Re: Rep Retirement #151: Stop Letting Baukin make polls!

Good morning Lodge.

My commute is about 6 miles one way. Takes about 10 minutes or so.

My last name is Anderson. When my great grandfather came over from Sweden he was so upset by the homeland that he changed the family name from Andersen to Anderson.

When I got my confirmation email back from the hotel I'm staying at in Sweden, they took the liberty of changing my last name to what I'm assuming is the actual correct spelling, by replacing an "o" with that "o" with 2 little dots above it.

edit: Here's the sweet hotel I get to stay in for 2 weeks: http://www.piteastadshotell.com/

That is possible. That or the lackey at the front desk just made a typo. Just remember that if you're over there on one of the Swedish computers, you're likely not going to be dealing with a standard English QWRTY keyboard. Its probably going to be different.

Also, if it does turn out that the Ummalet is the original spelling, you might want to change it back. I had a roommate from Sweden from a semester and I had let him borrow my car one day to go run an errand he had to go do, and he got pulled over for speeding. He pretty much got out of it with just a warning because the cop couldn't put his name in correctly in his computer.

It is good thing that someone a few years ago invented this wonderful invention called a laptop computer, so I can bring my American made Lenovo, with its American keyboard with me, and it fits in my carry-on bag.

closed circuit to MNS: For the weekend, would it work for you to meet at the Holiday gas station at the Concord exit of Hwy 52, just south of where Hwy 52 and Hwy55 come together, at 5:30 on Friday? We will have to drive separate, since I'll be going straight to the airport and leaving my truck at my parents house on Sunday. I will drive there right after work, and then we can continue on after that. I'll probably stop at my parents place quick, and then we can head to the party/concert.

We were Emmanuelsson but my GGgrandfather changed it so it wasn't so Semetic (this is what the Swedish side wrote me)/ Andersen would be Norwegian. Son is Swedish.

I'm not a "son", I'm a "strom". :p

Re: Rep Retirement #151: Stop Letting Baukin make polls!

Job interview went well! :) Pretty much said I have the job, pending references. Not too worried about those. The hours are not ideal (some overnights and probably at least some weekends), but the money should be better and the experience should be better. (Especially on the overnights as 6am seems to be the witching hour for heart attacks...)

Edit - I wish I knew our original last name on my dad's side. When my great-grandparents came over from Russia, they didn't speak any English, so the immigration office gave them a German last name related to their pink cheeks and smiling faces (as the family story goes). Gut--Herz = good heart. Unfortunately, without knowing the original last name, it's hard to do any sort of genealogical research.

Maybe you're a lost Romanov.

Well now you're just being foolish.

If you can find out the boat you might be able to get back further.

Well, that's good news. And congrats to wT as well.

My commute? I live 4.5 miles from the office. If I drive on a weekend or not a regular workday, I've made it here in 12 minutes. Drove in once on a rainy Friday - took close to an hour. I take the T. Walk to station is about 7-10 minutes. Actual time on subway - 15 minutes or so. Walk to office - about 5 minutes. that doesn't account for actually waiting for the train to show up, which could be 2 minutes. Or 7-10. Depends on the T's mood that day. T fare just went up. They deduct from my paycheck, pre-tax. Was $59/month, it's now $70.

We're in the homestretch now with our planning for the 100th Anniversary. Cross your fingers I make it through!!! It's going to be a crazy 10 days or so.

Re: Rep Retirement #151: Stop Letting Baukin make polls!

Actually, I realized I misspoke. There is no way in hell that this Lenovo is American made, but it is Americanized. :p

Reminds me a person I knew a while back. Her name was Mona Lisa. She was Korean. When she was born the doctor or nurse asked the new father what the name of his daughter was going to be. He didn't speak english. His intent was to name her Melissa but the hospital staff interpreted his intent as Mona Lisa and not Melissa. :)

Yikes!

Job offered and accepted with a small raise (plus, I hope, a shift differential). WOO!! :D

Congrats, wT! Very exciting to have a better work environment AND a much shorter commute.

Only 3 more days until the tiny little town back home, population 300, has a huge party and street dance where they actually get a pretty big named country star to perform, Craig Morgan this year. Its going to be crazy. Brent, you coming down for the shindig? :p
