Many authors have expounded how humanism can spring up alongside atheism. I recommend this for starters. (Everybody should read it anyway. It's a wonderful essay.) I suppose it's possible that you literally do not know that you are talking nonsense.

Humanism as a movement was grounded in the rediscovery of classical culture during the Renaissance -- a classical culture that predated Christianity by four centuries, had almost no contact with Mosaic culture, and was remarkable in being relatively free of supernatural superstitions, particularly in its fullest development. Western humanism is so far from being grounded in theism in general or Christianity in particular that indeed it grew up in large part in defiance of Christianity's brutality and pretensions to being the single path towards human fulfillment. I won't play your "yay team!" game and claim that humanism is grounded in atheism because I believe humanism can grow alongside any type of faith or none at all -- they are not relevant to each other -- but if I did I'd have more evidence on my side than do you.

Please stick to talking about religion. When you talk about atheism you embarrass yourself.

FWIW:
Legally, brain dead = dead. Most hospitals have "Brain Death Protocols" that are very specific. If the criteria for brain death is met, the patient is dead according to law ("not only merely dead, she's really most sincerely dead"). Upon being declared dead, (at least in my state) following the wishes of the family is no longer required. IOW, if the family demands the patient remain on life support, the physician can remove said support. (Mind you, this type of scenario is never that black and white but the law is). However, organs could not be harvested without family approval.

Happy Easter/Resurrection Day, if you're celebrating. For people like joe and I, it's about Christ and an empty tomb. And for you, it just might be an excuse to eat Cadbury eggs. Either way, have a good one!

THis was heartwarming. As I read the Pastor asked us to think of what it must be like to find out their debt was forgiven. I have taken care of people like that. They would have been beside themselves with joy and relief.
Then I think to myself~ What kind of warped world do we live in where people can be bankrupted from accessing medical care? That is really ef fed up and it makes me sad these people got care but left themselves worse off than when they started. This hasn't improved in decades

Having direct experience with this from the physician standpoint, I am happy to answer any questions. The article in question has little to do with the concept of brain death in humans.

This morning, I wanted my Mom (she died 8+ years ago), and was in tears a half-hour after I woke up.

When I walked into church this morning, it was like my church Mamas knew exactly what to do. Held me tight. Didn't say much. I left feeling a lot better.

There are good Christians out there. I just happened to find a whole bunch of them.
