And if you crashed into a Vespa scooter, your car is probably totalled. :p
They also didn't believe me that if they got a fully electric car, they would still be burning fossil fuels. Hey guys, where the hell do you think that electricity that comes from your electrical outlet come from? The magic electron fairy?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

Don't get me started on SmartCars. They are epically stupid. Hey buddy, you do realize that a '95 Saturn gets better mileage than your dumb SmartCar, right? Not so smart now, huh?

Not defending them, but they're not meant for gas savings (I don't think). It's more the convenience for people living in the city where parking is a pain and you don't drive long distances or need it for moving much stuff - cheap, covered, slightly bigger than a vespa. Basically, if you just pop to the grocery store on a weekly basis or drive across town to work. They're huge in Europe for that reason - the lack of parking in most old European cities makes them very practical.

"That's why we gotta go totally solar & wind, man!"

For that situation they do make sense. The people that I've seen/met around here with them don't have them for that reason though. They have them because they think they're saving the earth because of the great mileage they get, when that isn't really the case.

Tell them to go find an old Geo Metro instead. Didn't those things and their three whole cylinders get a little over 50 mpg on the highways back in the day?

Yep. They are the ones who are basically faux-hippies.

Yep, they did. You can probably get one for about $500 now. :p

Ah - I'm 99% sure the reason they were initially introduced here is for city-living. *shrug* I don't own a car, so I can't really participate in the conversation. Not because I'm a treehugger, but I don't have the money (being a student) and I don't need one thanks to the decent public transportation in Boston. I do use Zipcar when I really need a car.

Also - not related - enjoying my first Kelly's Roast Beef sandwich of the season (last one was in October, 2009. I try not to eat them during the winter because I don't do enough physical activity to work them off). :D Small roast beef with cheese, horseradish sauce, bbq sauce, and grilled onions. Vanilla frappe (milkshake for everyone outside of Mass.). Happy place.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

I'm a big fan of the chocolate eclairs from those ice cream trucks.

Hammer - what's the weather look like for the FF. I'm doing laundry and packing tonight.

It's going to be nice, temp-wise, until Wednesday (70's to low 80's) and then the bottom is supposed to drop out. At the moment, high of 50 on Thursday and 49 on Friday. Coin flip's chance of rain both days. It might get better on Saturday (mid-50's), and it won't get nice again until Sunday.

Speaking of train wrecks, Steven Tyler is going to...sing..."God Bless America" during the seventh inning stretch.

I'm not watching that game, because I hate the whole Red Sox-Yankees orgasm that ESPN promotes, but this might be worth checking out.

Jealous!!!!! ::shakes fist at sky:: I'm assuming you went to the one on Revere Beach and not the one across the street from me. I plan to get dinner there on Tuesday. Easter is over, I can't wait to go there!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

Dear step family: (my grandpa remarried after my grandma passed, now some of his new wife's family come to family gatherings)
You might want to think twice before coming to farm country and *****ing about everyone driving trucks, while you brag about your ****ing Prius's 50 mpg. We don't care. When you come from the city to where people actually work you should realize that on the farm it is necessary to have trucks to, you know, pull and haul huge loads.

Thank You,
bigblue_dl
Tell them 1) you know that when you step on the brakes, you know your ride will stop and 2) you'll be able to walk away if you hit something. Tell me again about that 50 mpg from the wheelchair after they've scraped your vertebrae out of the glove box.

They also didn't believe me that if they got a fully electric car, they would still be burning fossil fuels. Hey guys, where the hell do you think that electricity that comes from your electrical outlet come from? The magic electron fairy?
Silly farmer. The electricity comes from unicorns. Just like the food comes from the stores and not the farm.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

BBDL - you should tell them your trucks and tractors are zero emission vehicles because they derive their power by consuming the souls of hippies.
