I've never heard it either. Then again, I've never been too big on drinking due to the horrid hangovers / barfing.

Drinking: you're doing it wrong.

Burned: mixing it strong enough to taste the booze, no matter the mix. Most common is a whiskey and cola, as cola reallllllly masks the taste of the booze. Second would be the Sprite/7Up type of mixer.

There's no "right" in my case. Anything past tipsy and I'm dealing with a nasty headache/gut rot the next day.

As for the burn, that sounds like how I mixed my captain and cokes in the distant past - half rum, half coke. After a couple of those, I couldn't taste anything.

Captain and Cokes just enhance the flavor of Coke and, imo, makes it taste better.

This is also coming from the same person that drinks beer as the only carbonated beverage. I gave up drinking soda 2 years ago.

I drink mt dew for the same reason most people drink coffee (caffeine). If I could find a way to like the taste of coffee, I'd drink that instead since it's probably healthier. Oh well.

That would be "burned." And as for your hangover/gutrot condition, I am truly sorry.

You could try flavored coffee. Some of it doesn't taste like coffee at all (see: Irish cream, raspberries and cream, caramel mocha, etc).

Use a lot of Vanilla Creamer or Hazelnut Creamer or whatever flavor you like. If it is really crappy coffee only. Good coffee you should not use any of the creamers, just a little sugar at most. I recommend Folger's Gourmet Roast Dark.

I guess it's a mixed blessing since it guarantees I'll never become a problem drinker.

Worst drink mix experience ever: bacardi and mt dew. Horrible on so many levels. Apparently I said very strange things (even for me) after that and barfed off a friend's 3rd floor balcony.

And coffee has two strikes against it: I don't like the flavor and I don't like hot beverages. Heat relaxes me, and that's the exact OPPOSITE reason for drinking a beverage with caffeine in it.

Rum and Dew.....yeah, who couldn't see THAT coming?

As for LB's creamer advice, she's right. Softer flavors to mask the coffee taste, I guess.

You did pretty well with the LI Jeff's. And the whiskey.....

1) Malibu and Mt. Dew
2) Try drinking coffee iced. This is also including the flavored coffee creamers.

I feel the same way about bourbon & Coke, though I am starting to get into whiskey on the rocks. IMO, bourbon (cheap to mid-range) completes Coke and makes it a whole 'nother beverage. I think it's because bourbon (and moreso rye) cuts through Coke's sweetness and makes a bittersweet drink.

Though I'm starting to get into whiskey on the rocks. It's taken two years (on and off, as I'm a beer guy first and foremost), but I'm finally able to appreciate it.

I knew it'd be bad. I wasn't quite sure how bad, and my friend wasn't either. So I just said **** it and drank it. Bad decision to be sure, but I was in my early 20s, and people are idiots in their early 20s.

The closest thing to acceptable I've had in the coffee side of things is a mocha frap - but those are *'ing expensive (5x costlier than mt dew on a per-drink basis).

Mainly because I didn't have too many. However, in houghton I went one drink over the line (didn't get to the puke stage, but I definitely got to the sort-of-nauseated stage).

I am a beer gal myself. Do you like scotch? If it wasn't for the price of a bottle ($45-50 12 year only) the McCallan is a great single malt scotch.

On the rocks rules. I'm a sipper guy when it comes to whiskey, and a good whiskey (1.5 shots per cube or so) is heavenly. This will also carry over to bourbon (obviously) and scotch (the good ones are more expensive and tastier, so * the mixing).

I'll tell you right now, a great cigar, a nice sipper, and some ambiance (campfire, national landmark, a fine night on the town with good friends [special occasion like a birthday/wedding/etc], etc) will enhance this.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #109: It's the Offseason, now what?

Ideally if I go to day shift, I won't need caffeine anymore. I'm only drinking it now because it's the only ****ing way to make it through a night shift without getting seriously drowsy.

*, I still need it, although I've cut back on the Monster from 4-5 days a week to 2-3 at most.

I do have to admit, when I was out of work for most of that week (a couple weeks ago) I almost weaned myself off of caffeine. Didn't need it. But when it came down to it when I returned to work, oh hell ya I needed that *.

How long have you been working the graveyard shift?

When I worked the graveyard 2 years ago, I needed a lot of caffeine for the first few months and then I just didn't need it. Then I quit that position and then I needed caffeine to transition to afternoon/evening shift of noon-8.

I've had scotch exactly once. Generous friend, who is a "scotch & cigar" guy, let me try some (neat) once. Don't remember the brand (it was pricey, trust me - friend has good taste), but I recall thinking it was quite bitter and "smoky", and immediately understood why people paired it with cigars (mind you, I'm not a smoker and never will be).

One of these days, I will get around to trying some again.

I'm liking the honey whiskey with Sprite. The honey and lemon-lime go together very well...
