I'm definitely not SNL deprived.

Hi lodgey. I like this new one, Mel.

Good Morning, Lodge!

I don't think there is enough coffee to keep me awake today. I have already had 3 cups and it has had no effect on me yet.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Add me as another sober/drug free Floyd fan. :) Wish You Were Here is one of my favorite all time albums.

BTW, is the world cup over yet? I'm already sick of it.

So GE, big World Cup fan, eh? Here's a little something from that idiot announcer who'll be annoying fans globally for the next month. Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal!

Among my peer group in the mid '70's to mid '80's there were two distinct factions - the Dark Side of the Moon guys and the Wish you Were Here guys. Although both recognized the genius of both albums, you were in one camp or the other. Now that we're mature (:p ) we can listen to either with no debate. I was a DSotM guy, FTR. I also really like the older albums:

Ummugumma - "Astronomy Domine" and "Careful with that Axe Eugene"
Obscured by Clouds - "Wots...Uh the Deal?" "Stay"

I will not deny that there were outside, uh, influences helping me enjoy those albums/tracks in those days, but today they still get regular rotation in my playlist whether I'm partying or not and I enjoy them more than ever.

Morning Lodge

Goldy
Hows the shoulder doing?

Hurts, thanks. Disappointed after seeing the surgeon yesterday and hearing how long it will take and how little I can do with it. :( I take the sling off on July 12 and start PT. Can't handle more than a pound in that hand for a while. I guess 57 year old tendons don't heal real fast and none of us want them to have to go in and resuture the tendon.

JF, you could come out to Edina and join the Edina Soccer Club to watch the game on a big screen in the Community Center gym. They'll be selling pizza and pop and you can bring a lawn chair or blankets or sit in the bleachers. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

So I'm watching Tommy Boy for the first time. Pretty epic.
Best lines:
"What'd you do?" (at the gas station)
and
"No way that just happened!" (after the deer revived in the back seat)
I just love all their stuff. Even the kinda not known stuff (see: radio fan), like Atom Heart Mother and such. Unfortunately, I don't play it as much as I should anymore. All of Floyd was a constant rotation in college, so I kinda got burned out.
I remember the day I first heard a compact disc play, when I was in 8th grade (1983 or 1984). A buddy of mine played The Wall Part One from his brother's LP record, and then played the same tune on a compact disc. (They didn't call them CDs yet). It was amazing not to hear any crackling noises between songs, because even the cleanest records had white noise between tracks. I haven't thought about that for years.

Good morning, Lodge!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

It's nothing like gymnastics and figure skating. There is no underage girls for DL to oogle.

But there are some seriously hot men for Scarlet to get all hot and bothered over. :)

GE - my brother sent me a large envelope yesterday. Email me your address so I can forward what he said and make you a hero in the eyes of your daughter. At least for a little while!

So....one of my best friends, the one I go out with on Thursday nights, told me yesterday she has lymphoma. :( Or they're pretty confident she does. Today she's having a surgical biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. She noticed this lump on her neck/collarbone area about a month ago. It kind of came out of nowhere. Thankfully, everyone she's seen so far has told her if she has to get some kind of cancer, this is the best kind to get as its both treatable and curable. Needless to say, while she's trying to be upbeat and positive, it's freaking her out. I'm scared for her but am also positive that whatever treatment she gets will work. And if there is one time I need to not be Opposite Girl, this is it.

I am going to go see her tomorrow. She said right now she's just looking for company and support. I can do both. The news kinda threw off my day yesterday. I need to do all the stuff today that I should have done yesterday.

Thanks....email sent.

So sad about your friend & I know the feeling. A year ago (almost to the day) my sister-in-law went to the dentist & ended up in the hospital for 8 weeks. She had a tooth pulled, the bleeding wouldn't stop so they sent her to the doctor who did some tests and it turned out she had Leukemia and she was shipped off to United and started Chemo the next day. The good news: Two rounds of Chemo and a bone marrow transplant later she's doing wonderfully and whatever support you provide your friend will be appreciated!!

My peer group (many years after yours, old man) had a similar grouping. I was always a DSotM guy, too. Until college. Freshman year my girlfriend gave me Wish You Were Here as one of my birthday presents. She put it in her cd player and then gave me my other present. Good times. I have happy memories every time I hear that album, even though she turned out to be a crazy biznatch. ;)

I may have to listen to Floyd non-stop this weekend - it's been a while since I've had any of it in rotation. The wife isn't a Floyd fan - she's just not as enlightened as the rest of us. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Good morning tLodge! I get to spend one more day in NC after all.

Apparently even though I thought I was taking it easy with move (napping, drinking water, not doing much the last two days) my body did NOT agree with me. I started having contractions yesterday, which gave me a five hour stay in the hospital, 1.5 liters of fluid by IV and some medicine which makes my heart race, but calms the contractions. The baby is fine, but I can't do much more than sit around for the next five days. She did clear me for the ride back to Conn so we'll be doing that tomorrow. And since my work is from home on a computer, I can still work.

Scarlet - I am sorry to hear about your friend. I will keep her in my prayers.

Is that unusual?

I loved Floyd in high school and college. Had the HUGE Dark Side "Prism" poster on my wall, and nothing illicit in my system (hell, I barely ever drank).
I had the album centerfold from the same album (the one that is the picture of the moon) on my wall as a teenager and college student. Not a huge Floyd fan, but I do appreciate their music.

Yes, because there is so many sports options at 8 am. :p :D

ETA: If you don't like soccer/football, you are wrong. period. :)

I am ambivalent to soccer. I love football. :p
What Brent said.

I dated someone similar, with fond memories resulting. It's one of the reasons I am so fond of Alaska (aside: "Denali" is an anagram for "nailed"). She was also a biznatch, as it turned out, but not so crazy as insanely jealous with a slight inferiority complex. This I thought odd in a rather attractive girl.

I had the misfortune of being the first guy ever to break up with her (she usually took care of this part herself). You want to see rage?

I found out she's married now, with two sons (two and five), which is hard to envision. I should have ignored my curiosity on this point, though, so she could live on in my memory as that perfect picture of untamed feminine vigor.

Good call kid ;)

I've got "Stay" stuck in my head and don't have my iPod at work so the linked youtube collage with the song will have to do until I get home.
