Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

I've been working nightshift for six years now. I have a couple opportunities to switch to dayshift - the first one I just applied for within the past week, and if I don't get that, I'll have another chance coming up soon. If neither pans out, I don't know what I'll do - probably continue on in my present mind-numbing / body-destroying capacity, I guess.

I hear ya. I was right about to apply for medical unemployment because my body could not take it anymore, which you can do in MN, when I got my job at the St. Cloud Times and we all know how that panned out.

Gaining a husband and a relocation to wisconsin is a raw deal, that's for sure. :p

At least the money on this shift is good (that's probably the ONLY thing that's good).

I've had scotch exactly once. Generous friend, who is a "scotch & cigar" guy, let me try some (neat) once. Don't remember the brand (it was pricey, trust me - friend has good taste), but I recall thinking it was quite bitter and "smoky", and immediately understood why people paired it with cigars (mind you, I'm not a smoker and never will be).

One of these days, I will get around to trying some again.

Smoky is a definite trait. And for the record I haven't had a cigar in about 5-6 years, so smoothness is a factor.

The last good scotch I had was a Balvenie 15YO, it was gold. Before that it was the Balvenie 21 (IIRC, I know it was at least 20YO), and that was the best I ever had.

We're talking half to 3/4 a glass on the rocks lasted 90 minutes, easily. You wanted to taste it, savor it, make it last, take it all in, etc. And I didn't smoke at all during this drink.

I think you'd appreciate a good scotch. IMO, Johnny (except for Blue) is on par with Seagram's 7 for whiskey. ;)

FYP

The money was great, but physical and mental health is more important. Wait...what mental health do I have?

I know I don't have any. Physically, I get sick rarely. I'll get a minor cold once or twice a year at the most, and that's basically it. However, I'm tired/zombified most of the time, so there's that.

With the tired/zombified you can qualify for medical leave because it affects your health.

Part of me hopes I develop some sort of fatal health complication and die before I reach 50 anyway, so who cares?

Plus medical leave wouldn't address the underlying cause.

With that spirit, I think you are related to my husband's family. :o

You've had Blue? My best store (about 25 mins away, where I buy most of my premo liquor) has the standard 'briefcases' of that and they're $270. Honestly, even if I were a rich man, I would not spend that kind of money on alcohol.

I'll back Commie on this one. I think he has like 4 friends, maybe. He's rather demented. And zombified. And *ed up.
I like to keep the number manageable. I get along well with some people at work, but I wouldn't call them friends. They're just people I don't have an urge to strangle while I'm there.
