Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015 Off-Season: "Thanks for the memories, Jack"

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015 Off-Season: "Thanks for the memories, Jack"

I would also like to say thank you to Jack McDonald. I was a senior when he came in and he made a positive impression on me as he attended the conference championship for a lower profile sport in which I participated. With all that he had going on, the fact that he took that time was appreciated. He was focused on raising Quinnipiac's athletic profile (along with the great student-athletes) and it has been a great sense of pride for many alumni and supporters.

I am going to miss the 4 guys leaving. Federico was a smart, steady minute eater for 3 full seasons. Good leadership and a overall great guy. Barron developed into one of my favorite unsung guys this year. Hustle, working hard - I thought he burned everything on every shift. Agosta got a lot of grief from fans that sat next to me but he was a decent offensive defensemen and a good addition. I got Peca way up the list in the top 5 of all time. Although he did not break all-time records, it was not always about goals & points with him. Face-offs, Kills, Defense, Leadership.... didn't shy away from the physical. Great, great all around player. I hope I get to see him on NHL Network or NBC Sports in the future.

In terms of the team next season - it will be interesting to see how the young guys develop. Defense is also going to be interesting. With 2 spots graduating, will freshmen take these spots or will a guy like Hilbrich finally seize the opportunity? Being listed at 6'6" 230, I assume his skating is what has kept him back. Sherbinin came in as a defensemen - does he slide back (I like him as a forward, so I hope not)?

I look forward to the new captains continuing to perpetuate the culture and work ethic to benefit the young guys.

I expect 2 to 3 defensemen coming in with Priskie, Shiplo and Fritz. I don't expect Hilbrich to contribute at all as he hasn't even played a game in the 3 years in Hamden. If anyone Rand rewards him for sticking it out for 4 years and plays him in a game against an Atlantic Hockey team if they are on the schedule. Otherwise don't expect him to contribute.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015 Off-Season: "Thanks for the memories, Jack"

Chris Heisenberg confirmed to me that Logan Coomes is no longer committed to Quinnipiac. No big loss as had trouble sticking in the BCHL and then the Premier division NJ Hitmen team in the USPHL before going to the Rochester Americans. He had trouble producing against higher level talent. They can find someone better.

Understood - but neither had Bui until his Sr. year - not saying they are the same, but it's not unheard of. Do you have any insight as to what is preventing Hilbirch from seeing ice time? He played in the Acadia scrimmage but can't say I focused on him too much as I was watching a lot of the other new guys.

Bui played in 11, 11 and 15 games before his senior year which he then played 33. You can't compare the two. Hilbrich hasn't played since Jr. Hockey in Canada. There is much more talent in front of Hilbrich.

Best guess... he's too slow to be a D-I defenseman. Otherwise, with his size, we would have seen him by now for sure. I have heard that he's great in practice playing his "roles", and is a genuinely nice kid.

Unusual for Rand to spill the beans this early. He'll generally talk about the upcoming schedule at the banquet.

Two Frozen Four teams on the schedule! That's awesome... but Bentley?... Holy Cross?... must win games in terms of PWR for sure. Not that there's anything we can do about it, but I'd really like to see the level of competition start to go up from where we are.

Playing 3 games against AHA is a waste. I don't mind scheduling at least 1 but that one better be the top tier of AHA.

On the other hand, he has talked about getting plenty of offers to travel west for games but without any reciprocation. Seems totally unfair that there's still teams that do this. Maybe that's why we get these AHA teams every season.

That's why I have major respect for St Cloud, Omaha and Ohio State as they both have returned the favor with home and home games.

I think it's unfair to blast the schedule when he's got St. Cloud St. and Boston University on the schedule. It's not like Rand can snap his fingers and get Minnesota into the Bank. Those AHA games are a direct reflection that not enough teams want to come to Hamden.

Quinnipiac is now a national power. Rand doesn't have to beg for teams to come to Hamden. If they're not willing to make the return trip, he's not willing to travel. I think that's very fair.

That's the point I was trying to make Seth. I realize he has to fill the schedule with what's available.

Right -- some people think it's easy to fill out a schedule, but it really isn't. I mean, the fact he's able to get BU, despite all their other non-conference obligations, is really impressive.

Hey! What about Maine? What are we chopped liver? Oh.......never mind. Don't answer that. I'm not really feeling the love here!

Don't worry, QU still has nightmares of Captain Kangaroo aka (Red)!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015 Off-Season: "Thanks for the memories, Jack"

WOW! A west team reciprocating, Bravo. That is exciting to see maybe we can get a couple games on a big network, fingers crossed. It would be really nice to see a bigger defenseman come in next year for some added size, Fritz that's at you! I was watching the game Friday with some UND alumni and that was one of the first things they said, " Man your team lacks size." Although the ECAC is generally a possession hockey and fast Conference it would be really nice to see some stout D in front of Garteig. Next year the expectations are going to be a lot higher and the ECAC teams will be gunning to knock Q down fast.

In all I was really happy with the season and really am hoping to see an even better season next year. Granted I will be watching every game from my laptop/TV, the pains of living 3000 Miles away now.

Oh no! So does this mean that we can expect the "Deli Man" for another visit? Gonna have to order another truckload of baked potatoes,......and some frozen lemons!

You have not truly lived until you have had frozen lemonade on the coldest day of the year - I stand by my decisions.

And who knows, maybe I'll treat you to a baked potato while I'm up there as a peace offering. Least I could do after failing to get one the last time I was up in Orono! :D

(That's assuming you are paying for the Dysart's before hand!) ;)

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015 Off-Season: "Thanks for the memories, Jack"

The Northeastern game is a single game next year but Chip Malafronte told me via twitter that the second game at Northeastern will be on a future schedule. My guess is it will be next year when they play BU they will also play Northeastern the same weekend.
