Quinnipiac Bobcats 2024-25 - Meet me in St. Louis!

No affiliation with Yale at all, but from what I understand, he hasn't been able to get the players he used to and I don't get the impression Yale has a particularly great AD, either. I do think he's still one of the better coaches in the league, but it can't be easy given the Ivy roadblocks and being a school not named Cornell or Harvard. There used to be a somewhat active Yale thread here but there hasn't been one for a while now
They got the former Colgate AD. Meaning they basically f*ck*d around and found out. She left for Yale and all of a sudden Colgate wins 10 conference championships between men’s basketball, men’s hockey (not done since the 20th century), and our women’s hockey team became a perennial contender in the ECAC. She hired the women’s hockey coach but she was kind of a jinx haha.

Another Cleary Cup and a chance at the NCAA Tournament.

So much for a rebuilding year.

We've all gotten so spoiled by the last five years that I think we forgot what it is supposed to look like. Between the ECAC's weakness and our dominance, we've made it look far too easy. This is an impressive regular-season title because of how hard it was. Congrats to the boys. Now let's go get four more wins for the Whitelaw.
Agree on all points. Really amazing this team was able to win the Cleary Cup. This may have been Rand's best year for coaching, although I think he would admit it was a struggle at times. QU Hockey Blog posted some amazing stats on X. It's crazy how this team ranked near the top at so many categories. Even the SLU announcing team was very complimentary during the game on Saturday. It was nice to hear that even though they are still homers most of the time.

That being said this team needs to beat the top teams in the conference to win the Whitelaw. Based on the results this season, that may be tough. OT seems to be a challenge. Hopefully they continue to grow and we can make another NCAA.

SLU's color guy should just buy a ticket the way he's oohing and aahing the entire game.

Our goaltending has also really improved in the 2nd half. Marinov has a sub-2 GAA and a .922 sv%, and Silverstein is even 2.22/.905. That's going to be a major part of whatever we do. We're going to need those guys in the playoffs.

They just need to develop that "killer" instinct in the next 10 days. To me that's been an issue all season.

Have no mercy, take no prisoners.

Marinov has improved greatly as the season went on. Was very happy to see that. Silverstein is going to be a good one.

Agreed. That has been a process for the freshman. Guys like Pelosi, Schwartz, Groenewold and Borgula really stepping up. Ricketts and Wilmer seem to have bought into the system, but we need Treloar, Cerbone and Marcellus to get hot.

Treloar, Marcellus and Cerbone are 2-3-4 in points (34, 33, 32) so I'd say they're hot (along with the others). My point was more about attitude and mindset. If they want the Whitelaw, it's theirs to win. Four wins and they're in. A single loss in the quarter's may put them below the cut line. Another loss in LP probably does. There wont be much, if any, help from the other leagues. Just win!

Leadership, solid D, great goaltending.

One shift, one period, one game at a time.

Thanks for those details. Didn't mean to imply they have not contributed. Just feels like those points have been more on the quiet side. Was hoping they would have had bigger years. And you nailed it with the killer instinct...that seems to be the one thing missing. Looking forward to seeing the team the rest of the way...really hoping we win the Whitelaw. That would be a huge feather in Rand's cap.

While up in Vermont skiing last week, I was able to attend the UVM-BC game on Saturday night. First time at Gutterson. Also got to see Dartmouth practice mid-week and attend RPI-Cornell on the way home. My poor wife gets dragged to all these college hockey games. Thanks to ESPN+ I am able to watch our games if not in the area.

Got almost no help last night from the teams we needed to lose. Right now, QU is sitting at #14 in the pairwise after dropping a spot with Penn State's win.

As for next week's opponent, it's either going to be Brown, St. Lawrence or Yale. Personally, I'd love to avoid Brown given our past playoff history with them.

Brown it is.

All the higher seeds won this weekend, setting up these ECAC Best-of-3 Quarterfinal matchups

#8 Brown at #1 Quinnipiac
#7 Harvard at #2 Clarkson
#6 Cornell at #3 Colgate
#5 Dartmouth at #4 Union

Bring it on!

I would think if we make it to the ECAC Final, we're probably in unless there are upsets in the other tournaments. Probably need to sweep Brown and win the semifinal. Hopefully that will get us to 12 or 13 and a bid.

We have 3 straight Game 7s ahead of us. The women's team lost in the quarterfinals and are the first team out of their tournament, so let's make sure the same fate doesn't happen to us.

Truly wild how snakebit the men's basketball team has always been in the postseason. Going on 20 years following these programs. Men's basketball has never won a conference tournament, and men's hockey only has one Whitelaw.

Hopefully men's hockey can live up to it and change that this year.
