Quinnipiac Bobcats 2024-25 - Meet me in St. Louis!

As long as Northeastern doesn’t win Hockey East or Arizona State/North Dakota/Colorado College win NCHC then Quinnipiac probably can get to the final and probably get an at large bid still. Denver can oust Colorado College today which would increase the chances to probably 91% or so. That would set up a matchup with Arizona State though the Sun Devils are 3-1 against Denver this year but I still wouldn’t want to play Denver in a one and done scenario with their pedigree. Maine playing Northeastern in the semifinals helps as Maine has played well all season and I would be pretty surprised if they pulled off a second straight upset. As long as favorites win Quinnipiac is in good shape.

Yep -- looking like the cutline will probably settle at 13 or 14. We're 12 right now and CHN says we're likely not to fall below 13 no matter what happens.

So, if QU loses and say, Cornell wins the ECAC, we would both be in the dance and the rest of the country would literally scream bloody murder.

It’s not a guarantee if they lose to Cornell they would be in. They would be out in the doomsday scenario of both Northeastern and Arizona State/North Dakota winning their conference. But if only one of the two wins and Cornell wins the ECAC they are the last team in.

Yep, that's generally what it looks like on the predictor. Generally we need to root against those three teams and we're in no matter what. If we win the Whitelaw we move all the way up to 9 or 10, it looks like. Losing at any point in the semis or finals has us 12 or 13 and taking up one of the final at-large bids barring upsets.

CHN says we're now 92% to make the tournament, so we're in very good shape.

That might jump to 94-95% if Maine beats Northeastern on Thursday.

If we lose in the semifinal, we would need North Dakota and Arizona State to not win the NCHC and Northeastern to not win HE.

If we beat Cornell, lose in the final and Maine beats Northeastern, I believe we would be safe no matter the NCHC result.

Obviously yes. I hope they win the Whitelaw and get the 9 or 10 seed. But if they don't -- and considering their history in this event -- I only think it's prudent to look at the other possibilities.
They should be focused on one thing and one thing only. Anything else is a distraction.

We can worry about all the different scenarios but they only need to worry about one.

Winning the Whitelaw will be tough based on the games against Cornell and Dartmouth/Clarkson this year. Add in our history in Lake Placid and this being a young team. That being said if we do win the Whitelaw, this may be Rand's best coaching year and should be ECAC coach of the year. Only goal is getting to the NCAA at this point so Go Bobcats!

I keep thinking back to what we watched in October and November. This team has grown so much this season, and the 2nd half -- with very little margin for error -- has been sensational. It is absolutely one of Rand's best coaching jobs.

Win over Penn St looming large. The team played well against Maine and UNH, but came up short 3 of 4. The stinkers were Dartmouth and Harvard early on. Win at Lynah was a surprise. 24 wins is amazing.

I had hoped/expected this team would grow as the season went on, but the play of MM lately has been a pleasant surprise. A lot to prove in LP so hopefully Rand has the team in survive and advance mode.

My perception about Lake Placid is that we have struggled lately because we have been playing against teams whose season ends with a loss, and we had already clinched a spot in the NCAA Tournament. This year, we are not guaranteed a spot so we should be playing with the same intensity and desperation as the other teams. I think that's going to help us.

If Marinov continues to play like he did this past weekend there's no telling how far we can go. For all the negative talk we've had about him, he hasn't lost in regulation since November and is getting hot at just the right time. The team plays well in front of him too.

The Penn State win is definitely looking tremendous right now in a lot of scenarios. There are still scenarios where Penn State gets in and we don't but lets hope it doesn't come to that.

One bullet dodged. Northeastern loses in the HEA semis. Now you need UND and ASU to lose tomorrow to guarantee a berth.

Maine defeats Northeastern in double-OT in the HE semifinals, which means Hockey East will not steal an autobid from the bottom of the pairwise. That helps us, but we are still at risk of missing out with a loss to Cornell and North Dakota/ASU sneaking in the backdoor.

CHN now has us 94% chance of getting into the Tournament.
