Religion: Communion Toast Crunch

Francis, recently: "No ordination of women, not even as deacons! Priests must be celibate, even married deacons should not be ordained as priests!"

Francis, today: "No more gay priests - the seminaries are already full of f*****s."

OK, let the Church keep dying, I guess; suits me just fine. 3200+ parish priest vacancies in the US and counting.

There will be a serious institutional schism in Catholicism in our (well, your) lifetimes. Some European Catholics are continuing to evolve with the rest of humanity, while American TradCaths are stuck with their misogyny and growing rightwing derpism, and German* Trad and African Catholics are rushing towards an insanely reactionary jihadist Catholicism.

Remarkable that one of the oldest and most stable human institutions is ripping apart because conservatives are lifelong sexual adolescents.

* The Catholic church is the largest private employer in Germany, and the church absolutely rakes it in. It's an amazingly profitable racket on the order of a drug cartel, and an actual fight to control the goodies would be a 16th-century level epic of greed and duplicity. Popcorn, please.

One note: “adolescents” should read “predators.” There’s a reason their minds always go down that train of thought when thinking about gay and trans people.

While the vast majority of predators are conservatives, I meant "adolescent." The conservative sexual attitude is forever trapped in a guilty/ignorant childhood. Sex for the conservative is taboo. It is dirty and frightening. There is an authority at the top of the stairs passing judgement. It is adjacent to physical and psychological violence. So they respond with either a smirking juvenile titter or full on rape.

Queer affirming churches in the CRC must repent or leave after denomination decision. At least in the Grand Rapids area, several churches are planning to leave.

Calvinsts gonna Calvin. He was such a dick, who turned Geneva into his own little personal fiefdom, and his authoritarian streak propagated down to all of the little offshoot denominations he's a figurehead for. Glad to hear some congregations have had enough of the bigotry.

Watching a handful of bigoted Evangelical protestors get swarmed and drowned out at GR Pride Fest yesterday warmed up my heart.

Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin were all hate-pinched fanatics. Protestantism has always been fasc at heart.

The Catholics are pederasts and liars, but at least some of them knew how to have a good time.

Yesterday, I went to Newaygo Pride and decided to annoy a protestor.
Approached him and told him "for all of your talk about how LGBTQ is an abomination, you never miss a gay event."

Started with the trans flag in front of him.
Him: "you need to be across the street!"

He started talking about hell and how I didn't want to be there.
Me: I'm the assistant manager there.

He's trying to give me a tract at this point. Or trying to get me to go away. I can't tell.

Him: you're not a lady; you're just confused.
Me: And you're not a (redacted), even for 5 seconds.

I left feeling proud of myself. Feeling accomplished. Like I made my drag family proud. And realized he's never going to forget me.

The Episcopal Church rewrote their catechism to say "marriage is between two people" instead of "marriage is between a man and a woman".

Nobody opposed the measure.

It is nice to read some good news. Thank you.

Little by little we advance as a species, even as the knucks fall father behind. There are fewer cray with every generation. The hate becomes more concentrated in insular trad-wackjob communities. This one's still going to take a while, given the longstanding authoritarian terror, but even homophobia will eventually be buried, other than that 15% crud at the bottom of the gas tank that has not evolved since we came down from the trees.

Saturday, I encountered an Evangelical phobe, and he was annoyed I wasn't threatened by hell.

Sunday, I walked into Grace Episcopal. My church family was excited to see me, shared their strength with me for the rough times, and two of my Adopted Moms ran out of their pews to give me a hug.
