Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 102: Hockey Sucks!!!

What kills me is that I'll never leave this team. Much like an abused girlfriend/wife, I'm there until the end. There's no "Burning Bed" in my future:eek: :o

While I love goalies to a fault, but realize the Hobey chances and act accordingly, Chevy deserves it. Honestly.

When I talk with my pals about "legitimate" candidates from this year's Denver team for the Hobey Baker Award, the first name I hear is Rhett Rakhshani.

He's a terrific captain. Scores goals. Makes plays which lead to assists. Plays on the power play. Stays out of the penalty box. He has had, and is continuing to have, a fine season.

Having said that let me add my own opinion is that Marc Cheverie is the main reason Denver continues to enjoy a successful season. I have no idea if he'll be among the ten nominees, let alone the three finalists, for the award. Denver would not be in its present position without Marc Cheverie's play in goal, period.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 102: Hockey Sucks!!!

I think Denver would be 4th-5th in the league with a merely above average goalie. Cheverie is probably worth 10 points in the standings.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 102: Hockey Sucks!!!

If Denver plays the way it did tonight over the course of the remainder of the season the Pioneers could author a memorable finish to their season. I'll be interested to see if Denver maintains purpose and focus next weekend when Michigan Tech comes to town. The Huskies are having a tough three decades, but Denver cannot afford to let complacency creep into its lockerroom at this point in the season.

Fixed. :p

The Oakland/Buffalo club game was entertaining. Buffalo's coach was ejected for going on a tirade about 15 minutes into the 1st period, then apparently tried to pull a Gwoz and go back into the locker room during the intermission, earning himself another DQ. I was behind the scorer's table with mel & HuskyNation, and got to be in the middle of some cross-penalty bench jawing.

Oh, and this was the most lopsided hockey game I've ever attended, as Oakland won 13-0.

The bolded part is why I say Hobey. Otherwise, I see your point. It seems the Commie agrees.

Clearly you've never been to an Adrian game, especially when they're paying one of the weaker members of their conference. ;)

The two biggest differences I noticed between D1 club & D1 NCAA were, first and foremost, the goaltending. Buffalo's goalies let in A LOT of goals I'd consider soft. OU's goalie was never seriously tested, so I can't really comment there, but he did at least seem to be in better control of the few shots he had to save.

Secondly, the puck handling. There seemed to be a lot more flubbed keep-in attempts at the blue line by both teams. The passing was not as crisp.

They did have a nice little Senior Night ceremony though, as it was the last home game of the year. Overall, it wasn't a bad way to get a hockey fix. I'd go to a few more games next season, especially ones against other Michigan foes like CMU and UM-Dearborn.

am I the only happy hockey fan?

Don't worry, next weekend I'll be sending out vulgar texts again.

Nope. :)

My niece is here. Took her to the game last night. BU is 6-0-1 with her in attendance. I'm trying to see if she will blow off her friends who are taking her out for her 16th birthday next week to come to the Providence game. We're off to breakfast!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 102: Hockey Sucks!!!

There's still lots of hockey left in the season and as Denver fan I have reason to be optimistic about the team's chances in the postseason. :)

Pffft.

Last week PU played UND and then this past weekend there was U of MN. I think you should start a petition and get PU enrolled in the ten step program that CSA offers. (Cupcake Schedule Anonymous) :D :p

Hey Schedule Boy, Last week Denver played Mercyhurst and Air Force. Get it right. The Pioneers, of course, swept.

Nice to see the BSU Beaver Cleavers lose again to Bob B. Morris. You must be very proud.
