Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

Hey, we got a PP goal!

KP played well again but I agree, the offense has gone AWOL. I just don't see any chemistry out there. And they're snakebit when they get good look at the net.

Painful indeed...

To me, someone has to step up as the “Quarterback”. After Fortunato’s injury last year scoring dropped. Add the loss of Rafferty and there is nobody there, yet, to control and start the action. These guys can score, but they are not getting the puck in position to score. You run into hot goalies now and then, but they are making every goalie look like a Mike Richter candidate. 30+ SOGs should yield 3-4 goals a night, not 1 or maybe 2.

The D is getting better and KP is starting to look like the real deal. Hopefully the offense is the next step. If one of the FY’s or Sophomores can fill the QB roll well, the spring and next couple years could be a very exciting time to be in Hamden.

I'd think that's Dilly's job, but he looks "different" from last season... nowhere near as aggressive. Not sure if that's by design with all the youth, or is he playing a different game?

The D does seem to be getting better each game and Keith did all he could to keep us in both games this weekend. One goal each night from the offense isn't going to cut it.

I'm as optimistic as you... ;)

I would have thought so also, but he doesn’t seem to be rising to the occasion, or maybe it’s just too much for him at this point. I guess we’ll see. I’m sure that will be a focus of the break.

Question, your tempered review (which we all love and look forward to) suggests "they still look like they are an NCAA team while Quinnipiac has shown inconsistent play from week to week." Question, "they" is UMASS - or - are you saying Bobcats still look like an NCAA team but sometimes look like a USHL showcase team that is on the ice for the first time with teammates?

These are very good hockey players, whether we fans see it or not, but they have yet to play consistently as a team - making it each other better scorers or defenders consistently enough to sustain winning hockey over 2.5 periods as a team.

I smell sweep because UMASS is coming in to play last year's team from memory, knowing they have to bring their A game and Bobcats have a B game for now...I agree they will have to grind out a split to have shot for an 'at-large' but my bet would be they get swept and I hope this gets posted in their locker room.

Until they play like they have nothing to lose, they will continue playing tentatively. That's part of growing as a team.....take the shot!

Reasonable take. QU has good players but not yet a good team. Maybe it starts to come together this weekend, maybe over break, or maybe in October. One thing that we probably all agree on is, IT WILL COME. This team has both the possibility of being just OK, or being very dangerous in the spring. Especially if KP keeps playing well. Looking forward to the weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving fellow Bobcat fans!

Go Q!

Same to you Mark! This coming weekend will be instructive for the kids. They have to know they WILL get there, teams come together at a magical moment without notice and we know Rand knows how to pick and cull the team until they play team hockey....it is not if, it is when...I can wait whole season because I know he has a process that works and if we sacrifice a season to build a F4 appearance or even better, a win - I think we are all in for the long term.

I think I'm finally coming out of my food coma. Hopefully the boys are too.

I'm not sure what to expect tonight but I'll settle for a good, competitive effort with some consistency thrown in. Being the last weekend before the holiday break, these games can be huge for setting the tone for the 2nd half.

Go Q!

Hopefully the Ice is in good shape. Two women’s games this afternoon. The second starts at 4pm. Could be a bit choppy.

Forgot about that but it explains the 7:30 start. Guaranteed to be a bit cold in there tonight. ;)

Can't win if you can't score, and this team wouldn't hit water if it fell out of a boat right now. You can take it if they just got goaltended to death, but there weren't even a lot of chances created. Frankly, it was pretty boring to watch.

As for the officiating, that's not why they lost. It might be one of the worst calls in all of college hockey this year on the Fallstrom hit, but that's not why they lost.

One bright spot: KP is looking much better lately.

Mark, KP never was the problem this season- the young defense has been the problem aside from Karlis and Peter. Frankly, Peter has not been as effective as he was last year either but the is consistent with the offense, special teams....of course it is due to the loss of handful of very good hockey players.

I do not even think the teletubbies are as good this year! How's the food this year?!

Enjoy . . even if rand cannot say "its a rebuild year", that has to be what it is and I can live with this.

The team started well, but not being able to score definitely created some frustration which led to undisciplined play, and some really poor penalties. I’m a Huge OC fan, but I’d sit him tomorrow (if there’s enough F to play). Didn’t see the Fallstrum hit, hope he’s ok. THought there were a few questionable no calls as well.

Three good chances to score, the OC and Odeen breakaways and the chaos in front of the net on the PP at the end of the second. Perhaps if one goes in, we’ve got a different result. Another chance tomorrow.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 ~ 2020 Season

At this point, it is what it is...

They played respectable for the most part but the lack of quality scoring chances and the inability to finish did them in. UMass stepped up the physical play as the game wore on and we took the bait... retaliation never works.

The hit on Fallstrom was pretty bad. While it was clearly a high hit, it was difficult to see if it was a direct head shot. He obviously got his bell rung and hopefully is ok.

I had a very nice UMass father standing next to me and he felt the teams were more even than the score indicated. His last words after the game were that he thought tonight's game would likely be very chippy.
