Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 105: 2010 Assessment

It's pretty much finalized now so I will share the fabulous news I got on Wednesday.

The State offered me the max salary for the Senior Engineering position I applied for. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's still an 8% pay cut from the job I used to have but it's become more and more unlikely with the major delays to the two projects I was suppose to be working on that I would be brought back after the 5 week company convenience leave of absence (which is basically just a fancy way of putting me on unpaid status) they put me on 2 weeks ago ended.

So with the economic situation and especially the engineering situation in the Twin Cities being offered the max salary by the State for the position I applied for is definitely fabulous news even if it is a 8% pay cut.
Congrats!!! Drinks on CHA!!!! :D

I lol'd when I saw your reply to our friend CHA, but after reading his rep to me apparently he's in to furries

:p :D

Having meet you I figured you could help me meet the cool Muppets like Fozzie Bear. It's a shame that when I finally met a Muppet it was a second class Muppet in Gonzo. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 105: 2010 Assessment

My NMUBaseball website was hacked a few weeks back, and I finally had a chance to clean it up and get it back working right. Luckily the hacker was apparently lazy and only changed files named "index.*"

After updating all the index pages (thank you Archive.org for rescuing the Newbie guide main page), I just wanted to mention that just in time for the playoffs the USCHO Newbie Guide has a somewhat easier URL.

http://newbie.nmubaseball.net

it redirects to the hosted page at:
http://www.nmubaseball.net/uscho/newbie/

If you think n00b would be a more apt short url name, let me know. :D

You're putting up the new newbie guide just in time...

Congrats on the 8% pay cut!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 105: 2010 Assessment

Good news CHA!

Oh to have a state pension on which to retire..... ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 105: 2010 Assessment

Congrats CHA!

So the 8% paycut doesn't sound great (but max salary does). And if you're working for the state, it's probably 20% less work...right? Seems to even out.

Today is one of those days where I was reading a thread and wanted to call someone out for being an idiot, but realized it would just encourage them. Thus, I did not respond. So difficult.

Say CHA, do you need to buy your own shovel to lean on or is it supplied to you? :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 105: 2010 Assessment

my love/hate relationship with LaTeX continues... blargh

I've been constructing a slide format all day long... for those of you don't know, LaTeX is basically taking your word processor and stripping it back to all its ugly code parts. The last stumbling block is my inability to work with the coordinate/scale system for a background image I'm trying to insert.

Monday I actually edit the content of my slides... but that should probably be about an hour. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 105: 2010 Assessment

Congrats! Hope you stick with the State long enough to make the rest of these mooches pay for your pension. :D

Glad you were able to make it work out, even with the (slight) change in income.

Awesome news.

Congrats CHA! :)

Cue the dancing girls for CHA!

Congrats!

Good for you CHA!

Congrats! :)

Glad to hear you will still have a decent job.

Good sh-t CHA - congrats!

Congrats, CHA!

Congrats!!! Drinks on CHA!!!! :D

Congrats CHA! We'll send Puckman over to give you a congratulatory hug. Or a punch. ;)

Great news, CHA! :)

Congrats on the 8% pay cut!

Thank you everybody.

The fact that I'm really happy about an offer that involves an 8% pay cut I think gives a pretty good indictation of how bad things are right now in terms of engineering options in the Twin Cities. It's been this way for the last 3 years which unfortunately was basically the same time the private engineering firm I worked for was bought out by a much larger engineering firm that looks at things a lot differently. For the last three years I've really had no option other then to work in other cities or risk being unemployed. And then I get only one day of notice before being put on unpaid status. When I asked about this the response I got was well you can collect unemployed. My thought thanks.

Unemployeement for me is a 60% pay cut and last time I checked my house payment and the rest of my bills aren't going to go down by 60% over night so it might be nice to get more then one day of notice so I can start planning and make adjustments.

Employers like employees to give atleast two weeks notices when leaving but I guess the opposite isn't important.

Oh well what's done is done. On the postive side sometimes it pays off to not except the first offer and try to get what you feel you deserve which is what happen with the state. :)

In laptop news, the pixels seem to be healing? I don't know if that's possible, but the damage doesn't look as bad today. Definitely a desktop from now on, but better...

Since you live in cityslickerville I bet you could find a Fozzie Bear blow up doll for him quite easily. Hell, there is probably one for sale on every street corner. ;)

You already bought it for him. ;)

I realize the two of you are joking but having worked for the state and for multiple private engineers firms I learned a lot more while working for the state. The reason is they suport training their employees while private engineering firms often don't support training because in the short term it costs money.
