So if there's a job opportunity that is both interesting and might help your career path, but the hours are 3am - 11:30am ... do you apply for it?

I don't, but you may want to. I'm too dam old for those kind of hours - back in my 20s I worked some 10 PM - 8 AM shifts. Do what you need to.

Yes, you always apply for it. And hopefully interview for it. The issue should be if you get it, do you take it? Definitely apply.

Re: Rep Lodge 125: The Thanksgiving Dinner Version: Gimme Some More...

What everyone else says. And look on the bright side - you can start your day off with a hockey game before work :D

Re: Rep Lodge 125: The Thanksgiving Dinner Version: Gimme Some More...

Mark, I'm going to leave here around 4 and start heading up... hopefully I don't sit in traffic the entire way. I'll get ahold of you when I get up that way and we can figure out a meeting spot. Hopefully its a good game tonight. See you there.

Re: Rep Lodge 125: The Thanksgiving Dinner Version: Gimme Some More...

Contemplating leaving work early....to avoid the traffic cluster**** that the weather will be causing in about 1 hour.

I agree with Scarlet. At least apply.

Let's say you enjoy working in manufacturing but get laid off. Do you search for another manufacturing job or is it time for a career change considering it seems most manufacturing jobs are outsourced these days?

Just because you enjoy working in manufacturing, doesn't mean you won't enjoy working in other areas. It doesn't hurt to try something else. If that doesn't work you can always look to go back in the direction of manufacturing in your N+1 job.

Yes. Also, you can consider looking for a manufacturing job in another field (like solar energy?) that might not be outsourced so much as check printers.

I'm sorry to hear that. :(

Good luck, whichever way you go.

Oh no! When did this happen??? That sucks!

Thanks. There's actually a medical supplier that I believe is hiring and has hired a few of my former coworkers...so I need to get in contact with them and pursue that. I'm also considering going to school full time for an MBA...but student loans don't sound appealing.

Tuesday. They timed it with the end of the month, so that they could cancel my benefits right then too. Not too terrible though. Technically this is my 2 weeks notice period so I'm getting paid 'til Dec 14th without working, and then I get 5 weeks severance beyond that.

As many of you know, I've been complaining about that place for ages, so I'm not all that upset about it. Hopefully I'll find a better job soon enough.

Big accomplishment, just sent off the project that I've been working on for months upon months to all of my customers. It was approved by all of my group's management this afternoon, and now the customers can begin using it on all of their development projects. Glad that is done! (even though I still have some administrative stuff to wrap up since it is a 6-sigma project)

Its alot nicer to leave on your own terms instead of their terms, so it sucks especially at this time of year. Sorry to hear it:(.. Medical is probably a good field to get into.

Never mind me, I'm just cleaning off my stool at the * hockey bar for later tonight.

Anyone know how to get out clown makeup and Big Mac sauce?

Hi Lodge.
Hi there.

Okay, even by your standards I'm a bit concerned.

I get hockey tonight followed by an outdoor game at 9:30 tomorrow morning at Michigan Stadium. Same two teams. And I've had a cold since Monday afternoon. This is going to end wonderfully.

Re: Rep Lodge 125: The Thanksgiving Dinner Version: Gimme Some More...

I'm mostly indifferent towards hockey right now. Can I still drink at the **** hockey bar? I'll work myslef into a lather and go off on hockey later if that helps. I was going to go to a high school game but as ****ty as traffic was I'm giving up on that plan. I'll be drinking if anyone wants to join me or pick me up. If you want me to drive somewhere, get to me shortly before I'm drunksky.

Re: Rep Lodge 125: The Thanksgiving Dinner Version: Gimme Some More...

Can I make a reservation at the **** hockey table?

Re: Rep Lodge 125: The Thanksgiving Dinner Version: Gimme Some More...

My wife and I enjoyed a glass or three of vino while decorating our eight foot Fraser Fir Christmas tree. The lights have been draped. The branches festooned with ornaments and a star paced atop the highest point of the tree. All the lights from last year still worked, which is always a pleasant surprise. We delivered a Christmas wreath to some good friends and will drop off two more at friends' homes on our way to a fundraising pasta dinner later this evening. Hope to catch some of the radio broadcast of the Denver-Duluth game throughout the evening's activities. Enjoy your night and the weekend. ;)

I still don't understand why that game is at 9:30 am. Maybe it's so I won't be tempted to go.
