Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 100: This Poll Sucks

A little hockey talk.

It's been a tough week for the men's U. S. Olympic hockey team. Defenseman Paul Martin [currently of the New jersey Devils and formerly of U Minn] broke his forearm earlier in the season. It has been slow to heal. He and/or the U.S. team announced earlier this week he will not play in Vancouver.

In this morning's paper I read that defenseman Mike Komisarek [currently of the Toronto Maple Leafs and formerly of U Mich] will have shoulder surgery and miss the games in Vancouver and the remainder of the NHL season. That means the U.S. will need to replace two defensemen on its Olympic squad.

Before the squad was named last month I read a few articles speculating as to what players would be named to the U.S. squad. One player named--but who did not make the initial squad--was Matt Carle[currently of the Philadelphia Flyers and formerly of Denver and a Hobey Baker winner]. Perhaps he'll be named as a replacement for either Martin or Komisarek.

Carle and Martin play similar games in that both are more gifted in terms of moving the puck and carrying the puck rather than dishing out ppunishing bodychecks. Komisarek on the other hand is a physically imposing defenseman. My own thought is that it will be more difficult to replace Komisarek than Martin. If Carle is named to the U.S. squad he would join former Denver teammate Paul Stastny.

Tough break for the U.S. squad having to replace two defensemen at this late date.

Agreed, and Carle seems a good choice, I like his game.

Regarding mid-atlantic snows. It's tough to drive when the drivers have no clue how to drive in snow and the states/cities/counties have about two snow plows between them. When I lived in Maryland, the DC metro area got a snow fall of over 20". The beltway was closed with abandoned cars scattered about - made it hard for the few plows to clear it.

First time it snowed while I lived there it was a dusting to half an inch. I happened to need something from the grocery. I could not believe what a cluster**** the roads were for the 3/4 mile to the store. Then I got there and the milk, bread and toilet paper were all gone. Everyone thought they'd be snowbound for a week with that little dusting.

Speculation, at this point, is Whitney and Gleason to replace them. The US management is having a conference call today to name the replacements.

Edit: Whitney officially named replacement for Martin, and Gleason for Komisarek. Those were some of the worst kept secrets.

I just checked my balance and my tax refund was deposited this morning. That was quick.

I would like to join Hammer in this experiment. I think I would have a great time getting paid to do nothing...
Well, its not like any of us would do nothing if we didn't have to work. I'm sure we'd all sit around and drink and watch hockey.

Being paid to do nothing isn't all it's cracked up to be... ;) :(

I am actually not much of a drinker.
A drunk post from Ralph might just kill the board!

Can't wait to see the Big Red slap around the Skating Deerticks on national television tomorrow night.
Note to self: ignore DisplacedCornellian for the next 36 hours or so. :p

Someday someone will have to explain to me where the Deerticks came from... nobody I've talked to knows (or they're just not telling).

I think I would have a great time getting paid to do nothing...
I'm told you already know what that's like with your current job! :p

Hi, Lodge!

Apparently, I've gone down a pants size so far this year. :o

Down with pants!

A guy who I've seen in the skyway in a Vermont sweater was at Taco John's today and we both left at the same time. Turns out he went there and follows college hockey. Didn't ask him if posts here though.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 100: This Poll Sucks

One of my brothers, and his family, are in Vail for a ski vacation for the next several days. Later this afternoon my wife and I are heading to ski country to join the fun for the next four days. I hope everyone has a good weekend and gets to see his or her favorite team in action.

The Pioneers step out of conference play over the weekend to play Mercyhurst at home on Friday before heading to the academy to play Air Force on Saturday night.

After last weekend's impressive sweep of North Dakota in Grand Forks the Pioneers need to keep their focus against the Lakers and Falcons so they won't lose any ground in the PWR. I've read nothing about tomorrow's lineup for Denver, but I think it's possible goalie Adam Murray--who hasn't played since a most unimpressive outing in Alaska--may get a start in place of Marc Cheverie. Pure speculation on my part is that Murray's two best chances to start in goal for Denver are tomorrow evening and then perhaps one game later this month when Michigan Tech comes to Magness Arena.

Happy weekend to LODGEONIANS one and all. See you next week. And that even goes for chowderheads who root for the QTips and Big Midget State. ;)
