Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

Oh, it is going to be a long weekend.....

OK, this may not make sense to some, but some teams need to lose before they win. These guys are not playing as a team out here yet. When you're not a team, you cannot begin to make a play out on the wing or in the crease with a subtle look, nod or other tick that let's your team mate know in an instant, going to make a move. None of this exists with this team yet and may not. This is a young team also, with an 'over the summer' ascension as upper classmen move on and Freshman get real ice time and responsibilities. The issue is they did not show me or anyone they were ready to play end to end brand of hockey last night.

Rand knows, you get real stinkers, and I am going to watch this club, see if they grow closer off and of course, on the ice. Will this team be better on the road than home? Maybe, since they are likely still young and not used to being coddled on campus like they are and frankly, should be! This program makes Quinnipiac Diplomas more valuable and recognizable. I recollect elder Quinnipiac College alum having to address the question, "Quinnipa - what?! Quinnipa - who?!"

Thanks to the hockey program and world renowned Quinnipiac Poll, these questions no longer are asked. Good job Marketing Department and Coach Rand Pecknold, who I do not know and have never met.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

This team has major issues.
FYP

Never saw that train wreck coming. Another night of sloppy play. There's no cohesion out on the ice. Not sure if they're just not playing the systems or if it's a talent problem. Seems like for everything they do right, they do three things wrong. Both Cornell and Colgate were beatable this weekend. Neither team played exceptionally well, but they did capitalize on their opportunities while we didn't. Our power play is nowhere to be found. Too many passes, not enough shots, and nobody parked in front.

While Point was good in net, he left some nice rebounds but we had nobody around to sweep up the trash. The majority of our shots he was able to see and track. With some 2nd and 3rd chances we could have gotten more rubber past him.

Just an ugly, ugly weekend getting swept at home... hopefully that's a wakeup call for them. This level of play is not going to get it done in league play. Makes next weekends trip to the capital district really interesting and important. Gotta figure out what's broken and get it fixed in a hurry.

I'd like to see Jermain off the Duane/Aldworth line

Tough weekend for Jermaine....stepped on teammate last night and gave up tonight’s break your back goal. Teams 3 man umbrella PP needs to adjust. Passing up top all night creates no shots or opportunities

Colgate will not beat this team twice...I believe this is good team but this weekend was awful. Towards the end was Best pressure when goalie pulled with 5 minutes on clock

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

This is the first time since the Feb '14 that Quinnipiac has lost back to back ECAC home games. Cornell & Colgate did it back then and now.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

I was at all the home games as well as the Sat game at Northeastern they held their own and got 2 wins and a tie up till this weekend. But I have to say I was not impressed this weekend. They were clearly outworked by Cornell and though they probably out skated Brown for the first 2 periods they could not get it together. Between bad passing, no one wanting to shoot and the giveaways leading to goals it was painful to watch. I sit with a group of people and they were ready to leave half way through the 3rd period on Saturday. Rand needs to do something to wake these guys up or we may find ourselves at the bottom of the ECAC come year end. Which is something I never thought could be a possibility.

I will say this. If the players do not buy into the coaching staff and what they are preaching it will be a long year. This team cannot coast by on talent alone because this is not a BU, Denver or North Dakota where a lot of nights they can show up and win on talent alone. Everyone needs to buy in for this team to have success.

I totally agree. But what I don't know is are the players buying into the system and doing what is expected? My wife who was not a big hockey person but is on her way to being one was asking if the players are doing what the coaching staff are asking and its not working why are the coaches not altering their plan to fit the team they have not the team they hope they have. I keep telling her they will get it sorted out I hope sooner rather than later.

I truly believe this to be the problem. It doesn't look like the guys have bought in fully. They will, it's just a matter of when.

I can't believe anyone on that roster was happy with anything from this weekend. This is where Priske and McKernan need to step up. They need to hold people accountable. When I think back to the 2 FF teams, the on-ice leadership was palpable. I thought this year's team would fit that mold as well. Perhaps they will in time. I'm sure the staff will be pushing them hard this week in practice. The captains need to push them harder.

It's still early... no need to panic.

Let’s not panic or give up on this team....beat NU 2x , Vermont and have BC tie them on 3rd period PP. I thought last 7 minutes vs Colgate with goalie pulled was good hockey for team Generated shots on net.
This game has lots to do with confidence. Do we miss Cashman? The last couple years something extra missing...D and wings struggled with aggressive forward forecheck all weekend. Forwards don’t drive middle but bail to outside in O zone. Cornell and Colgate came right down the middle all weekend. ..PP now 2 years of low productivity....Reid Cashman?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

Wyatt Bongiovanni and Peter Diliberatore both signed their NLI's today as well. Bongiovanni is definitely coming in next season. I have Diliberatore pegged for the 2019-2020 season

I have been thinking the same thing this past year. There is a good amount of defensive talent on this team, but they can't seems to put it together.

Last weekend was a big let down for sure. Hopefully that was the kick they needed to buy in and start playing like I think they are capable of. We will know more in a few days.
