Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Imagine a hockey game with 30 seconds of offense per period with the rest being offsides/icing/puck over the glass. That's pretty much what basketball is.
So, UMass-Amherst vs Merrimack circa 2002. Got it.

It's gone from a team game to a pieces game. Successful teams nowadays usually have the guy who drives the lane, and a big guy. That's it. Like a shell of Phil's triangle offense (which is brilliant, btw). And despite it being a non-contact sport, there's an awful lot of contact that is let go. It's sad.
If the Celtics won, I was going to update my FB status to "Why couldn't I be a basketball fan?" Yeah, don't have to now.

From the casual fan standpoint, if you were to take random people and force them to watch that game 7 vs. watching game 6 of the stanley cup finals, I can't imagine basketball retaining more interest than hockey.

I just can't bring myself to give a crap about the WWE/NBA. The games are just so boring. I suppose I'd rather watch it than soccer, but ... I'd rather watch linoleum curl than watch soccer.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Actually, it'd be better and have more flow if they let most of the ticky-tack stuff go. If it's an obvious foul that disrupts a shot or is intent to injure, fine call that.

If you want to know about NBA officiating, just think about what happened in college hockey immediately after the rule enforcement kicked into high gear: tons of whistles, lots of players taking penalties, and absolutely zero flow to games.

You also pretty much repeated my point about the selfishness angle of the game: 20 years ago, the stars were more team-oriented so the game had more of a pace to it / better offensive execution. Now you just have an endless series of isolation plays and me-first guys hurling up bricks.

What got me to notice was the Shaq Butt-check. Illegal years ago. Foul on the butt-checkee nowadays. Ticky tack stuff? Sure, let it go. But when a 7' 350 lb guy body checks you so he can actually hit his shot that is 2 feet from the basket? Call it. Goes beyond the "star" call.

And the "clear out everyone so I can drive the lane" move that happens 80% of the time......blech.

You were ogling shaq's posterior? :p

I think that rule change was part of the league's notorious history of giving certain players star treatment. It's as though the league has created a sidney crosby type on most of the teams and allows said player to do pretty much anything.

By the book, if a defender has planted his feet and has position, if an offensive player decides to move into him / knock him backwards, that's charging. :p

You forgot the "I'm not going to pass no matter what" move that leads to ugly off balance shots from 20 feet while facing a double team.

That's my point. They stopped calling that. It's BS. How do I know? That was a big part of my defensive arsenal in bouncyball (played through HS). Now, it's a defensive foul.

Vampires? Check.
Excessive nudity? Check.

Yay, late evening programming.

No. Free preview of True Blood.

Edited Goodfellas < unedited True Blood.

Plus I have seen that a bunch of times. I've never seen this.

But, but, it's Goodfellas. It's like Man Law or something.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

Man Law does not apply to edited movies.

It does to this one. It's that great. A big part is because it's "about 98% true" according to the real Henry Hill.

One of my fave quotes in an interview (paraphrased):

Interviewer: So, is that Spider thing true? Did Tommy really shoot him? Where is he buried?

HH: Yeah, Tommy shot him. He's buried in some backyard in Pennsylvania.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

No. Edited = no mandatory viewing.

Besides, some busty brunette is transforming into a reallllly *'d off demon thing...

... and then transformed back to human only to be gored by some dude who transformed into a bull and removed her heart.

Now go get your *ing shinebox! Yeah, yeah, come on, ya feelstrong!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 114: Who gives a...

No, Man Law requires you watch a movie with excessive female nudity over an edited version of a movie...

True Blood isn't a movie. So, fail. ;)

And I don't have whatever channel has True Blood, so strike two.

And strike three is, despite my support for a certain rule in college, and non-support of its execution, I'm a neanderthal chauvinist pig.

If it wasn't for title IX, the wnba would not exist.

Yes, I'm blaming title IX for that abortion.

I wasn't talking about you...I was talking about the Commie. All I was saying was he didn't violate Man Law...:p
