Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

These 2 guys are actually enrolled and on campus now, and practicing with the team. Otherwise they would be ineligible for next season.

I know both are on campus. I should have added transfers and aged out players. Either way they are eligible next season.

Correct. I only pointed it out because that year of working with the team gives them an advantage over the incoming recruits. Not to mention they're older and (hopefully) more mature then the frosh.

Totally agree with that. Likely one of the big reasons Fortunato came this year, sat out and practiced with the team and get stronger in the weight room because he did have a season of juniors eligibility left.

Khristian Acosta is no longer committed to Quinnipiac. He is currently playing for the Sioux Falls Stampede.

Congrats to Derek Smith!

The 2016-17 Student-Athlete of the Year was awarded to Quinnipiac’s Derek Smith. Boasting a 3.94 grade point average, Smith is majoring in Finance at Quinnipiac’s school of business with a minor in computer information systems.

The senior co-captain has consistently performed at the highest level in each of his four years at Quinnipiac earning a place on the Dean’s List each semester and will be an inductee of the financial management association national honor society later this month. He is a three-time Quinnipiac male scholar-athlete award recipient working on such projects as event studies of merger bids in the technology industry and analysis of market and process response in the utility sector.

A leader in the locker room and one of the team’s most consistent defensemen, Smith has helped the Bobcats claim two Cleary Cups; the first Whitelaw Cup in program history as well as three NCAA tournament appearances and a visit to the frozen four in 2016. He is part of a senior class that has accumulated over 100 career wins.

His leadership extends off the ice as well serving a role model at such activities as elementary school visits and as clinic and camp instructor. He has also been a member of Quinnipiac’s student athlete advisory committee.

No shame in that game or this season. All in all it was a great year.

Congrats to the seniors.

Well, not the way we wanted it to end but Harvard has CLEARLY been the better team in the 3 games we played them in this year.

Thank you to the seniors, who were given the daunting task of leaving the program in a better place than the one they inherited after a trip to Pittsburgh. I think they succeeded. This program is more stable now then it was after the Pittsburgh trip, so a sincere thank you to those guys. An added thank you to the Clifton brothers for sticking around another year even after seeing the best offensive and defensive player on the team depart early.

Now we root for the ECAC in the NCAA tournament to further the success of the conference over the last 6 years...then we await the arrival of the most anticipated recruit in program history.

Go Bobcats

Well said.

Never had it? Ok, whatever. While the results weren't what anyone wanted, this team never quit.

Mark, don't feed the troll, look at his previous ten posts, all he does is bait people. Good luck to your seniors.

It was a good season but really a tale of 3 seasons. Strong start, poor middle stretch, played well down the stretch. While we missed out on the NCAA's we lost to the better team tonight. That Harvard team can win a national championship this year. I am excited for next years team as I really like the recruiting class coming to Hamden as there should be some key freshman making some impact.

We talk all the time about the growth in this program -- ten years ago, did anyone think we'd be upset with a non-NCAA Tournament season after four straight years in the tournament? I sure didn't think we'd see this day so soon.

This program is a national hockey power, and I'm proud to be a fan. Can't wait for next season -- despite a down season this year, the future remains bright.

Is it October yet?

October will be here right around the corner. I will be updating my Quinnipiac recruiting spreadsheet this week and will post the link here.

Or as Donato said in his presser, "To win the ECAC, you need to go through Quinny."
