Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Quinnipiac commit Keith Petruzzelli is the top ranked North American goaltender at the mid term point.

This is FANTASTIC news amidst a tough (vs recent memory) season. I think we've learned that having a very good goalie is a major factor in the success of the team. Gives me hope for better days ahead. Is there any worry he could go pro and no come next year? Having his brother committed certainly helps our case.

I can't see him going pro immediately after getting drafted. He needs to get stronger and coming to Quinnipiac will get him stronger and a much more mature player.

In no way is the current state of the team the fault of Truehl or Shortridge. They've been adequate but have been hung out to dry by poor play in front of them. That said, having a stud in net certainly can't hurt.

More likely a 2-yr or 3-yr and done... the price of becoming a successful program that can get higher-end talent.

Think Steve Valliquete comes back in. He certainly would understand what it’s like being a goalie at that height.

Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News, believes Petruzzelli is a second round pick at this point. I will take 2/3 years of a second round pick ANYDAY. Now to get some forwards of that caliber....

'98 forward John DeRoche (Lynnfield, MA) is no longer committed to Quinnipiac. Is currently playing for Topeka in the NAHL.

Ok, it's ASU, so I'm not taking too much from the game. One thing that has impressed me lately though is the attitude of Shortridge. That's his crease. He's not afraid to stick the glove or blocker in the face of an opponent that gets too close after a save. Also, when the team came to congratulate him after the game, he didn't look satisfied. Keep the chip on your shoulder kid, you're going to be a good one.

Good win tonight. Came out strong and stayed strong. Really good movement on the PP for a change with 3 PPG's to boot! Still some sloppy D play but much better than they've been. Shortridge was good when he needed to be but was never really tested. Levin for ASU has to be shell-shocked after facing 57 shots.

Lots of pushing and shoving all night so tomorrow might be a barn burner.

So what's the insight on this? Rand's decision or John's? If John's how big a loss is this? I know this kid committed way back when he was like 12/13.

No insight yet but my feeling is it could be a mutual decision. He hasn't really progressed to where we thought he would. Started the year in the USHL with Cedar Rapids. Was part of a major house cleaning there and was shipped to Topeka of the NAHL.

Good bunch of guys, love watching them but do not see them going too much further...how are they even still in the top 20?

They won't be come Monday. They have no chance at the NCAA's without winning the ECAC tournament title. Any at-large hopes were officially dashed tonight.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Jekyll and Hyde... not sure why that is but that's what they've become. Credit to ASU because they came to play tonight. With nothing to lose, and essentially playing with house money, they came out and took it to us. Our play was as sloppy as I've seen all season. Poor passes, bouncing pucks, bad turnovers, and too many glove-side shots. Lots of shots on net but... doesn't matter if they don't go in.

They essentially need to run the table to stay in the top 4, and that's not going to be an easy task with the way they've been playing. It's too bad because I still think the talent is there but they just haven't played up to their potential.

And while it would be really easy to look ahead to next Saturday, I think the more important game is Friday in Providence. They absolutely cannot look past Brown.
