Re: Rep Lodge Thread 89: As The Holidays Approach

As long as you don't forget to wear "BSU" green and white and bring a broom to overratednhldraftpickswhohaveacoachwithbadhairucci arena I am ok with being kicked off it. :p

For the record, you don't have to wave the broom. hoven already said he would do that. ;)

Like I said to you, I'll have G&W (but Kelley Green, not the hunter green of the Beavs) on earlier on Saturday as my kid plays out in Brunsville in the afternoon, but I'll change to M&G for Mass and the Gopher game later.

The other goldy who wears the costume will bring the broom on Sunday. :)

Re: Rep Lodge Thread 89: As The Holidays Approach

Actually, I think I read somewhere that it'll still be the Final Five, and will continue to have five games, but there will no longer be a third place game.

That would be fine with me as I see no reason to include eleventh and twelfth place teams in a post-season conference tournament after having played poorly over the course of a 25-30 game regular season schedule. I see the regular season as an arena in which a team should have to earn its way to any sort of post-season play. I have never favored a format in which every team in a conference/league is automatically included in a post-season event. If the league wants to include each team in the reveneues generated by the Final Five/Final Six games of a conference tournament, so be it. I favor a format in which teams EARN their way into a post-season event rather than having a bid automatically extended to it.

Wow, I'm forced to agree. I could never understand why the auto-bid goes to the winner of the conference tournament. I think it should go to the regular season champ. Of course, then there would be no reason to have the tournament. What? Oh yeah, money.

Actually, all the conferences got to pick who got their auto-bid. All chose the play-off champ since that gives them a better chance to put two (or more) teams in the dance (they assume the regular season champ will get a pairwise bid).

But when you say "sucks" I'm sure you mean that in only the most supportive, they're-not-really-the-equivalent-of-dog-vomit kinda way. :D

Oh I mean it in a dog vomit kind of way:D Ask CHA he saw it, its freakin awful to watch

Got it. Does this decision go back before Pairwise came in to play?

Re: Rep Lodge Thread 89: As The Holidays Approach

Target's Black Friday sales flier was leaked. Bargains include $3 appliances, gift cards for purchases $100 or more...and 32" HDTVs for $246...
As a reminder...you can't get a price adjustment if you buy these items before the 2-day ad starts, and you won't be able to return and re-buy without the item being available on the floor. :)

That's all fine and good, but which movies will be $4 and which TV seasons can I get for $12-16? I may be a Black Friday morning regular at Target for the reason of expanding my DVD collection.

If I wasn't going home to Maryland, I'd be shopping for a nice new big tv that day. However, since I'm carpooling down to the East Coast, it will limit my shopping.
We have copies of the ad, but can't let people see them until Thursday. Not sure if Priceless' info is accurate (leaks have happened before that have turned out to be wrong).

And you may want to visit this thread and calm some of your fellow BSU fans down. Happy is staying sharp for the next MN/UND series using the BSU noobs as his whet stone :D
What does he use for bait? My guess is Natty Ice...

All 12 teams will make the postseason. The Final Five now refers to the final five games before the NCAA's rather then the final five teams in the post season tourney. I agree with you that it should stay the way it was with the #11 and #12 teams not making the post season...

I think CC won the league one year and didn't get a bid to the NCAA's...

Is that the year tTech knocked off CC in the first round and eventually lost to a Mike Guentzel* led MN team in the FF finals in Milwaukee?

*see "Woog, Doug", water bottle suspension.
Tech almost pulled that off several years ago, before I started school there. It was when Sertich was the coach, they were the 10th team, they knocked off #1 then made a run at the final 5, I believe they lost in the championship game, 1 win away from getting an autobid.
What's with all this hockey talk in the Lodge???? What do you people think this is, a hockey board???? :p :D

I agree, but why not just take the top 8 and avoid the strange F5 pairings?

That win knocked that #1 CC team out of the NCAAs. The WCHA then added a rule that the regular season winner also got an autobid, which became known as the "CC Rule."

And that would have been Bob Mancini, I believe.

ECB, I'm with you on taking just the top eight teams. My own preference goes even further. Frankly in a 12 team league [such as the WCHA will become] I favor taking only the top six teams. The teams finishing first and second in the regular season standings would receive first round byes in the conference tournament.

The third place regular season finisher would play the sixth place finisher. The fourth place team would play the fifth place team. The two winners from this group of four would advance to the semi-finals with the first and second place finishers from the regular season.

The regular season winner would play the lower seed of the two first round winners. The second place regular season finisher would play the remaining team. The winners from these two games would meet for the post-season conference title. I have no strong feeling either for or against a third-place game being played.

I'm strongly in favor of making the regular season an arena in which teams must EARN their way into a post-season, conference tournament berth. In my mind extending post-season berths to conference tourneys to every team in a league does nothing but cheapen the value of having played well all season, while rewarding teams which have no business being in a tournament field.

If any conference wants to distribute tournament revenues among all its members--whether they qualify for the post-season tournament or not--it makes no difference to me. Again, I am opposed to every team in any league/conference automatically receiving a berth in a conference's post-season tournament. The WCHA [or any other conference] isn't "little league" hockey wherein everybody goes out for pizza slices and pepsi at the end of the season. It's division 1 college athletics. The opportunity to extend your season needs to be earned through compiling a superior record through the four or five month regular season.... not merely by "catching fire" in a two week post-season conference tourney.

Last Sunday's roasted turkey breast turned into tonight's creamy turkey wild rice soup. Mmmmmm, mmmmmm, good. :)

EDIT: Watching the Wild-Caps game, forgot how annoying Cap's announcer guy can be.

It's just a coincidence that Denver lost an NCAA bid twice because of losses to lower-seeded teams in opening round of the WCHA tournament.

Re: Rep Lodge Thread 89: As The Holidays Approach

I like Volpe! It's got a very...down home feel. Plus, nowhere else in HE are you so close to the players, ice, bench...
My favorite rink. evah!
Good morning Lodge.

I won't be able to make it to cityslickerville to watch the BSU/mn series. (Mrs. g's aunt passed away earlier this week from a long batter with c and the service will be tomorrow afternoon.) I think this should be an entertaining series though. BSU has a shot of making a statement this weekend against a mn team that has yet to find themselves. However, if BSU doesn't take care of business they might regret poking the bear. Thanks to those of you who emailed me or repped me to offer tix.

It was nice to sleep in my own bed last night. It has been a very productive week but a long one at that and I am fried. I can't wait to dig into the 30 voicemails and the 421 emails I have waiting for me. :(
:(

We went to a really sad wake last night. We've lived on our house for 17+ years and one of our neighbors moved in around the same time, really nice family & I've spent many a night & early morning solving life's problems on their deck. John's dad died about 5 years ago, his mom died in August; John went to pick up his brother (only sibling) last Friday for their annual deer hunting trip and found him dead in bed. I can't imagine losing my family at such a young age...
Mega:(

Exactly. With Les and Mel being the Co-Commissioners of Math. ;)

Why waste words :D
