Religion: Communion Toast Crunch

Saturday, I encountered an Evangelical phobe, and he was annoyed I wasn't threatened by hell.

Sunday, I walked into Grace Episcopal. My church family was excited to see me, shared their strength with me for the rough times, and two of my Adopted Moms ran out of their pews to give me a hug.

Beautiful. You deserve those experiences.

Thinking about the protestor I encountered at Newaygo Pride.

For him, it wasn't about having a friendly conversation. It wasn't about "the gospel at all times; if necessary, use words." For him, it was about being rejected and humiliated, and how he could go back to his congregation and cry about how no one was phased by any of his Bible verses or his presence at Pride.

Churches have sexual assault insurance. I do believe that just about wraps it up for Christianity. It had a good run.

I am starting a religion called "Saving Jesus." We will take Jesus and free him from all the supernatural patristic misogynistic garbage. Not just the Jefferson Bible but also taking away everything Peter, Paul, Augustine and the rest of those goons larded onto him. Not Unitarianism -- not some bureaucratic, limp-wristed, NYT do-gooder PhDs-with-money gentrification garden party. A down in the weeds, dirty, derpy, Steinbeckian Olde Tyme Religion with lust and booze and passion that would make an Irishman shudder and a Pentacostal blush. Fun for the Poors, dammit.

The masses need a messiah. Let's give them a human one. It's fine to have him be a hot line to The Deity, but let's get rid of 2000 years of Christian goop (2500 years of Middle Eastern nonsense). A humane, humanitarian, humanist religion for the derps to worship. It would keep them out of trouble, keep them from the clutches of the Right, and give them something to do with their time instead of lynchings and pickup truck draggings.

Tailgating with Jesus. Hell, let the South run it, they're great at that crap.

Small rant. I really hate that society has twisted religion up so very much that when anyone that I meet is overtly religious, I am very suspect of them and their motives. I grew up in a Christian religion, and the lessons I was taught are very much not the current interpretations of what I was taught- too much blaming and hating and not enough forgiving and loving.

And I will point out that some "Christians" on this board have contributed to that feeling.

Just over a week ago, a camping neighbor of ours told us that he was a man of prayer. And asked what he could pray for me about... I basically deflected my answer as I had no idea what his motivation was and I suspected his goals. Even if he was doing real good, I could not bring myself to trust that was the situation.

Yes, the one escape used to be more intelligent Catholics, but then the TradCath disease set in and it's the same crap except priests in dresses.

Christian philosophy aside, many religions, including christianity, are all about judgment, intimidation through exclusion, and control.

Like anything else created by human beings, a religion tends to bear the marks of when and where it was created. Unfortunately, the Abrahamic faiths came from tribal, rural, exclusionary cultures reacting against more cosmopolitan, progressive, advanced cultures. They are angry sideswipes at the modernities of their respective times by enclaves of backwards-looking "originalists" afraid of mixing with The Other.

To become more culturally evolutionarily successful, and survive until today, there's always a period in which they are moderated to expand and absorb their neighbors, but at the core is fear and anger, and they never lose it. That is why the more orthodox the faith, the more backwards, misogynist, and violent.

Its time to start over, and I pick Jesus because he's a very popular literary figure, like Dracula or Mary Poppins.

We here can create a Church of Jesus without Christianity. For the derps. Where a "man of prayer" would not automatically be assumed to be a far right wackjob and a pederast.

Let me guess, Joe, you lost interest in Church Militant?

Also, it's convenient when the Christofascists in town identify themselves so easily. Found a house today with a Christian flag above a Trump flag.

I think that’s the Satanic Temple, and they do good works all the time.
