The point of outside financing is to eliminate the finance side completely from negotiations. The dealers are looking to get prospective buyers to focus on that subject to secure the sale and make money. As far as they're concerned, once you start talking about payments, you've already bought the car.

Tell that to the first salesman I talked to when I bought my Jeep. :p He started playing the "Let me run that by my manager" game, I said, no that's okay, I have a few other places to look at, but I may be back, and I walked.

Double: Just saying that if you get approved for 25K, but you can haggle to 22K or whatever, it's a little better.

I found the greatest book ever.
Creative Cursing: a mix and match profanity generator.
Excellent!

We have a planned outage today and the company is providing a sloppy joe lunch for everyone. :)
Oh, delicious!

Evening, Lodge. went to the library today, checked out a Chris Botti CD, plus a book called "Real Food" by Nina Planck. Between Planck, Michael Pollan, and the Weston A. Price Foundation, I'm now convinced I made the right choice in giving up the artificial junk I'd been eating...

So apparently I impressed the company I had a phone interview with Monday because they called this afternoon wanting to set up a plant interview for next Wednesday, get to spend another day in Houghton.

Finish packing tonight then I'm leaving for Houghton in the morning for a long weekend.

Jeez, first MNS, now you? I guess they'll hire ANYONE these days.

I'd advise you to test-drive other similar vehicles, even if you don't want a 4Runner, FJ or Xterra, and take your comparisons back to the Jeep dealer.

Aw hell no. That thing looks like a Hummer had sex with a refrigerator.

Is that the Toyota piece of crap that reminds me of a PlaySkool toy, with the bubbly tail lights? I wanna nuke every one of those pieces of crap.

I guess the job market really took off.

Incidentally, I heard my employer hired some chick for the evening shift. Nobody is giving me any details beyond that, though. *'ing coworkers.

I do believe so.

If you know me at all, you know I have kind of a naive, trusting, easygoing personality. Add to this the fact that I'm young, fresh out of college with a good job, a first time buyer, and pretty flush with cash. In other words, they're gonna see me coming from a mile away. How do I stop the salesman from taking me for a ride?
I used Edmunds back in 2000, and it was quite helpful. While they haven't any professional reviews on Wranglers, they will provide pricing information by zip code.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #112: Son of "Filling in for the night shift"

So, you're making the planes that Bro Gin flies and MNS directs?

I'm never flying again.
Unless the parts are going into Boeings or Airbuses, you're probably not going to be on any of the planes involving him.

Sloe Vag isn't a pilot for any of the majors, so again no risk involved.

The real problem is MNS working at MSP. I guess the solution there is to figure out his schedule and book a flight that departs / arrives when he isn't on duty. :p

shoulda let him and then walk... "say, well, thanks for conferring with your manager and I appreciate the offer but I need some time to grouse it over with the wife/girlfriend. Can I get your card in case I need to get back to you?"

If you have the power to walk you have the power to string the salesperson along too... you're dealing with two things... information and confidence. The only pressure is your own time... how soon do you need that car?

we all know that cars, similar to but not identical to houses, is a haggle game and a personality game. Yeah, they'll try to hit you another way... just part of the game.

edit: I remember a few months back where I ended up in a situation with somebody trying to tell me law insurance... when they whipped out the signing documents after trying to pitch me a sell (yeah... don't total up my insurance when i don't own a car and 3/4s of health/dental/vision are paid by the taxpayers and 11 per check dollars goes to federal life insurance)... I pushed the signing documents back in their direction... they weren't really ready for that... and they stalled around for arguments before I found a way to politely excuse myself. You don't have to play into anybody's games if you assume everything you hear is unverifiable crap... especially when you have a 100% out by walking away.
