Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

The team really impressed me today. The effort was definitely there and considering they haven't skated as a team with the coaches until yesterday, they seemed to skate well together. I saw no glaring problems. The upper classmen seemed to pick up where they left off. Most improved to me seemed to be Kevin Duane. It looks like he worked on his body strength over the summer... wasn't getting pushed around (or down). Seemed to battle hard along the boards.

Fortunato and Furgele were impressive. Both have speed and can handle the puck. Forchuk and Tufto were the freshmen that stood out. Jermain and Whelan looked like they did last March. MacMaster showed his speed and didn't play a selfish game. Rafferty and Cukste were solid on the back end as was Priske.

Petruzzelli is huge and looked comfortable between the pipes. Once he acclimates to the college game he will be a force in net. Shortridge seemed confident in the third.

All in all it was a good effort against an older and bigger Canadian opponent. They bounced back twice from a goal down and really took it to the Huskies in the 3rd to take the lead.

Lots of promise with almost no negatives that I could see. Friday at BC and the home tilt against BU next weekend will really show us what this team has.

It looks like it could be another very fun season of Bobcats hockey.

Pretty spot on Mark.
I was very impressed with Fortunato. He handled the puck well and always seemed to be in right place at the right time.
The whole team moved the puck well. Their passing game was great.
A very enjoyable game indeed.
The ride back to Long Island on the other hand.....Ugh. We just got home. Traffic was horrible :( .

Here's to the start of a great season!

Last night's exhibition team showed a lot of promise. I like what I saw from the young guys. Two big tests this weekend- hopefully the Bobcats can come out with at least a win. I think BC looked pretty decent this past weekend- lot of question marks over there.

Hope everyone had a good summer. With the temp down here in South Carolina still in the 70's-80's its hard to believe it's already hockey season!

Didn't get the chance to watch the game Sunday, so thank you for the thorough analysis Mark. I think our offense/PP will be the big question we need to sure up if we want to make a run in the playoffs/tourney. Really excited about Petruzzelli in net along with Shortbridge. Interested to see if another freshman steps up. Also interested to see someone older take their game to new heights this year. We've had the good fortune to have someone really step up and go from a 3/4th liner to a solid pro prospect almost every year since 2012. Aside from that, I think Landon Smith needs to really come through or we won't be able to compete for the trophies everyone on this thread has come to expect us to compete with.

Side note: It's pretty cool to see so many former Bobcats competing for NHL spots or being "the guy" on their AHL teams. I expect to have at least 3 or 4 Bobcats play at least a handful of NHL games this year with Peca probably getting the most amount of time (especially if Tampa has the injury bug like they did last year).

Hope my guys Larson and Schvatz are doing well. Miss you guys

Landon could have a big year... he's certainly due. And I think MacMaster will step up his game as well. The two I feel will have the biggest impact are Whelan and Jermain... they're are a couple of dynamos. It looks like we'll have 3 really strong lines and a fourth that will hold it's own.

Toews... I think he has the best shot to get in the big show and stay a while. Of course, Peca has already proven he can play and hopefully Sam can get a look as well.

Good work. Jake Horton is a forward, not a defenseman. The impact frosh are expected to be Reilly Walsh and Jack Badini (selected to play for World Jr team). I expect both to step into starting roles, though as you guys know, you always have to be wary of freshman and the time it takes to adjust to both the speed of college hockey as well as college in general.

Harvard should have a lethal PP, but will be more challenged to score 5v5 (Harvard has less forward depth this year than last) and should be more top heavy. It will be interesting to see how Donato juggles the lines (consolidate the high impact players or spread them out).

Thanks Bob! I was just logging in to come post the link.

Big opening weekend upcoming. I'm really curious to see what lineup Rand puts on the ice tomorrow night. Whoever it is will need to come out flying and play strong.
