Revere, Prescott, and Dawes were going to Concord after warning Lexington that "The Regulars were coming.", but were spotted by a British patrol. Revere was detained, and Dawes was sent back to Lexington. Samuel Prescott, for some reason, was allowed to go on his way. He then made the ride to Concord to warn the citizens of the troop movements. Revere was released the next day and walked back to Lexington, the British had kept his horse.

So, I guess our schools taught us that the midnight ride of Paul Revere is a bunch of hogwash. It makes for a better poem though, Revere is easier to rhyme than Prescott. :p

heh... for some reason that doesn't surprise me :p

I don't think our American history texts went over the Revere ride specifically... if anything its a good bit of lore... but then again the ride probably still sets the rest in motion.

Hey, what's that made-up holiday you have in Boston for next Monday? One of the guys I had lunch with today is running in the marathon and none of us could remember why it's on a Monday.

I want to go! I want to go SO BADLY!

@'ewe--re: twitter--it's not an exact recipe/process, and it was my first attempt. They wound up more like tortilla crackers, and I came thisclose to burning them, but it's a good start! I had those suckers slathered in so much salsa I couldn't taste much else anyway.
Newman's Own Mango Salsa. Delicious. I'm pretty much obsessed.

Have you folks never heard of Paul Revere's Ride by Longfellow? What do they teach you guys in school outside of New England???
In most school districts, they teach kids that being different is ok, but reading books about people who are different is verboten.

In Texas?

FOOTBALL!!!

Wow - sounds good. I'm about to preheat the oven to make some bread (my new obsession). It's so much cheaper! And after two successful attempts with all purpose flour, I'm trying my first loaf with 1/2 all purpose and 1/2 whole wheat flour. Got some hot pepper jelly from my mom when I saw her at Easter, so I'm looking forward to spreading that on some fresh bread.

Debating whether or not to have leftovers (the other piece of chicken stuffed with ricotta and spinach with polenta) or make something fresh. I don't have any protein defrosted though.

That sounds delicious. I am trying to find this raspberry pepper jelly that I heard was just the greatest. I cannot find it anywhere including the store they bought it at. All this talking about food makes me want to start baking and cooking more often.

My aunt makes the pepper jelly and gives it to her siblings as part of a larger Christmas basket every year. My mom doesn't eat a lot of it, so she keeps giving it to me...which is just fine. I probably should just ask my aunt for the recipe one of these days.

The bread is wicked easy - no kneading at all. Recipe here (Mark Bittman's recipe posted on a friend of mine's blog). Takes time, but is way cheaper and tastier than store stuff.

If you want to try more cooking stuff - check out the USCHO Cooks threads (there's at least 2). Good recipes, plenty of advice, interesting ideas. Feel free to shoot me an email too. :)

I've found that whole wheat flour doesn't develop gluten that well, and you might need to move to bread flour instead of AP.

I really should too...

...as I enjoy a slice of takeout pizza. :o

I'm not buying yet another kind of flour (have cake, AP, and whole wheat) - I'll just go back to all AP if this loaf isn't good.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

Just finished dinner. Didn't get home till 7pm. Work has been so ridiculously busy lately. Made the pork chops I had taken out for last night. Should have made them last night as I got home earlier. I hate eating dinner after 7:30. I thought I had emailed a spreadsheet home so I could do some work while watching TV. Not sure what I did but I never got it. But I'm not complaining as I'm really not in the mood to do work.

Tomorrow is Thursday. I don't care how much work I have. I'm leaving at 5pm. Because it's Thursday. And I want a martini.

I have an awesome whole wheat flour recipe that has molasses in it from King Arthur. I bake it every Easter and serve it with maple butter. Been baking it for about 20 yrs. Every yr I think- I should make this more often and then bake it the next yr. Too tired to post it. Email me if interested.

Evening Lodge.

Anchorage was the proud recipient of 6 to 10 inches of global warming today. Oddly, the temperature held, so the roads are a bit wet but otherwise fine.

Even the freak spring blizzards are friendlier here :p

I can't seem to convince any of my friends to be sick tomorrow and go to the Twins game. I could look inward at something I could be doing wrong, thus making them not want to hang out with me, or I could just say that I need new friends.

Guess which one I am going to run with.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

We celebrate it in Maine, too. :p

Patriots' Day commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord, the start of the American Revolution. The fact that you don't celebrate it just shows that you hate America. :D

The "made up holiday" you really want to learn about is "Evacuation Day"... and then you'll realize why I consider Massachusetts to a nicer shinier hell hole.

Is that the day that commemorates the evacuations following the discovery of the ATHF IEDs? :D

Hi, Lodge. I am the most spoiled person in the entire world. My grandma bought me a car today. That's all, k bye.
